As many of u kno, BF1942 and BFV were basically the same game just set in different time periods. After BFV, DICE went on to develop a new type of engine for a new Battlefield series game. Hence came, BF2 and now BF2142. So, with this past history in mind, do u think after the release of BF2142 (including expansion packs and booster packs) that DICE will give up on the engine and try this successful pattern of development over again? Maybe creating another new engine for BF3, or whatever they plan to do. Or will they stick with what they have.

Well Yes, it's been planned for a third engine all along. BF2 = 2nd Engine, BF3 = 3rd Engine.

They are probably already working on a new engine for DX10. Also i hope they make expansion packs that are well made and not crappy rip off booster packs.

I should imagine so, but i have no idea in which time period the game would be based. I mean whats left now?

Personally I would like to see an MMOFPS style game, starting in WWII then expanding to new eras in expansion packs.
WWII --> Vietnam --> Modern --> Future
Ie: basically re-do all of the games they have done before, bigger, better and more grand. Epic battles on huge servers with great graphics. If people want to just stick with the WWII mode, then fine, but if you want to "carry through" you can do it with experience that you gained from the previous wars.

I would like them to go back to WWII with a new engine myself, not to keen on futuristic FPS.
The only thing saving 2142 is that they have stook to bulletts and not lasers.

That just goes to show that you can make good futurustic shooters as long as you're not a trekkie ;)
I also like the bullets more, since I really cannot image people killing each other with focused beams of light. "HAH! EAT THIS!! Now you've going to go blind in 20 years!" ..lame
I also think that you can only use an engine twice MAX within once franchise. It would kind of suck if UT2007 would still be running on the UT99 engine, if you know what I mean. Btw, I'm assuming everyone has read the post on the official bf2 site confirming the development of a new battlefield for xbox 360? Because of the similar nature of the 360 and high-end pc's, the new engine would probably also run on PC systems.

Me too, they're not exactly practical... I loved how battlestar galactica new series was and might still be the only space game that use kinetic weapons and missiles and other non laser stuff.... AND IT HAS NO SHIELD wtf?!
Bad Company is being developed for PC,PS3,PSP (Or maybe another BF game but its for PSP) and X360
I can't wait to see a BF3 game with a new engine, hopefully with graphics to rival Crysis. (In 1-3 years, graphics like that will be the norm)

I half expect them to license an engine from someone else, maybe even the crytek one.

Most other engines are not designed for outside 64 player multiplayer combat, lots of engines on the market today would fail at this.
Bad Company is using an inbuilt engine at DICE. Looks hot.
