Community member Maffski has released a very impressive looking map today. Check it out below:

Gametypes Supported:
• Team Death Match
• Free For All
• Sabotage
• Search & Destroy
• Domination
• Headquarters
• CTF/B (AWE4)

Map Size:
Large 16-32+ players, more the better.

Well as you see it is a forrest/hill map with two bases at either end, I've set it up to use SAS/Spetsnaz so the ghillies will come in handy. I've provided quite a few good sniping spots as I always thought it a shame that the stock maps rarely gave the snipers room to breathe. There is still plenty of cover in the undergrowth for the run'n'gunners and I think all the weapons classes can be useful on this map. I also wanted a map that didn't favor one side or the other so the map is essentially symmetrical, obviously asymmetrical maps are usually more aesthetically pleasing, maybe thats something I can work on for my next project. Despite being somewhat large the map can be traveled across pretty quickly if you can find the gaps in the fences or if you are willing to navigate the escape/fallout shelter tunnels. As it is players that like to flank the enemy should have good opportunities to do so, so you snipers better watch out for a knife in the back too, you cant have it all your way can you! Grin Also, I did my best to make everything climbable, I know the first thing I do in a map is find out where I can get to, so I just made it easy for everyone, no special jump tricks needed with this one.

It really does. Apparently, it's his first map, too (with some help from others in his clan).

Hope to find this on a decent-ping server soon.

Great map, the tunnels are kinda fun anD the foliage is even better! great places to snipe from! Great map! :-D

I'll be adding this to the FPS CoD4 server tonight!

EDIT: FPS has decided to leave CoD4 in favor of FFoW. Sorry, there isn't a server configured any longer!

Be sure you try out mp_pst_islands as well, then...pretty much made for snipers, and it's really big.

After i read your post i checked out the pic. And i gotta say that it looks awesome as well... Now i gotta find good server and check these out...

Don't forget, you can download these maps, put a folder the same as the map name in your "usermaps" folder (eg. COD4/usermaps/mp_kob_breakout) and extract the map files into it (follow the instructions in some of the readme files that come with the maps...some require files to be in different places), then you just need to start up COD4, click on Mods, launch ModWarfare, then open the console and type in: /map mp_kob_breakout and hit Enter. It will then load the map on your own PC as a listen server. You will have to exit back to the menu before you can load another custom map, however, or your game will crash.

I was looking if this map is running on some server but no luck... :(

What i found though that there is some different sniper mod on this one server. I joined up and check'd it out. It turned out that it was a night map(this power plant thingy), sniper rifles are silenced, no sway and they had range meter.. :D

Too bad that it was empty...

It's not 24/7, but that map is in the rotation on the [KOB] server: 193.47.83.179:28932

Maybe it's better if i check out that server..

Since i managed to freeze my game, and i had to boot my pc to get out of the game.. :D

NVM i had the .IWD file in the wrong folder.. :D

One thing i noticed while running around in this map. There isn't exactly that many good sniping spots in the map. Or atleast all i found was few.. But maybe i need to test it on a live server to see how it works...

I do hope the v1.6 patch fixes a lot of these custom map/directory bugs...it's quite easy to make a wrong move and crash your game or server at the moment. :|:

Well yeah. I put the .IWD file to this "Extreme" folder that i have in the Mods folder. And with ModWarfare launched it really didn't like that i tried to open the map...

Right, that won't work. If you're going to run the ModWarfare mod, then all the map files (including .iwd) need to be in the specifically-named map folder, inside the usermaps folder.

If you put the .iwd file in your "Extreme" mod folder, then you need to launch the "Extreme" mod to access the map.

A good (I think) rule of thumb is to put the .iwd file in all of the specific mod folders. But be aware that right now, if you have too many .iwd files in a mod folder, you'll get a file/sum mismatch error. Hopefully 1.6 will also address that. In the meantime, I've created a "temp" folder inside of each mod folder I have, and I move .iwd files back and forth from those temp folders as needed.

As you can see, it's a bit of a pain in the @$$ at the moment ;) but you can get things to work eventually.

This was actually the first time i dl:ed the map by myself and placed it where it belongs. I usually just join the server and let it do all the work.. :D

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys :)

Version 2 is ready *touch wood* and being tested and I'm hoping for a mid-week release, providing no new errors rear their ugly heads, but things look ok so far.

Changes that have been made include the following:-

1:- SD spawn positions and bombs moved slightly and foliage tweaked to make line of sight between the two spawns much more restricted.
2:- Sabotage bombs moved to the prison and barracks ends.
3:- Several more gaps in the fence included and they are now much more easily visible due to a distinct foliage pattern where the gaps are, I also made them easier to get through.
3:- Added visual aids to the tunnels to make navigating them easier
4:- A few minor cosmetic changes at the barracks end.
5:- Tweaked rocks a bit to avoid being able to get inside them.
6:- Small tweak to ladders to make them easier to get off of.
7:- Added an alternate route into/out of the barracks.
8:- Some lighting tweaks for the indoor and underground areas.

New version will have a different and shorter filename and will come shipped with the stripped down iwd file.

Anyway, if anyone has any further feedback having played a bit please let me know sooner rather than later so any needed fixes can be included.
