View Full Version : Making awards more "in your face?"

I was thinking about how they added the new "pins" category into awards, and it made me realize that people work hard to get all their awards, but most of the time other people don't see that. Signatures in forums are the only place you can flash them around.
Does anyone have any ideas on how they could be a little more "in your face" during the game? Maybe listed on the dog tags? Maybe Ribbons and pins could be added as a small texture placed on the uniform, so they actualy appear in-game? I dunno, just a thought, and I'm curious if other people have any other ideas.

You get points from earning pins? Or do you just mean the points required to earn the pins?

Is there a difference between these so-called 'career points' and 'regular' points?

I'm-a-going-to-get all the easy awards to get MAJOR points. The parachute one is a good place to start. ;)

Regular points get you career points which actually rank you up same with awards...

That might increase draw calls or something technical like like.
Fear kinda has this, you can pick an in game logo and it and your name will be on your uniform.

I think Global points is the points for your present soldier, and the Career points is for all your soldiers Global points put together. I'm probably wrong though.

Pins on uniforms could not be done as every player on the server would have a different model skin and the memory requirements would be through the roof. Would not effect lag though as your just replacing an existing texture which all load at start of a map.

Having Career points and global points seperate is a good idea. I like being able to get points from badges, seeing as i try to get them all lol.

a)on the soldier the texture for a pin would consists of around 3 pixels, so it wouldn't cause any lag.
b)The time to send your info may increase by a couple of ms.
c) You've already said that.

No thx, I dont want a texture blur on my shoulder so, nah. Maybe a badge showing rank but seriously, no one would have time to notice what pins you have in whilst playing unless your not actually playing.

Point, rank on your helmet/arm would look good.

Not practical, remember the conversation on snipers? Not that it matters but thats still makes it unpractical, on your arm but not on your helmet, you never know when someones scoping you, and generally people dont go for the arm lawl.

Planetisde had your awards on both of your arms, and they had 2000+ people playing on a server. I don't think lag would be a problem....

They can be done -- and not very difficult at all. You just tell a certain texture that it has to be drawn at a certian location a bit closer to you in the z-buffer than the player skin. All of those rank textures are already loaded into the game (cmon, the rank hovers over your head) and drawing them over other textures isn't gioing to make anything stop to a crawl.

The Z-Buffer in BF2 is done in hardware not software so is not an issue, if it was just ranks like you stated it would not be a problem but I was replying to the post about having medals on each uniform.

Whenever an award of any kind is earned, they should stop the round for a half-hour presentation sequence, with everyone else on the server forced to sit in the audience and watch as you walk up to a stage to claim your prize. Then, players with VOIP can give an acceptance speech. News of the award should also be flashed up on every single server, right in the center of the player's screens.
Possibly.

I will say it again. Planetside had your awards on both of your soldiers arms, and it was not a problem. They had 3k+ people on a server....

That is a fantastic Idea, I would love to sit down.. But cant we make it a 5 hour presentation instead?
I think it would be a jolly good idea, like at sometime in WW2 I can remmember there was a cease fire for a day or two, where everybody stopped killing each other, and even in some cases started playing soccer!(Football for you poms)
Imagine shooting someone, then the round finishes, and you all gather in the Palace in Warlord and sit next to people on the other team.
Cheers :)

What I find that hard to believe. Allies played soccer with Axis? Did they use bullets instead of balls?

I am just saying that PS didn't have a problem with lag when people had badges on there arms and PS runs on an old engine and it is a dated game. So the argument that it would lag to much in BF2142 is not really true. Plus a lot of games have an option to put badges on your soldier's arm. Like Raven Shield, and many others. So it can be done!
And it is offense not affence ;)

Lol, I saw a video on it in History last year.. I was so surprised I was sure it was all ******** but then there was actual footage of them playing soccer, like actually sat down and played propper games, with referees and all.. But imagine if the crowd disagreed with the refs decision? lol
Cheers :)
