We've set up this forum for everyone to start discussing Call of Duty 5. We know that Call of Duty 5 will be WWII and that it will be developed by Treyarch instead of Infinity Ward. That's about all we know so far. Here are some threads already posted in the news section regarding COD5:
Call of Duty 5 to be WWII?

So feel free to start the discussion on COD5 and what you'd like to see in the game. Call of Duty 5 will get a larger forum section similar to Call of Duty 4 now when more info is known about the game and we get closer to its release.

CoD5!!!!! oh dear lord... but if it's gunna b WWII it might have some problems in it, for ppl are drifting away from history and concentrating more on modern gaming, or even futuristic...

I dont think IW is going to make another WW2 one, unless someone beats them all to unconsiousness with big heavy bags of money. Even then, I dont know.
Plenty of modern stuff to work with though and there is always the future!
As for CoD5, I am going to let the demo decide. Ive not played any Treyarch games, but I havent heard good things about them.
Time will tell.

They've probably been making CoD5 for the past year or so, it's probably too late for them to change it if it's still set in Europe.
Yes, but theres no reason to suggest it isnt in the Pacific theatre

What about a Korean era war? They have a few Vietnam's and a few (well more than a few) WWII's why not a Korean war game?

IMO, it's difficult to just take any war setting and make a game of it. Just like a good map, there has to be some kind of unique-ness to it.
Some of the more famous wars (WWII Europe/Africa, Vietnam jungle, current Iraq/Afghanistan urban conflict) are easy, but for lesser-known wars like Korea, I think a developer might have a hard time attracting people to it. I'm not as knowlegeable about various historical wars as other people, but when I think of Korea, nothing really jumps out at me, other than memories of M*A*S*H* on TV.

If Triehard software can't produce a modern day shooter, then I'm not interested.
WWII games have been around for ages and have sucked every well known (or "Hollywood-ized") battle dry. I don't want to know what some small Allied unit secretly did to turn the tides of WWII.
If I see another swastika in a game i'm going to scream!
/end rant.
Seriously, if we have to go old school, can't we go to Korea or Vietnam??? :)

I've heard many people including myself who think a Revolutionary War, Civil War, or WWI game would be great. The technology is there now where it could make it fun instead of just lame if it was made ten years ago.
I love WWII, but I do love CoD4, the first modern game to keep my attention. I usually get bored after a month or two of other modern games. I do miss my single shot rifles though. :(

Realism is, in no way, balanced; therefore, the game would not be fun to many players.

Very closed minded response.
It may also not be up to TreyArch on what they can produce, it may be in their contract for them to make a WWII game. They may just not want to make a modern era game. Also, your pun on their company name and your general attitude towards them is very rude and discriminating. I really don't like when people insult a company where the insulter usually doesn't have a clue how much effort and time they put forth to make the game.

Very good point! :) If someone wants to play a realistic game then ArmA is certainly the best to recommend. However if you want a action filled shooter but with realistic setting, time and weapons then the CoD series are good for you. ;)

Modern warfare is over. CoD4 was a great game, great storyline and great ending. Did you hear that slogan saying Weapons change, soldiers don't. And have you realized that all the characters in cod4 were also in all the other cod games? Thats their slogan. But seriously it was a great ending, great game! Captain Price is dead and its time for something new now.

But anyway, CoD5 isn't even being developed by IW. CoD6 will most likely be modern warfare as well.

IMO it wouldn't be that great. TBH WWII was a whole different type of war, instead of battle formations and intrenched warfare the frontlines moved. I can't see how trench warfare would really be that great in a MP game.
I agree with Veritas & Khan613, I don't really like Treyarch's work and I can't see why they cannot use another time frame.

So what about the Revolutionary or Civil War idea? And you can have 'creative liberties' with games. You would have to be stuck in a trench the whole time for the WWI game. Sure, whiners would claim "not realistic" but if you're respawning after death, the realism already went out the door.

That was said in Dec 07, and the new update Announced by Activision in Feb 08 that it will be for PC.
Im looking forward to the game for PC and I love the idea of haveing both Modern CoD and WWII CoD to pick from, 1 day I might want to play WWII and the other Modern its going to be nice to have the option for the PC, And CoD3 SP was OK but the CoD3 MP was not that bad(my m8 has a 360) just hope that CoD5's MP will be like CoD:United Offensive but with CoD4 graphics,
Its also more $$$ for Activision to have it for all platforms. I like that its coming for PC and I will get it! And play both Modern and WWII.

The WWII genre is still very popular, especially among history buffs and slightly older gamers, and there's lots of money still to be made.
It makes a lot of sense to let another company like Treyarch take on COD5 (at least for one more year...rumour is that IW will then regain all rights to the COD franchise), with IW free to work on COD6.

I'd like to see CoD 5 be based on Vietnam. I think they are either going to do that or some kind of futuristic war which always turns out like crap. Really, what other major wars/conflicts were there that aren't kind of merged together or that would make an incredibly boring game (pre-WW I etc.)

Also means should be able to easily use mods from CoD4 onto CoD5 :D plus they should be keeping the same fast file compression (.ff)

Wrong good sir, I dislike BF games. They're good for about a month and then get old, I'm an infantry person also. I'm not saying better b/c of the vehicles, I'm talking better b/c it is made by the people who made UO, the best cod. IW's cod's feel more stiff (as some people even said CoD2 was a step back from UO) whereas as Grey Matter (makers of CoDUO, Wolf: ET MP and now part of Treyarch) know how to make fun, team-oriented games, and that is why those two games I listed that they made are hugely successful mp games.

I would also agree with The_Eliminator. They said they've enhanced the physics more and in different ways, but that would probably also mean you could just turn your physics settings off and it wouldn't affect your system. :)
Gunny
07-13-2008, 05:29 PM
Enhanced physics? I gusse if you can run Airborne at high setting and R6V2 you should have no prob? but they don't want to shoot them self in the foot right, I have always found that the CoD's have been system friendly games.
Needles
07-14-2008, 04:15 AM
They are pretty system friendly, always able to turn them down and still enjoy them quite a bit.
My only beef with CoD games, and most shooters in general, is that camouflage doesn't really play that big of a role. For example, in Cod4, I can see a sniper in a bush all the way across the map in Creek. I would like for my Ghillie suit to make a difference compared to regular infantry suits. I absolutely love the sniping in all the CoD games, I just wish I were harder to spot. The only way people don't spot me is if I go prone, but then I can't see anything :(
I dunno, hopefully camouflage works a little better in CoD5 with some better graphics/more shadows..we will see.

A vote kick option for 360/PS3 while in-game would be nice, too many TKers in Hardcore matches (that's if Treyarch implements Hardcore).
As for PC, would be cool if they had some sort of X-monthly update where they release custom maps in a pack to be played on ranked servers via a certification process like Microsoft's XNA. People make a map, upload it to Treyarch site, people DL it and play it, then rate it, and every X months Treyarch take the map(s) with good ratings and consider them for a map pack so people can play custom content on ranked.

I just found out that for the consoles in CoD:4 MP the player can't pick witch side they want to play on its all autoselect:shock:. I don't like that! and I hope its never like that for the PC MP in CoD:WW, I think the more options a player has in MP the more appealing the game is, it sould be like what we PC player have in MP the 3 options Allied, Enemy or Autopick with auto balance the teams when there off. Should not be forced to be on a side that the player doesn't like the player should always have the option to pick the side he/she is more interested in i.e. weapons, uniforms what not. but auto balance is a must!:salute:

Well, the factions in CoD4 don't really matter except for maybe the uniforms. Weapons? Well, everyone pretty much has a custom kit loadout...

09-06-2008, 03:13 AM
That what I mean i.e. when playing SAS vs Russians I always take the SAS because I just like the uniforms better and that is 1 of the main resons to have options in a game. the options in a MP menu the more appealing it is to the player
