A new mod has been announced today that goes by the name Stepping Stones: Pacific Theatre (http://www.steppingstonesmod.com/). Here's a little bit about this mod as well as some media:

Stepping Stones: Pacific Theatre (SSPT) is a WWII squad-based shooter pitting the U.S. Army and Marines against the Japanese Royal Army during the brutal island hopping campaigns of the war in the Pacific. Our total conversion multi-player mod has a special emphasis on para-drops, jungle and aerial combat, and intense realism. Our unique gameplay perspective revolves around a three stage round, which plays out as follows:

Stage 1: This stage is home to exciting Aerial combat as the Americans scramble onto their cargo ship and fighter planes and head for the island objective. The Japanese, however, take this time to prepare defenses for the oncoming assault, and scramble their air forces as well. During the ensuing battle, the Americans must protect their cargo plane from Japanese air power until it reaches the designated insertion point, at which point the paratroopers are deployed and a vital supply crate is dropped.

Stage 2: Once the Americans are able to land on the island, a temporary command point is immediately established at the supply crate's position. The Americans must begin the arduous task of regrouping and attempting to assault the objective, encountering tooth-and-nail resistance by the Japanese every step of the way. This stage will be marked by intense jungle combat with support from each side's remaining air power.

Stage 3: If and when the Americans are able to close in on the objective, their final goal is to take control and possibly detonate a powerful explosive. At these close quarters with urban conditions, air power will become useless, superseded by the wits and skills of each sides' individual squads. If the Japanese are able to inflict enough damage upon the Allied war machine, the Americans will be forced to withdraw; Likewise, if the Americans take control of the final objective, the Japanese will be obliterated.

Our team has been working quietly along for the past year and a half, and is ready to finally go public with our progress. For this media release we have several weapon and vehicle renders to show, courtesy of our capable 3d artists.
