View Full Version : The Total BF2 Server Status

The operation is a go! Those of you who have donated have been given access to a special forum down at the bottom of the main BF2 category. The server connection info is listed below.
IP: 72.9.96.243
Port: 16567
http://cache.www.gametracker.com/server_info/72.9.96.243:16567/b_560x95.png (http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/72.9.96.243:16567/)
Thanks to very generous donations (Especially by XmetallicaXguitaristX and Alanman on behalf of WSS), we now have the funds to pay for a 64 slot BF2 server. I'd also like to extend my appreciation to the Server Council and all the other donators for helping us make this server a reality.
I'd also like to announce our new method of donating to the TBF2 server fund - the vBulletin Paid Subscription system. From now on, please do not donate to the paypal account directly. Instead, go here (http://totalgamingnetwork.com/main/payments.php) and select the appropriate group. You will automatically be given the appropriate permissions, and then I don't need to worry about who has what access (The more automated the system is, the less likely the operator will screw it up).
Get ready to get your BF2 on!

There will be no fragging for groundpounders. Only sudden, hard and brutal death :) .
Would be interesting to see all the leet players fighting to get into choppers and jets :D
I am afraid admins will be kicking even those gunners/jet pilots that have only average aim/skill

I'll be on it fairly often if the number of players is high.
As for kicking, don't worry... that's not going to happen. If the players are being disruptive and genuinely aren't helping the team, we might consider warning them from going back in before others get a chance, but otherwise, air vehicles are fair game.

No.
In other news, we're getting the final rules hammered out (as well as the map rotation), so once we have that, we'll order the server (so we don't waste any days of usage).

Ah, good to see this post. Seems I have not been able to make it around enough to TGN, but I put in the server fund. Wish I had seen the previous threads as i would to have loved to helped more. If it is just for one month, I might want to setup a re-occurring paypal payment.

I just want to say this - I love the server but I really hate the fact that even though 3/4 of all active TBF2:ers are Europeans we get a server in the US. I can't and won't be able to play competitively on this server, and people having even worse ping than me are in an even worse position.

Oman
Mashtuur
Wake
Karkand
Dalian
Sharqi
We were talking about an "All air maps Saturday" and some sort of other special day on Sunday... But for now, that is the rotation. I just bumped it to Mashtuur in case Oman was getting old.

Guys, get on the server now.
Webs961
03-07-2008, 08:55 PM
Yeah, doing.
To get the server full and keep it full, we need to get a good amount of people on the server and keep it that way for probably a week. Even if that means having people keep their comps idling BF2 in the server, that'd work.

If it's going to be successful then you/we need a niche.
MoonGamers Karkand is so awesome because it's 64 players packed into a 16 player map (I think), and so people love to play on the server. I don't think there exists another Karkand 64-player-on-a-16-player-map server in the entire game - hence NICHE !!
What we currently have now is the vast, vast majority of BF2 servers - entirely random map cycles, simply generic, and no niche at all.
There, sirs, is the problem.
The server appeals very slightly to everybody, but is loved by nobody

MoonGamers is basically an entire Battlefield fan community. They are always full because they have a huge number of regular players.
Regular players is the keyword. It has to be known. For now, the best we can do is play on TBF2 server ourselves. If we keep it populated enough for enough time, it will grow a regular base.

yeah I think you're right. Except, change moongamers to rubberducky. I just checked and moongamers karkand is 64 player map. rubberducky was 16 player map with 64 slots and it was really fun but it's gone now for some reason

Well that's the problem.. it won't.
People like to play on map cycles they want to play on, personally I like a bit o' Karkand 24/7 and Wake Island 24/7 and so I play on particular servers that I like.
With the current map configuration, it's simply the generic "default" server option, nothing special at all, just a bunch of random maps put together. With that configuration, not only do not many people like it, but also you're competing with the huge amounts of other servers that run the "random" maps cycle.
Like I said, the map cycle appeals a little bit to everybody, but nobody really likes it, and it is the people that "really like it" that are your regulars who keep the server populated.
This is just the way it seems to me. Sadly choosing to specialise in something will mean some people are left out in that they just don't like it. Bah :dead:

a 24/7 WILL get popular faster, it's been proven.
Maybe we can make it a 24/7 so we get a player base.. then start switching it up?
Chris_Redfield
03-09-2008, 09:10 PM
So this basically makes me the only one who isnt biased towards one particular map? All I have in my server broswer, that I look for, is if the ping is below 170 and that the server didnt have "IO" in it. Thats it.
People who play a particular map are drifters. And there actually does exist a group that doesnt care which map its on, as the player it attached to the community. For example. sR City Maps, Rubber Ducky, MoonGamers (before they went Oman), CainsLair, FMJ, et cetera.
I hate Dalian, but I gladly went for a quickie with Sloi.
2-3 years into the game, there really is only 2 kinds. Community players and drifters. Today, Im a drifter, but only because my favourite servers are filled with people I dont know.

You aren't alone. I don't really like Fushe, Wake or Cleansweep but I enjoy playing on all of the other maps. I like the varied map rotation. The only reason I can see for me to go to 24/7 servers is when I'm on my slow-loading laptop. It sucks to stare at the screen for 6 minutes every 20 minutes.
But these days I can only stand the same map about 3 times in a row. Any more than that and I'm heading to another server.
That's how I found the server in my sig, a co-op server with private ranking? Fun times with every map in the rotation.

I'd love to be a regular if the server gave me some fun. Right now it's underpopulated, high-ping:ed (which really affects gameplay, you know it, i know it, everyone else knows it), and has Karkand in it's mapcycle (which in my own very humble opinion FAILS.) .
I think we need to less variety in our maplist, such as doing airmaps only.

I ping about 140-150 on TBF2 server, and I get very solid hit detection. Its not perfect, but for the ping, its solid. I could get J10s into black smoke in one pass and occasionally shoot a chopper down in 1 pass. I even did some shotgunning and took down 4 choppers with a tank last night. So its solid.
As for map variety, Id say give it another week and then I suppose we could figure out what group we should cater to, to keep the server populated.

Oh how I miss the days....damn that was a fun server. The sad thing is there are no city maps servers anymore. I get sick of Karkand, but if I want non-IO city maps, its either MG Karkand or Insomnia Sharqi.

Could we have a ranked, 16/32 map size server with a 64 player capacity? Maybe that could be our niche, a rotation of 16/32 player size maps with lots of players on them. That way, nobody gets left out, and everyone has a blast. Small maps with tons of players is just amazingly awesome.
