I liked USI when it first came out because i was very sick of BF2 and i like the Desert Storm setting, the mod had a great deal of effort put into it and it was fun while people played it. Mostly on the basis of any mod being better then vanilla BF2 in my opinion (i betatested CE:Legends, the first total conversion mod released on the christmas following BF2's release).
However as soon as DCon came out i got hooked on that instead, mostly because of the gameplay changes and because it was made by DC fans like myself who understood where fun and skill was more important then realism and 'engine advances' like self guided weapons.
Thinking about it now, the biggest attraction about USI before DCon came out was that it was in a way like DC, if just in terms of setting. After DCon came out it made USI seem alot more like BF2 in terms of gameplay and i lost interest. I'd assume i'm not the only one since game-monitor.com shows 0 USI servers whereas DCon shows 105.
I just don't think there's enough mod players in the BF2 community for 2 Desert Storm mods, especially if one plays like the most popular BF1942 mod and the other plays like vanilla BF2 in Iraq.
There just doesn't seem like much hope for USI when DCon has a much bigger following and is still struggling for players itself.
Ideally IMO you would merge with DCon and contribute content like vehicles and maps to accelerate their releases and therefore keep at least one Desert Storm mod alive, whilst you'd leave the gameplay formula upto them.

MODs for BF2 in general are having a ruff time. OPK, USI, EOD, practically empty 24/7.
POE2 and PR have been out for quite a while, and have some good support. DCON is till working on some issues, but this release is kicking major butt, and the games have been consistently fun and bloody.
I am still waiting for Pirates, FH2, Brickfield, and Apocalypse. :salute:

Snazz, guess why theres noone playing USI. Right, the last release was a long time ago. DCon has more players because of its release date and because many people still think its made by the Desert Combat team.
You said USI plays like vBF2. That only goes for the 0.1 release. If you get your hands on 0.15, you will feel the difference. It hasn't got much vBF2 left, except houses and such. Wait and see, just dont post about things you dont know about :p

Yeah I guess you can say since we have spent a year developing and adding new things, coming up with new features, getting new items in a game that don't need manuals to use, and building up a community known as BlackSandStudio around many of those features, that hanging in the towel would be a great idea since you know... Dcon, PR, and POE2 just had a release.
awesome Idea.
While its been said a million times about the fact that USI and Dcon share a setting (OMG THEY COPIED) they don't share a gameplay. USI puts the effort into finding out facts about what we are developing. While it has taken well over a year for the second release, it's seen has much dedication from a team as you would expect to see from upcoming mods like FH2. That's why when you play .15 (along with .1) you'd see that a M1A1 is the proper tank for the setting and not a M1A2, because the M1A2 was not serving in Desert storm in 1991. You'll notice that if you decide to go off roading and go across the entire map that your vehicle isn't nearly dead from little bumps, you can see the details in cross hairs and bullet drop to weapons in the game to add more New then repeated gold from the past.
Time and energy has gone into every detail including decals, camo patterns, physics, models, researching our setting, and especially bug finding. We are not going to release what is essentially a complete .15 package until we are sure that it's up to our standards. What are our standards? They are high and so they should be, because this is our baby and this is how people will reflect on our work. It's not just about making a mod pretty and it's not about having a fan base, or having the most downloads. We've had that all in May of 2006. It's awesome to get that from this community, but In the end it's about how those who took the time to play. Did they had fun and if there going to tell someone about there experience with our mod. Word of mouth is better then a counter...

Quick question for you guys.....on your site it says in plain English that this mod is now a Gulf War II modification. I'm a bit confused....Gulf War II was the recent and ongoing conflict in Iraq, Gulf War I was the liberation of Kuwait. The Battle of 73 Eastings was a Gulf War I battle....so I'm confused as to which timeframe your mod is based on.

Its not that clear. In the US they say 1991 was Gulf War 1 and the actual thing is Gulf War 2, the rest of the world says that GWII was in 1991 and GWI was Iran vs. Iraq back from 1980 to 1988.
Short:
America:
GWI: 1991 (Coalition vs. Iraq), so-called persian gulf war (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_war)
GWII: Current conflicts
Rest of the world (at least europe, lol):
GWI: 1980 - 1988 (Iran vs. Iraq)
GWII: 1991 (Coalition vs. Iraq)
there is no GWIII

It's pretty cool to know our mod that was released a year ago yet it's still compared to current mods. For our mod to be released months before many of the bigger titles that have recently come out with there first and second versions.
Also USI isn't given the attention it should be. We need to rent billboards ... maybe a plane... and a spot on Late Night with Conan O'Brien

Well, tbh, the mod name is US Intervention, so shouldn't it follow the arguably flawed US POV and call it a Gulf War I modification? Or is this an exercise in revisionism? Trust me when I say this, you'll get more bites from former DC players by calling it a Gulf War I mod. Gulf War II is considered to be present day ops in Iraq. Present day doesn't equal Desert Combat.

Man, you really wish to butt heads don't you? What is your point? I stand by my statements 100%.
DC was in fact based loosely on GWI ('91). that's why it had maps like 73 Eastings...a real battle of GWI, Al Khafji Docks...real location battle of GWI. USI has 73 Eastings as well.
So again, what is your point Lobo?

My english is atrocius but I think my point is clear like pure water, you told the former DC players will complain because USI has the same theme as DC and I told DC has not the copyright over a real war, anyone, USI or whatever other mod can make the Gulf War if they want, DC did not invent the Gulf War

Your english is atrocious but I don't care....I read you lol.
I think yiu misunderstood what I was saying. I think USI would get more bites...meaning more interest in their mod if they called it a Gulf War I mod because of the content that is more closely associated with DC which is also a Gulf War I based mod. When DC fans see Gulf War II, they think present/near future battles which is what vanilla BF2 is.
So you misunderstood the term "bites". LOL...bites isn't bad. It's like when you go fishing out in a lake....the fish bite.
So I think more DC fans will bite on to USI if they change their marketing scheme to Gulf War I rather than II.

LMFAO!!!!!
Really Lobo, understand this....I love playing BF and all it's mods. I have logged so many hours playing FH it should be considered criminal lol. I just want to see as many mods succeed as possible....EXCEPT PR. (I'm just kidding):D
I think by changing the USI marketing scheme, they might be able to capitalize on a huge player base that doesn't seem to be playing anything right now. Alot of DC fans don't realize that USI is based on the Gulf War from '91. If they did, they might be more inclined to give it a go.

I dont really think players will think ,hey give that one a go its based on the 1991 war not the 2003 one.I would like to think they'll say hey it's got a **** load of vehicles, kick *** maps, some damn nice skins and and it plays grrreeeeat (insert tony the tiger voice).
