Recently I purchased a new laptop (i know strike one) preloaded with vista. Now for the first three weeks or so i noticed great gameplay! but now it is...not so good. i am kinda ticked off. Im not some idiot who hasnt done his research... in fact i have done at least 5 hours of reasearch / tinkering with i and taking other peoples tips so far.

Heres the deal. I have gone to many sites that tell me the following:
Re-name bf2. (i did that)
make your video card setting proper (i did that)
turn down sound quality (i did that)
typing pb_sleep 500 ...(did it)
disk defrag/virus scans/spyware (did it)
etc. etc.

yet my frame rates have stayed at like 15.0/66.7 (not too sure what it means, yes im noob)

Then i came upon make bf2 a high priority application...but when i went to my bf2 folder to try and make a new txt batch it would only let me make a new folder. so i tried all that jazz to no avail. and thats my first thing. if someone could gimme step by steps on how to do that. I realize that over time the new Superfetch thing in vista is gonna slow down system.

Secondly...they say to do something with bf2 wanting to use certain ports with my router.... I am not that computer savvy yet:confused: ...just a kid trying to game. so please if you could walk me through step by step with that and if it's that necessary.

Lastly...I deleted like all my other games and this isnt helping. I have tried most things. If you have another suggestion for me to try... please shoot....im desperate. Anyways im off to try a little more... thanks for reading my sap story and please take the time to post a response if you have it.

Edit- Sorry forgot about those. My new laptop isnt great compared to old one (dad broke it)But here it is..

Manufacturer - Acer
Processor- AMD Turion (tm) 64 X2 Mobile 1.6 GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache
RAM- 1790mb ram (1.75 gb)
Hard Drive - 160 GB
Graphics- up to 528MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 6100 TurboCache
Audio- RealTek High Def Audio

Hope thats all you need. I realize it`s not very good but bf2 ran well b4 and i want it to run like that again hopefully or closer to that than what it is now. Thanks

Heat? Clogged air intake? Look at memory and hdd usage while the game is running to see if there are any unusual resource hogs.

No real fix here,

http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76649

but you aren't alone.

in fact i have done at least 5 hours of research

Here is some more,

http://www.google.ca/search?q=bf2+15.0%2F66.7&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Pretty sure somewhere in all those results is the fix.

Buy a clue already and stop spouting what you have read by others in the same boat.

yeah i understand its a resource hog.... but is there anyway with vista to make it a high priority app like on xp..cuz i cant do it the same way the tuts given for old xp...but i guess ill try again..but vista made smartfetch for a reason... so like i guess it might not let me do that...who knows..if it works ill let u guys know...if not i wont say anything

edit- okay so ugh also would it be possible for me to get direct x 9 instead of vistas direct x 10... i heard that is whats causing it MAYBE but no one said anything about downgrading... and also if you guys knwo by chance..acers come with little stickers onthe laptops and mine says the graphics card is "Up to 528mb NVIDIA GeForce Go 6100 TurboCache"....but im not sure what to do to get it "up to 528mb"...if you know that would be great...

i realized what a noob i am when i have to ask this....i cant relly find what drivers i need because they dont have the exact name of my drivers. i know im huge noob and ur gonna flame me on this and i deserve it but if u could help...would be sick...and also do i need nvidia forceware for vista... and if so 32 or 64 bit..if u need info togimme the answer... just ask.. thanks...

try a different graphics driver..some are better than others.

Check over at guru3d.com for a list of various official and beta releases..try a few for a while to see any differences.

Here is the latest that might work for your system:

Yeah drivers can help alot and also try turning your in game settings down a bit. Your gfx card doesn't seem too flash.

I ended up having to install XP Pro on a partition so that I could run BF2 as it was before :)
With Vista all I had was lag lag lag.

Don't see it as a downgrade mate :)
I only use XPPro for BF2, Vista for everything else ;)

you have to partition a drive, and when they are both in their when you reboot it gives you the option to choose either or.

Anyone noticed this guys playing on a 1.6 GHz processor? The minimum is 1.7 sumthing I think. Might THAT be a factor in the lag? I played with a 1.88 GHz and now my laptop has 2.2 GHz so it works fine.

AMD has slower clock speeds for the performance compared to Intel Pentiums. An AMD FX-60 is 2.6 GHz actual but runs at Pentium equivalent 5.4 GHz. That is not the factor. His Turion is probably equivalent to 2.6 GHz or so.
