You can now reserve your player name for BF2142.

It doesn't have to be the same as your BF2 nick.

Please note that the immediate promotion is compatible with any retail program that grants you an immediate promotion, and you will be promoted twice. However, claiming your Veteran status after you have already ranked up through normal gameplay will have no effect on your ranking, though the other rewards can still be claimed.

Everyone who pre-ordered will get that rank-up also.

Works fine for me, I just signed up and it said that my veteran status is confirmed and the first time that I login to BF2142 I will get a conformation of my veteran status. Thanks for the heads up.

Well it's probably fine though. I did it and it worked. So I'm no longer ptegan1984 in BF2 but ptegan in BF2142 :)

It only accepts numbers and characters but as I said this may change, so if it upsets you because your BF2 nick that you want to also use in BF2142 is %%%Lam3r1!!% then just wait a while :)

Anyway I have a problem EA seem to have screwed up yet again. :mad:

My BF2 name uses a ~ as a divider and this is now an 'invalid character' for BF2142, or so it seems. I know I could change the name I'm reserving to something different but that kind of defeats the purpose. The link that they provide to the EA Customer Support home page isn't particularly helpful either. What the hell am I supposed to do and is anyone else having problems with 'invalid characters'?

EDIT: While I was typing that ptegan already answered my question. Guess I'll just have to wait.

All you need to have is a EA account and a valid BF2 account. You can only use the EA account once though so unless you have multiple EA accounts you won't be able to reserve another name.

Remember, there is an option in BF2142 to add clan tags, just like in BF2, so no need to add them to your BF2142 nick you want to reserve.

I was able to get Dr_Doom without my clan tag which is nice. Before I was =HPSF=Dr_Doom

Remember people, if the name is currently used in BF2 by someone else you STILL CAN'T get it regardless of how fast you are. This is a way of seperating "Gamespy IDs" 99% of which have nothing to do with BF2 players from "BF2" nicks which should be protected.

Dr_Doom was taken as a Gamespy ID from someone who didn't play BF2 which is why I couldn't originally get it, but it isn't a BF2 name hence why I got it now.

This is the best thing EA/Dice could have done, they just opened up thousands of great names, while protecting BF2 names.

I can understand why some get upset over newbs like me, who just started playing BF2, being able to reserve names and get chances for a beta key. Honestly I finally bought a PC that could even play BF2 and should be fine with BF2142 or I would have been playing BF2 sooner.:evil:

Still I spent my $50 on BF2 like everyone else in addition to paying the $2,200 for a pc to play it. Hopefully DICE will find some way to recognize those who have done more than just paid for and played the game.

The high rank idea is retarded IMO. I dont have all the time in the world to play bf2 but i have owned it since it was released. Just because I dont have a high rank shouldnt count me out of being a vet. I am glad they didnt do this.

I'm not sure, technically it should be available to anyone even after release; all the Program signifies is that you own BF2. I really dont see why they would close it...especially when EA can make more money by keeping it open.

Yeah there is this little form, which you need to fill in. You have to give your EA account name + password, BF 2 account name + password, and the name you want in BF2142 :)

i just created another EA account, and made up another Battlefield 2 account.

I logged into the BF2 DEMO and i have now registerd "That guy again" as a 2142 name. Thing is didnt play a single game, all i did was go on BFHQ on the demo client.

From what I understood that should not matter.

You can only reserve one name per EA account plus BF2 account.

Its possible someone already reserved it or there could be problems with the database the form is referencing.

Honestly, while I am glad I was able to reserve mine I won't trust it until I get some sort of real confirmation like an email.

Edit: Oh well, I guess this form can be spoofed pretty easily.

Well my name somebody took adn I had to use numbers instead of letters in order to get ReaperOfsouls, it was only one actually.

But none the less why only 14 charaters for the name? BF2 is like 27. My BF2 name was [EVO]ReaperOfsouls. I could care less not cause I left the game, I guess becasue of the prefix they figured people do not need put tags on which I am sorry I did with BF2.

So it's looks like I'll be DrFruitloop in BF2142, or my secondary name of "Duuk-Tsarith"

Yeah, the same thing happened to me. It's because there's already a Gamespy ID using your name. As you can now use spaces, try using a space before or after your new name, that worked for me.

Nice to know that there's a brand new game coming out and you STILL can't get your name of choice as someone with a Gamespy ID already has it. Frigging stupid if you ask me.

Think about {TA}Firestorm or {TA} Firestorm lots of stolen names will be coming, you might even be able to space the first character and take someones name 100%

That would be stupid and defeat the purpose of reserving names. Anyone could steal anyone elses name provided that they reserve it first.

Also to everyone else moaning about not being able to get your desired name. IF IT WASN'T YOUR NAME IN BF2 THEN CHANCES ARE THAT SOMEONE ELSE HAS ALREADY USED IT IN BF2. THEREFORE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RESERVE IT.

To put it another way. You can only reserve a name that you know the password attached to the BF2 account, or any name that hasn't been used by anyone in BF2.

EDIT: On another note once the game launches every single name that hasn't been reserved will be opened up to be able to use. It you desperately want a name that is already in use in BF2 wait for the launch or BF2142 and make sure your quick enough to get it before someone else does. ;) You won't get the whole veteran status thing but I get the impression that it isn't going to mean much anyway with the number of people able to reserve names.

You do not get an email.

When you log in with the EA account information you put in those feilds, (that being your EA account and 2142 name you made) you will get a confrimation message when you first log in.

As far as if this happens when you get the demo or when the retail version come out I do not know.

I would say maybe when the demo comes out that you confirm it but you cannot unlock anything until you get the retail version.
