Man, get an GeForce 8800 GT/GTX/new GTS/Ultra, but NOT an ATI!

The 3870 isn't as impressive as the 8800 512GTS or GT or the GTX.
It is a good card, but cannot be compared.

It's sad to say but yes ATI just can't compete with Nvidias high end. They may be sweeping mid-low range but if your looking for high end performance you can't pass up Nvidia. I'd say it'll run it medium just fine. Search google for benchmarks on it. Theres lots out there. Best advice. DO YOUR RESEARCH.

ATi wins out on AA, but nVidia is the overall performace winner:

Yea but 8-10 fps with AA isnt playable anyways. Are those on very high?

All high, set at 8AA. I'd still say its impressive, considering the drivers are brand spanking new, compared to nVidia's drivers which have been under work for quite a bit of time (DX10 support drivers that is).
Don't make me cry, 10 FPS is playable, thats how I played 2142.

Lol thanks guys and theres nothing i can do about getting a ATI its already arrived and all wrapped up for xmas..but medium will still be good looking?
Oh and when i get enough money i might go crossfire..since it performs better than 1 ultra at like cheap as chips...i know crysis isnt very good with sli/crossfire but hopeully when i get enough money it should all be sorted out

Just make sure you get two of the same card, when going for XFire, even though XFire supports two different card models, it will make the "better card" run at the same rate as the older one, so..
3870 + 1950 per say, your 3870 will run as a 1950, therefore losing full potential.
