Remember when the BF2 demo first came out? I was on the BF2 boards when someone posted that it was out. Hurrah! I started the download then came back to the boards to chat about it. Luckily enough I started downloading it JUST after it was released so I got a really good download speed.

Anyway, there was a ton of people on the boards chatting about it so I added my input to various threads. The download was getting closer and closer to being finished and I was getting more and more excited. It soon got to 98% or 99% so I came back to post that mine was nearly done.

This is where is gets funny (well, not for me).

I started typing in a thread and pressed enter to start a new paragraph. However, just before I pressed enter the download finished and the "copying" dialog appeared (remember, using IE downloads are put in a temp location then copied over when the download is complete). So, the copying box popped up and stole focus. I didn't notice and pressed enter to start a new paragraph but instead pressed enter on the "copying" dialog. And what's the default (and only) button on the "copying" dialog? Yep, you guessed it - "Cancel".

Yes, my download was cancelled - I hunted in vain on my PC for the temp file but it has gone. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! I tried to restart the download but it failed as the servers were so busy. I went from being a smug git who was going to be one of the first to play to a miserable sod who had to come back to the boards and read everything people were posting about it with tremendous jealousy.

And what have I learnt? USE A DOWNLOAD MANAGER :-)

Does Mozzila allow you to continue downloads from FP ? (FP doesn't work with all managers)

We should use a download manager because of YOUR mistake, yeah ok. sorry but your teaching people how to suck eggs.

Most people know how to manage thier temp internet files folder size.

Probally not but if he was using Mozzile when he was downloading the BF2 Demo he wouldn't have cancelled it lol.

I'm going to use the FP download manager for the 2142 BETA (When I get my damn key!!) and see if its any better.

For me it was the Bf42 demo, got to 98% then accidently canceled it.

How bizarre. I post a story which I thought some might find funnny, plus it offers a bit of advice and someone flames me for it.

And that has got nothing to do with my post. You even read it?

Vundu, perhaps you should head back to the Planetbattlefield or official EA boards - they're more your kind of thing.

If your temp folder was big enough your download would of been safe in there so would not of mattered if you cancelled while it was copying across.

Is this not relevant?

Sorry the way you wrote your post sounded like you was telling us what to do due to a mistake by yourself, must of took it the wrong way.

Oh ok then. Didn't mean to sound like I was trying to tell people what to do, I was just offering a bit of advice plus a funny (well, I thought it was) story. No probs fella.

I used the FP download manager to get the beta, because I wanted to download it in 2 parts. Worked perfectly. :D

It doesn't but the downloads get temp stored in the Mozila download manager (unless you have settings on for when downloaded delete, in which case you are a fool.)

I use the FP download manager all the time. Mainly because it's fast, reliable and doesn't contain Spyware.
