dunno that should work (for SF, AF and EF are part of the bf2 mod folder [unless you backed them up too])

i'm guessing you put them in the right places, other then that all i can suggest is cracking out the old magnifying glass and having a good ol' search

i had the same problem. here is my convo with EA:

Me:A while ago I bought and downloaded Battlefield 2: Special Forces off of I believe EA Link. It has worked perfectly fine from the time I bought it until just about a week ago when I tried to play it after I hadn't played in a while. I logged in, went to the online play server list, and tried to connect to a server. I click "Join Game" and immediately an error message pops up reading the following: "Your cd-key installed with the Battlefield 2: Special Forces expansion pack is not valid, to purchase a real copy of Battlefield 2: Special Forces, press the button below." Now, I find it stupid that it says that I don't have a valid cd-key, when I don't even have the disk... I bought it off of EA Link... Thanks for the help in advance. :)

EA:Hello,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts. I’m sorry for the difficulty that you are having with Battlefield 2: Special Forces.

If you are receiving one of these errors there will be an issue with the files pertaining to the Battlefield 2 game or the EA Downloader.

First you will want to uninstall Battlefield 2 and its expansions.

1. Uninstall Battlefield 2: Special Forces (if applicable), and the Battlefield 2 base game using the uninstall program, Add/Remove Programs, or manual uninstall for Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2 Special Forces (if applicable).

2. Install Battlefield 2.
3. Install Battlefield 2: Special Forces (if applicable).
4. Install the latest patch.

5. Install Battlefield 2: Euro Forces.

Once this is done try the game again.

If you used the EA Downloader at all to install Battlefield 2: Special Forces or Euro Forces you will need to clear the cache for the EA Downloader.

Note: clearing the EA Downloader cache will not affect any installed components that you have purchased. However, if you wish to install any of your purchased software in the future you must re-download it through the EA Downloader.

To clear your EA Downloader cache:

1. Right click on the EA Downloader icon in the system tray in the lower right hand corner of your screen
2. Select Exit.
3. Double-click on the My Documents folder.
4. Double-click on the Program Files folder.
5. Double-click on the Electronic Arts folder.
6. Double-click on the EA Downloader folder.
7. Double-click on the cache folder.
8. Right-click on the folder with your EA account name and select delete.
9. Install Battlefield 2.
10. Install Battlefield 2: Special Forces (if applicable).
11. Install the latest patch.
12. Start EA Downloader and download the Battlefield 2: Euro Force.
13. Install Battlefield 2: Euro Forces.

Once this is done try the game again.

Me:So, with the fact the I have to uninstall BF2:SF and that I downloaded it (meaning I don't have the disk) should I put its files on a CDR disk before uninstalling just as a backup? Or is it safe to just uninstall? And also, where it says "However, if you wish to install any of your purchased software in the future you must re-download it through the EA Downloader." does that mean that I have to purchase it again?

EA:Hello,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts. I’m sorry for the difficulty that you are having with Battlefield 2: Special Forces.

You do not have to purchase anything else again just to download (e.g. retrieve from the website) the game again. You merely have to download the EA Download Manager, login using the email address that you used to purchase the expansion and then download.

You can download the EA Download Manager (the EALink replacement) to be able to download and install the game from this link:

https://files.ea.com/downloads/eacore/ead-installer.exe

Just use the account name and password that you used before to download the game the first time.

Backing up stuff like a whole mod folder usually just doesn't work. Try to get hold of a special forces CD and just reinstall everything.
