Nvidia has dropped Quad SLI in our laps.. its pretty much for high resolution game play and displays...those that think SLI is the answer to all just be advised that the bench results of Quad SLI wasn't that great and the power consumption needed for all 3 cards (8800 GTX's) to run was as much as if you kept your Microwave on constant.

Typically, it is found that a single new-generation card (8800 for example) beats out an SLI configuration with the next card down (8600 in this example). This is especially true now since the 8800 cards are such a huge jump from the 8600.

A decent 8600 card will run you about $140 so two would be $280. Since the 8800 GT 512MB can be acquired now for about $250-$260, it just isn't worth it to try to squeeze more performance out of the older generation card.

I find that, in general, SLI is only worth it if you need to squeeze as much graphical power as possible out of the newest generation cards or if you have an older, single graphics card in an SLI-Ready computer and you want a cheap alternative to spending big bucks on the latest, greatest video card.
