The First Strike (http://www.firststrikemod.com) mod website has been updated recently with one new fantastic render of the AT-AT, as well as a little information of what they are up to. Take a look:

Greetings FirstStrike Fans!
Work as usual at First Strike is gathering pace once more! Below are the latest visual from our Team all taken from our upcoming Hoth Map...lots more in progress too including a full size Echo Base, equipped with the usual Bacta Tanks, Droids, rigs, pulleys you name it we will hope to have it in there oh and a few Ships too!

So whats been happening lately at FS ?
-The Team has got bigger! The Galatic Conquest Mod Team has joined FS!
-New EXCITING Gamemodes planned for FS!
-Old and New Maps in production and pre-production!
-Gearing up for a BETA release!

The game isnt out, the demo, the real beta ? How the hell are you using the engine to make mods? Am I missing something

on the EA forums it was asked, posted here so maybe someone will read it.

Hi folks,

We at First Strike would like a little insight of how the community thinks we should set up our game modes.

For example, if we'd wish to encourage teamplay, but if you , the players, don't want that, it's not of much use.

Please answer the following questions to help us to determine what you want.

1. Why do you as a gamer choose the bf series over other games?
Player movement (not stiff like a robot and not too twitchy like a UT or Quake game) fun arcade experience with realistic "looking" items but not taking things so serious as to make it "one shot kill" type of game. The squad system and mostly the way even if you're infantry you still have a chance of killing a vehicle (doing goofy things like jihad jeeping). The do anything at any time aproch to sandbox type gameplay.


2. Define what team work means to you.
Everyone on the team having an opportunity to make a difference in the outcome of the match, regardless if you like to lone wolf or work in a squad, be solo in a tank or work together in an attack chopper.


3. Describe your ideal gamemode.
Defend and Destroy, essentially what Titan mode is about except making capture points worth defending more, either by giving special upgrades for holding onto capture points or just giving special spawn items like vehicles for holding onto them that appear back at your main base maybe or around the held cap point.

I generally like the idea of conquest but feel it doesn't offer enough in the way of a reward system for holding onto it tooth an nail, because a mod like First Strike has no way of allowing unlocks to be rewarded I would go after in game reward system that only last that round, upgrades to weapons or vehicles for example.

Don't try to add a bunch of game modes that people will fragment into small groups but not one become large enough to support, may mods suffer from this form of trying to be everything to everyone, the one for UT2004 suffered this same problem, people asked for CTF and nobody ever played it, they all wanted capture the objective maps.

I also noted a poll on your website asking favorite map scenario? everyone want's space battles huh? well don't even go there unless the BF engine can provide the same level of gameplay as an X-Wing game or Tie-Fighter, personally I don't see this as being a match for a BF game, it should be ground based with infantry the main driving force and fun vehicles, it's your mod though - do what you want.

Danderdog:
1) There is more than one gamemode.
2) There will be Space Maps and I think you will be more than pleasently surprised what we have in store. Comperable to XWing or TIE Fighter.
3) There are LOTS of land based Maps. Infantry only Maps and specialist "Encounter" style maps. Think Objective mode with a difference ;)
4) and of course our TITAN mode will be a lot more "Epic"

I hope that clears that situation up. We have placed very high limits on what we expect to achieve for you guys as well as us we want to immerse the player in the Star Wars era. Each Map will have its unique points and each Map will contain Objectives.

Just watch this space! At the end of the day we want to play it too so it HAS to be good.
