This is my personal opinion, it will definitely be different from yours, so please no personal attack comments, just a general discussion. Also my opinion means nothing because i haven't made anything better myself.

Forgotten Hope 2.

WW2 Revived through the eyes of BF2.

I am dissapointed with this mod to be clearly honest. my only glimmer of happiness whilst playing was The WW2 Vehicle's. Belting around the map in the hurricane having WW2 dog fights was awsome. no doubt about that. But as the guns fell silent and the next map loaded i was saddened to see FH2's achilles heel.

Tanks, the things look great, big thumbs up, but the handling and aiming proportions are awful, driving down the map into a tank war seemed like it was going to rock, until you fire and it goes nowhere where you were trying to aim. Maybe thats just my bad aiming and skills. Second getting hit from the other tanks. 1 hit kills, i wouldn't mind if they had actually hit me, but they hit the ground just infront of the tank and it still blew me up. I eventually just left the server. People's scores were below average, in a map of 250 tickets the top score was 25. BUT! this isn't a point whoring system.

Tanks unfortunately not FH2's strong point.

Weapons, again i was a little side striken with the weapons, i was expecting these WW2 Guns Revamped for BF2 Use and instead they look like call of duty 1 graphics. and a six minute respawn for certain kits? I just don't understand in the slightest. Also the selection is very bare, i was expecting abit more umpf for the weapon selections.

The maps, what can i say, the scenery, i didn't want to fight i just wanted to stand on the cliffs and look out over the sand and sea, it was very very impressive, maybe one of the major highlights of FH2, it gives you a strange kind of feeling. The only down side is, on the Plane enabled maps, theres just to much fog, you can see about another planes length infront of you, which isn't good when you can only see half of the view infront because of the bulky cockpit view. And yes the airfields do have a concerning location almost out of bounds, and trees on the runway, its just asking for a crash.

The game modes, yes impressive, i can't say anything bad about them, they were entertaining.

Finally, not all vehicles had the 4 different camera angle options, this was a let down, theres nothing like hitting F12 to see your plane fly by in the movie angle. But i did enjoy the fact of the spy plane, finding it in the mountains and flying over enemy territory taking photo's of the enemy positions, i did enjoy that.

My conclusion is, for the amount of time the mod took to be created i was expecting a phenomenal ww2 conversion, but instead i was saddened to see the time and effort put into FH2 was somehow lost along the way. I think with a few tweaks of the game, and some changes to maps and vehicles, FH2 can be the king of the mountain, it has all the potential needed to blow other BF2 mods out of the runnings.

My score for this version of FH2. 6/10

Nice writeup, even though I enjoy the mod in its current form.

I'm not sure if you are into WWII history, but a lot of the tank "balance" issues are due to the level of realism sought by the developers.

It really depends on which tank you were driving around with. Some light tanks -- Panzer II and Vickers -- are extremely vulnerable to almost everything else on the battlefield.

Several tanks such as the Mark IV (short barrel) and M3 Grant have lower velocity cannons, forcing you to aim "above" your target in order to score a hit.

One annoying bug -- caused by the BF2 netcode -- is that I can rarely "hear" when my tank is getting hit by incoming rounds. On some low ping servers, this isn't a problem...but on others I can't tell that I'm being hit. That may answer some of your one-shot one-death problems.

I'm not a pilot, so I can't really comment on the lack of camera views. In the FH forums, the developers have claimed that the camera angles will not change because it gives pilots an unfair advantage...or something. I don't fly enough to care either way, but I do know that I don't worry about planes as much as I did in FH1 as a ground pounder. Maybe it's a little early in the FH2's lifecycle to have the uber-elite pilots out in force.

As for other vehicle's camera angles, I remember in FH1 (and in vanilla BF2) using the other external views to spot enemy soldiers sneaking up behind me to lay a mine or satchel on my tank. Not only is this silly, it is unrealistic. That isn't to say I don't miss it! But it takes away from the game to have eyes on the back of your head, so to speak.

I'm not sure how you felt about the kits/weapons selection. Most of the kits and weapons are the standard issue for that point in the war. No PIATs, bazookas, panzerfausts, MG42s at this point. Some of the kits are limited, but there isn't a standard respawn time (unless you were playing on a modded server) for particular kits. Some are limited (who wants to fight against 32 MG34s!), but generally this isn't much of a problem. The animations for reloading are excellent, IMHO.

Hey, but give FH2 some more time. It will get under your skin (in a good way) before you know it!

Thank you for the info, i didn't realize they'd implemented different strengths for the tanks, this has changed my view. And i will keep playing FH2, because between me and you, its much much better than PR personally. And i am very much so into WW2.

Again thanks.

and a six minute respawn for certain kits? I just don't understand in the slightest.

That's for a Non Commissioned Officier kit. Only squad leaders or commanders are supposed to be allowed to use it, if you select it otherwise it shows in big bright red letters KIT UNAVAILABLE on your screen. Not all soldiers carried an SMG or a pistol or radio, so that's why it's limited to who would carry it in real life.

FH2 is an amazing mod. The problem you would of been having with the tanks is they are much more different to vanilla. Some tanks get taken out in one hot no matter what they are hit from, but these are normally only the light tanks which get taken out in one hit. The larger, more heavily armoured tanks, as in the valentine and the sherman, or the panzer4? they can withstand multiple hits, and in some occasions depending on what is being shot at them, they wont even take any damage.
All in all i think this is a great mod, keep up the good work guys and i look forward to your next release!
