That site's download link is not working for me; therefore, it fails. Use TGF.
Also looks like his mapping skills aren't that good (look at the TV station), and he's trying to cash in on the pre-made prefabs.

Dan or Spawn will mirror the download. I don't have access to the downloads system to upload so therefore I cannot do that. You will just have to wait as I can see the site.

Why doesn't anybody seem to upload/send files to CoDFiles anymore? :/

Think of this one as more of a "fast-food" version of Sharqi. The mapper used pre-made buildings (prefabs) and put them in locations to simulate the BF2 map.
The "other" version, Sharqi Peninsula, was built from scratch in Radiant, and is a closer approximation.
I personally think the Sharqi Peninsula version looks better, however, as in my rant in the mp_village thread, I don't think any map makers should be slagged for the methods they use to build a map - whether prefabs or from scratch. You can say which you think looks better, but the bottom line is always to make a map people will enjoy playing on. And the more maps out there, the better.

Making a map which is mostly [others'] prefabs and publishing it under your name is taking credit for somebody else's work. I have yet to see a map which uses others' prefabs and gives credit where credit's due.

I guess you just have to deal with that. This has been going on way longer than you have been born. I don't farseeing this ever changing.

It would be a courteous thing for people to mention (eg) "models by IW", "original map by EA" or something, but even so, it's the still mapper's idea to do their project, their creativity, and their time to learn the tools and put together all these assets (prefabs, textures, etc) together, add spawnpoints, helo paths, etc, etc. to make a map. I'll agree that it's nowhere near as impressive as stuff made from scratch, but it's still totally valid.
I could see this being a big deal if someone actually "stole" a completed map that someone else made, and tried to pass it off as their own. Just like plagiarizing a term paper, yes, that's pure stealing.
But taking building blocks that are already in place (prefabs) and making something out of them is just like making something out of lego, but with more complex pieces. Again it would be a mature, "professional" thing to list who made the prefabs and original map idea, but I don't think it's a huge deal.
/tangent...I have to shake my head a bit at all the "credit" talk that goes around the Internet. Maybe it's a mapper/modder (artist) thing, I don't know. But on forums everywhere, I see people whining about "hey, you didn't credit me for making your sig", or even in the wiki page Dairuka was making awhile back, some people wanted their tips and info credited. I honestly can't believe people care about that so much. When you look at the big picture, all these things are silly, petty, meaningless. No one is going to get rich or famous off of it.
Back when I did skinning for MOH, I once asked a fellow if I could borrow a specific hat & backpack model he made to use for a custom skin for a guy in our clan. I promised him I'd credit him in the readme, and wouldn't enter the skin in any contests or anything. The guy who made the hat/pack almost laughed at me (in a good way)...he said to take it and use it however I wanted. He said he didn't care about "credit", he just wished me luck with the project. That's the kind of attitude people in the modding/mapping community should have. (and I made sure that he was indeed given credit for it in the readme ;) ).
Sorry for the rambling post...I'm still steamed at the grief given to Paulo88 on the IW forums about his SP-to-MP conversions. And for the record, he did indeed credit IW before anyone else in his readme. ;)
The fellow who made this "new" Sharqi map just made this post over at the IW.com forums today:
hiya , im the guy who made the other version of sharqi.
I would just like to say that i know it has a lot of prefabs, the reason being its the first map ive ever made so i was looking to get the
positioning right before getting on to the details. The version available at the mo is only a tester.
im trying to iron some bugs out most notably the never dieing heli Smiley.
as for zeroys version, what can i say, it looks great.
the level of detail is amazing.
hes obviously put a lot of work into it and i look forward to the final release.
Great attitude, IMO.

I ain't complaining about the method what people uses to make these maps, for CoD4 players to enjoy.
As you said the earlier release looks better than this, and i agree with that one...
Just keep 'em coming guys/girls...
:salute:
I just uploaded it to TGF and have changed the download link ;)

I like both maps!
Sharqi Peninsula is a great map, but if you don't have enough people its a bit pointless in playing it.
This Sharqi on the other hand is a nice size for however many players you have.
What makes me laugh is when people criticize maps (not constructively) when the people that make them put there time and effort into making the maps possible for us all!
Whether they just throw prefabs down then release the map, or completely make the map from scratch, does that really matter???
If the models are there to use, why not use them? Obviously if he's using models made by other people he should get there permission and include them in the readme.
But at the end of the day, have some respect for the people that put there time into making these maps for us all to enjoy. If you don't like the map, don't play it!

Someone start making Rhinevalley/Foy/Karkhov/Italy/Ponyri (the list goes on) from Call of Duty UO and I will be extremely pleased. That or completely original, and well designed custom maps. In due time we'll see more, I tried, but was kicked by punkbuster for having readme.txt in the CoD folder, so I uninstalled and will leave it to those who want to try it out.
They may not be the best looking maps, but at least they are doing something that could end up being something they do in a bigger respect, like level design for a modding group or developer. And trust me, what we need most in this day and age of unfinished game releases are people who enjoy their work.
PEACE
