View Full Version : I Finally Understand...

I finally understand why Baur users always complain about Voss and to a less extent, Krylov users. After having played armor for 3/4 of my BF2142 career to get the awards, I've been retraining myself for infantry combat, and I figured I might as well try to master the trick of single-shot on the Baur. It really, really doesn't help that I get every packet of information from servers at a 1/2 second delay because of my University's packet shaping. I just seem to do 2-3x better when I'm back home during breaks. =[

Anyways, it's always lovely when you land 3-4 perfectly, controlled single shots and then a stream of "pshew pshew pshew pshew pshew" takes you down. Really, when playing the Baur on single-shot, you really start getting this superiority complex. You start being molded to think that even the luxury of bursting is lame. =P

And at long distances, you just think: man... why don't I just play sniper? The Baur is like a sniper rifle that does less damage and doesn't have zoom.

And at close range, you think: man... I might as well play Voss or even Lambert/Engineer SMG since I can get far more shots off in a far shorter period, even if each individual shot does slightly less damage.

Anyways, does anyone have any tips? I'm not terrible with the Baur. Just not amazing with it and a bit out of practice. I have yet to master the three shot burst with the Baur. It seems like it's a risky move because if you are even off by a little, you're dead. I also feel like I can't use the Baur except on single-shot mode. Sometimes it'll accidentally get set back to burst mode, and I'll become horribly disoriented. Ultimately, I may be giving the Baur a bad rap because of my connection problems. I may re-evaluate once I have a chance to test somewhere outside my university.

Best piece of advice is fight at medium to long range, and keep it on single-shot. If you have to wade in to close range, go ahead and put it back on full auto... it's the only way you're going to have a prayer vs. the Voss, Lambert, or SMG you may find yourself rounding a corner into.

I am a dedicated Baur user, but I don't complain about Voss. Voss, IMHO, is not a superior weapon to Baur, but rather a different weapon. Krylov IS superior to both in almost all respect.

Every Baur user will tell you different ways of using it. I set it to auto most of the time, and only set it to semi when I find the opportunity favors that. I used to carry rockets and defib only, but recently I started to use Herzog a lot more when rockets are not very useful. Herzog is the only thing that can counter Clark in CQB.

When in very close engagement, always crouch-shoot-move-crouch-shoot-... without scoping. When in mid-range engagement, always crouch-scope-burst-burst. Reload under 12 bullets, or just to maintain a full clip when situation allows. The more you use it, the more you will get its characteristic. My case is that the first time I picked it up from someone's kit, I own with it. That's why I stick with it even when I play as PAC.

the best way of using the baur for me is: first learn to train the recoil in emptie servers. then learn how the fire one bullet in full auto. then try and get a headshot and two bodyshots. the recoil is now handleble not the deviation. now you are forced to burst. scoping depends on the situation. scope gives more recoil but less deviation. use herzog to back you up in cqc if you run out of bullets then switch to pistol(or vice versa depends on the distance and dammage of the enemie). but the best thing to do is never get into a situation where you cant reload.

There is variation between each weapon, but the biggest difference is and always will be skill level.

lots and lots of practice. Then one day it will all come together. Once you get the recoil down you will feared on the battlefield.

There really no tips any one can give you, the baur can be used in so many different ways. Just keep using it and learn from your mistakes and what works best with your style.

^Yep practice, practice, practice.
About the sniping part......It's true the Baur doesn't have anywhere near the range of a real sniper rifle, and only about half the power. But a sniper doesn't have the mobility and versatility the Baur does. Usually being a real sniper requires you to nest somewhere to be effective, which is fine, that's what snipers do. But if your CP/silo or nest comes under attack, you're left with nothing but a pistol, and that will only get you so far. I've used the Baur as a mid-range sniper rifle alot, and with alot of success. I like to use it when defending silos. You can pick off people in front trying to cap, switch to PKs to finish off the guys that run behind the silo, then when the one guy that broke out climbs the ladder of your sniper tower, give him a face full of Herzog to greet him. :)

My tip would be to use the Herzog... it's great for CQC and generally you'll have a better chance of suriving if the enemies get too close... I don't bring PK rockets cause the Baur is such a great rifle at range anyway.
