I have long thought that man portable ant aircraft weapons systems were the one thing lacking in BF2 and was thrilled when i heard a while back that BF2142 would include such a system. However I have not heard anything more about it since then and am worried that they may have scraped the idea. Does anyone here know anything about what happened to it. All responses welcome

The SRAW/Eryx isn't too adept at taking down jets...I'm all for a man-portable AA kit, but only with severely limited ammo (1 or 2 shots, not enough to take down a full health gunship) so that teamwork must be in place (Support re-filling ammo) to take down an aircraft with the AA weapon alone.

A real anti air gun is diffrent then a moveable missle.
Example, BF2 AT missle. Ya, you can move it but its really hard to hit a chopper unless its really close so if you have something heat seaking and that could lock onto the chopper it would be a lot better.

In other words, a wire-guided Anti-Tank missile doesn't match close to the Anti-Air capability of a high-speed, heat-seeking AA rocket launcher.

Exactly.

dont see why this is so hard. We have stingers in real life. And i know they can put them in the game. Heck, just take the IGLA and slap some futuristic skins on it, and make it portable.

Its not hard for them to get it ingame heck the USI mod has a stinger. The problem would be making it balanced.

Yeah there are no jets, and people have no problem taking down choppers in BF2 with transport guns and everythig else sooo.
The rapid fire AT gun probably works to but its not personnel issue

takeing down jets is hard ,, no jets in bf2142 so np, im sure the gun will be more advanced the an erix so it will be easier to take a choper down

The aircraft thats in BF2142 is a chopper/jet hybrid. Kinda like the F-35b I guess, I don't know because I don't have the beta.

ya i know but just looks more like a chooper and also its faster to say choper the chopper/jet hybrid and i was lazy at the moment

Yea, I think it's an unlock for the engi as well, just not in-game quite yet

It's not technically an AA gun, but if you fire a Koenig H-AVR shot at a chopper, it'd take it down. And it's a fast shot so it'd be easy to hit.

The Mitchell AV-18 Anti-Vehicle weapon is able to perforate even the most resilient cladding and cause extensive damage. This modern-day Anti-Vehicle weapon was developed in direct response to mid-century advances in vehicle armor design. Made from polyminium, a new titanium-based amalgam, the Mitchell AV-18 body is ultralight, allowing a greater portion of its travel weight to be dedicated to ammunition. Replacing standard HEAT (high explosive anti-tank) rockets with heavier, more formidable, superplastic, multi-warhead explosives, the Mitchell AV-18 is able to perforate even the most resilient cladding and cause extensive damage.
needs some work done.

BF 2 really need an anti-air class to balance the helos and jets.

the tanks and mechs will be able to take them down as well as some infintry there would be no point in making a new class for AA plus not alot of ppl will use it

So the AA gun isnt in the beta then?

The hybrids arent nearly as faster as a jet, and most people will be stationary when they use them or have a limited move space (just sweeping in and out) so it wont be a miracle if you hit one with the AT weapons.

I dunno I think it should be kept the same.....hybrids dont look like they will as untouchable as jets.

the AA gun isn't in the beta last I checked..but I haven't looked hard at the engineer unlocks since in titan mode Assault and Support are the most effective classes on the titan.
I tell you one thing Recon soldiers are starting to unlock DEmopaks and I see a lot of them planting it on their own titan and waiting for enemies to come through then bam. they do this repeatedly..there isn't a shortage of support soldiers to resupply them either. So instead of grenade spaming we get demo pak spaming..the ceilings in the titan are too low to throw grenades effectively.

At the bottom, Mitchell SAAW 86, the info on it is incorrect. It's the handheld AA.

Yes there is, the choppers are jets to so instead of just hovering you can fly forward to.

While I am not in the beta from all the videos released so far the aircraft seem to be slower than the jets in BF2 though they seem faster than the helo's in BF2.
If the "Mitchell SAAW 86" is faster than the TOW in BF2 or is more a fire and forget style weapon then it should do nicely against both ground and air vehicles.
If I recall correctly the aircraft in BF2142 are supposed to be thinner skinned than the aircraft in BF2 so we may not even need it to keep those pesky mosquitos away.

False, its a quad missile launcher against armor

They are helis and jets mixed, a "hybrid" as EA said. So that mean that can fly fast and straight so you still need some kind of heat seaking AA missle.

I said the info was incorrect. If you look closely you will see I've linked to the "unlocks" page. http://battlefield2142.ea.com/battlefield/bf2142/eu_engineer.aspx on the top, Mitchell AV-18, that's the "quad missile launcher".

Thats ok. When I said "Yes there is, the choppers are jets to so instead of just hovering you can fly forward to." I was just telling Rodger Smith that there there sortof is a jet.

Not needed that much and them ounted AA does have heat seeking EMP dont it?
Jets and choppers alike in BF2 USUALLY slow down while in kill mode, making them easy to kill... I ve killedp lenty of jet pilots on wake when they do this (they throttle like mad men)
Besides, its hell enough for jets in bf2, now you want everyoen walking around with the explsosive power of a an engineer, with the capabilites of an AT and AA... wtf?
Maybe like an AA you can deploy, it;ll be like the dual rapid fire guns with the red blast shown in vidoes except only one gun.

Yer I get what your saying...but I think the portable AA is a LOT weaker than mounted AA, say about 1/2 the damage from 1 rocket than 1 rocket from a mounted position? Mabye less.
All depends on how much amour the hybrids have. To begin with...I don't think they will be as fragile as choppers from bf2.

the Helojets aren't much of a threat..I really wish Jets were back..it feels like there is hardly anything in the air in 2142..atleast in titan mode anyway.
