The BattleGroup-Frontlines (http://www.bgfmod.com/) mod team is back today with their latest media offering. Take a look:
We continue to work on developing BGF and will be releasing version 1.1 very soon. This will include some changes as a result of feedback from our fans, plus some new content. The changes include the option to crawl under fences instead of having to go around them, plus we have improved the handling of tanks, particularly when turning. The new content includes vehicle resupply versions of the Opel Blitz and ZIS-5 trucks, plus the addition of the Soviet BM-13 "Katyusha" Rocket Launcher. Meanwhile, longer term development continues so that our next releases will cover the second half of the war on the Eastern Front (with late war tanks such as the Panther, Tiger and T-34-85) and will also feature fighting on winter maps.
Now for some background on the BM-13. The BM-13 was a rocket launcher mounted on a heavy truck that fired volleys of up to 48 rockets nearly four miles. During the Great Patriotic War the BM-8 and BM-13 rocket launchers got their famous name "Katyusha". In March 1941 the first successful firing tests of BM-13 rocket launchers were carried out and on 21 June a mass production order was signed. Originally the system was based on the standard ZIS-5 truck but this combination wasn`t successful and so the ZIS-6 was chosen instead. The BM-13 could fire 16 130mm rockets simultaneously.
