There are some notable tweaks in the gameplay that are worth mentioning, since many of the conventions found in Battlefield 2 have been changed. Take, for instance, medics. There is no dedicated medic class in Battlefield 2142. Instead, the standard assault class can unlock a medic kit, which can be used to heal you and friendly units. However, you won't be able to scatter multiple kits at the same time. Instead, you're given a single health kit that can be deployed onto the ground. It will not instantly heal a friendly, like Battlefield 2's kits can, but it will slowly heal all friendly units within a small radius. Meanwhile, defibrillators to revive fallen teammates are another unlock.
FINALLY No more "First Aid Here" lol.
What effect do you think this will have on teamplay? Will it reall work?
They sure are changing a lot of things to promote team work I hope it works.

ya ppl will figure out a way to make it really profitable but, as a medic, it will b a change from getting instant pnts just by throwing them down but eh its ok ill adjust, but one of my first unlocks will b the defrib w00t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

new medic teamwork :
wait for your friend to get killed so you can revive him instead of using a medic ''bag/unit thingy'' :P

@Okashii: there's nothing new to that, it's what they do NOW too :p
My idea for a good teambased game (and I know it is impossible to do), is program some sort of tactical AI into the server. That way, you would not get points just for reviving someone, but only if you did it at an adequate time, i.e. not someone in front of a tank.
Or capping a flag that is strategically important (that strategy being predefined by either the commander or playtesting by the dev's).
Or for example, getting more points for going out of your way and attacking a lone specops guy going for your satellite dish, rahter than killing random cannon fodder. Also, kills from behind a.k.a sneaky kills could be rewarded, BC you either surprised/outsmarted the enemy, flanked them, or were just plain lucky, in which case some extra points add to the fun;)
Maybe after a while, when this system has perfected, you don't get any points for kills at all, just like you don't score points in a ctf round. Only teamwork, tactical playing, and completing objectives/orders will earn you points.
Sigh ...the beauty of it ... and at the same time knowing it will never be realised.

People who came in from BF1942 and BFV, they didn't really realize the uberness of the medic. Some guys in my clan are "tuff vets" from the BF series. They get pissed at anything and everyone. One time I killed one guy, and he demanded that I give him my computer specs. So, I typed out my computer specs to the guy, and he challenged me to fight him again. It got repetative...because he didn't understand how he couldn't kill me though his computer was faster. BTW: He had a jackhammer, and I was PKMing.;)

so on the flip side if the enemy takes advantage of your health/supply pack do you lose points for aiding and abiding the enemy?
I'm just kidding, that would be hard core though. Putting a pack down, getting killed and then seeing your score go down ha ha now that would put and end to medic/supply pack whoring!
kiss my RICE
07-15-2006, 09:35 AM
Same, but you should call it assault ;). The gun rocks, you can self heal, and you've still got emp and the grenade launcher. I have a question though...can you still switch to the kit and automatically heal, or do you have to drop it, wait until it opens up, and then begin the healing?
Dangerdog
07-15-2006, 09:39 AM
You can probably hold it out but I bet it heals people a lot slower, putting the kit down gives away your position to the enemy in BF2, unless they changed that then I bet you can still hold it out.

The rest is a combination of commander and teamwork, though I have no idea how that works. In theory, I should have about 140,000 points..

This is fantastic, i tell you why. It stops an enemy from picking up one of your medi packs if you just dump a few at one of your bases.
ALSO it means that if you're a medic and you get killed by someone and got him to 1-2 bars of HP, he can't just dump a medi bag out from your kit and heal himself in 2 seconds. He has to sit there and heal himself, probably for as long as it takes you to respawn and own him.
Absolutely fantastic changes, i couldn't have done it better myself.

what I would also like to see is that you cannot revive players killed by headshot

So I was playing WoW at my friends house the other day, its was pretty great. The monthly fees nearly pay for the game...it's like a 3-D Diablo. There are seriously an infinite amount of quests to do...and the raids nearly scream awesome teamwork. Boy, this does sound pretty nerdy coming from me....I feel like I should excersise to get off this "nerd" feeling...ehhhh! This is not spam. I explained it before on some thread...look at any class/equpment selection menu pic, there is 5 item unlocks and you can see in videos,screens.... that grenade is one of them
This has been done to encourage team work, it'll sure make the first few weeks of gameplay interesting before everyone has the bare parts of their fav kit.
Its the kind of game where if you get killed by a tank at your base you can't just respawn as AT like you may do in BF2 because you've specailised in another kit for example, support and now you have to rely on a team mate to take him down, perhaps give him cover fire or something.
It could potentially work awful if nobody works together but if done well, makes a nice sense of teamwork. Also it adds to your individualism as a soldier on the Battlefield, In BF2 all you have is your name, in 2142 you're going to be able to say that you are what your specialised kit is, that is until you get enough points to unlock more.... or if you're one of those strange types that unlocks bits and bobs from all kits.
