View Full Version : How many use a gaming mouse?

I used to think it was a stupid gimmick, not any more! I bought a Logitech laser mouse for gaming and my score is improved a lot, I still get pawned by better players, but I don't laugh at those who bought a gaming mouse as I have joined the ranks who bought yes, a gaming mouse.

i got some Razor mouse thats black with some gay glowing blue emblem on it that fades on and off which is kind of neat but the thing i really like is the 2 buttons on the side that i've assigned for buttons 5 and 6. had to get used to it but its slightly faster and easier than pressing the 5 and 6 buttons on the keyboard.
ummmm... i personally dont really see the difference.....
control wise..no i dont think some gaming mouse is any different than the laser mouse that comes with your computer i got some dealy that came with my Razor mouse where you can adjust the dpi setting but i just keep it at 450dpi all the time i dont think you can change it in game either.

Oh, I have a Laser Mouse as well. But it's not specifically for gaming. Doing well with it though. :) I guess my mousepad is still downing my scores a little.

i dont even have a mousepad i just have a tablecloth lol. maybe if the mouse pad has some crazy space age anti friction material on it i dont think its going to help.
Do people actually use ball mouse's? this is a new idea to me i thought everyone used laser mice nowadays. eh whatever i got a ball mouse at this comp and i guess its not all that bad it shouldnt hurt you too much enless maybe you were blowing stuff up with gunship TV missles idk

Logitech G-5 For the win ;)
Customizing the weight really helps, and the sensitivity on the fly is PRICELESS in game. I personally like a heavy mouse with high sensitivity... My G-5 Delivers :D No matter what you like in a mouse (sensitivity and weight-wise) the G-5 will suite you. I also has two thumb buttons (one for Vent, one for TS) which are useful as well.

i love the G5, it wasn't too much money, but well worth it. I am still tweaking it, but my body count is higher now. I can take out those annoying enemy solders that try to bother me while I capping a silo.

I got the g5 as well, and had problems trying to set up the software to match 42. So I disabled the software, and use it like a regular mouse and it works fine. The big part is the extra hot buttons, so that you aren't reaching up on the keyboard with two hands.

Logitech G5 here. I don't use any weights in it since I'm rather light handed. Two thumb mouse buttons make fast switching to weapons 5 and 6 easy. Sensitivity adjust on the fly makes using the anti vehicle turret lots of fun, blasting away infantry and FAVs that i might had missed if I was using an ordinary mouse. The knuckle of my small finger does become sore after playing for a long while tho.
edit: one thing i might want to add is that this is my second G5 after the original one ive bought broke. The left mouse button stopped working altogether. Fortunately, they used the mouse's serial number to determine my purchase date and gave me a brand new one free of charge. So there might be a durability issue with them

I read some reviews about that left button breaking with the G5...
I tried the razer mice, but those low profile meeces have my fingers dragging across my mat and screwing with my aiming. I like my mice girthy.

i have a razer diamondback and i hate it. i hate the feel of the side gel thingy and the mouse is too low profile. and it attracts oil and gunk like crazy. i tend to prefer thicker and shorter mice, i had a fatality mouse i liked but it broke down. i'm not sure what to get, i might give logitech a try.

The G5 is the cheaper model and yes it has weights, I really don't see to much advantage, but I loaded it up for a heavy feel, I guess it helps. I know my body count is up since I got it as while in play you can adjust the sensitivity from like medium to sensitive for when you get in a tank or use the titan gun, and the ability to adjust speed makes a difference.

I used to have some crappy normal desktop Logitech mouse to play games with. It'd move the cursor by itself to the top right by itself sometimes for no apparent reason and I got really fed up when there'd be this "imaginary line" that the cursor would not pass through until I lifted the mouse up.
That's when I got fed up and got the Logitech G5 I have now and I'm never turning back to desktop mice again! Mouse movements are so much more precise on the G5 than I have ever felt before.

You can get a G9 for AU$95+ just from a quick search on StaticIce. Here's the link so you can access it faster: http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=Logitech+G9

Gotta love the G15's 2142 display. Quite useful at times - especially taking a quick glance at the K/D ratio to see if you're having a good day or not! I like the little walker animation on screen too. Where he looks to be running at 200+mph while the next map round is loaded - lol!

I'm using a Razer Deathadder at the moment but, I've had the diamondback and the copperhead. They've all been great and the Deathadder is OK but nothing like the copperhead or diamondback imo. Plus I'm left handed so it kinda leaves the logiteck mice out of my realm of usage. I also have a G15 keyboard that is great for gaming. Sadly the deathadder is built for righthanders so I need to look into getting a new mouse.

Wireless mice are a hassle. The wireless part is great but, they have a tendency to freeze up if they leave range and when the battery is low they are useless and glitchy. They are very inconvienent for gaming. The reason I use a mouse like a Razer Copperhead or Deathadder is because I can make small adjustments to cater to my liking. For instance I like my left to right motion to be very fast but my up and down motion to be very unresponsive to my input because I get to shaky when I play and It allows me to aim much better. so I can whip around real fast to shot someone and when I go to aim up and down I'm not gonna have that same fast jerky response if that makes sense. I also like the on-the-fly sensitivity. when I'm assault for instance every thing over all is very sensitive to my input on the mouse. With on the fly I can switch over quickly if I wanna do sniping. For sniping I want my mouse to be unsensitive if that makes sense. I want it to be sensitive enough that I have to lift my mouse once just to get the curser from one side of the screen to the next. That way i'm not all jerky and I can focus on taking out the enemy instead of playing games with my mouse.

Was pretty average with a standard mouse/keyboard. Now using a G5 and G15 and I am a much better player. If I went back to standard mouse/keyboard now I'd probably be able to cope fine, but I did notice a big difference right away after using the new mouse/keyboard.
Thinking about looking at the G9, might get one when I upgrade to a new PC next month, but the G5 is quite sufficient really.

i just dont know how having a better mouse and keyboard is going to help you that much. I have a standard Dell Keyboard that came with my comp and some $60 Razor mouse. I didnt notice any difference between the dell mouse and this new mouse either
the only hardware your going to get thats going to help your performance would be anything that increases/ smooths your framerate or increases your hit detection

i notice the difference between a cheap mouse and a decent gaming mouse.. with the cheapo ones i fond when im turning or aiming its a bit jumpy.. and when going for a more precision shot it seems to be over responsive and seems to over compensate.. as for the keyboard there is no difference at all.. i just like the look of the G-15 :D its got to be the best looking keyboard there is.. I don't know what Dell mouse you are using. The ones that came with the computers in my work place are very good 800dpi optical mice. They are better than my crappy HP mouse, which, though with some issues, is still better than all my notebook mice for gaming (400dpi).
If you use mouse like mine which freezes up randomly and, yes, can empty the whole magazine at some instances, then you'd look for better mouse. Also, better ergonomics will do you less damage on your wrist in the future. Especially to people who play at least 3 hours, and sometimes 6 hours, a day.

i know it was a horrible mouse in terms of functionality and durability (they all eventually suffer from a double click malfunction), but i really liked the size and feel of the mouse. it's a little shorter than most mice but little fatter maybe. from what i've seen, it looks like the logitech G9 looks pretty similar to it, what do you guys think?

It does increase sometimes because of the added quality of a gaming mouse.
You get better control over sensitivity and there's usually a higher quality laser and smoothness of the base. This gives you a much better aim than some crappy desktop mouse would.

I use a logitech MX Revolution, I like the design of it. Gaming mice tend to be designed to appeal to 17yr olds with no sense of style ;)
Just the other day I turned up the speed in the mouse cpl and makes a lot of difference to play. I wonder how high I could go before it makes the situation worse not better.

they are better because they often allow for higher dpi, which means you can be more precise as there are more 'pixels' to mouse through. you can also change the sensitivity on the fly which is an obvious advantage. mat/surface is also v important, but my shiny desk-top does well enough
dont go wireless if you want the best of the best, same goes for routers and the act of coitus

I used to think gaming mice were the geekiest thing ever just existing for flash! :D However now I've learned that it makes a huge difference playing with my (by now) good old Razer Diamondback.

OK, I'm a big nerd. I got the 2142 special edition G5 laser gaming mouse. It does make a diff, though. I like that it has weights, I can change dpi settings on the fly, it has lots of buttons, and it is very ergonomic. Plus I got it on ebay for a deal!

I use one... and I do use the weights it comes with (G5, I just replaced my MX518) which makes me feel a bit geeky :(

I went from an LED to the G5 laser and it was a big difference. I like logitech, so thats why I chose the G5 over any other type. Its been a good mouse.

I have a Logitech G9 mouse and G11 keyboard combo. Got them at a good price during the CompUSA closeout sales.
For me, it actually did make a difference! I like the non-slip casing on the mouse!

can someone recommend a mouse similar to the creative fatality mouse?
i know it was a horrible mouse in terms of functionality and durability (they all eventually suffer from a double click malfunction), but i really liked the size and feel of the mouse. it's a little shorter than most mice but little fatter maybe. from what i've seen, it looks like the logitech G9 looks pretty similar to it, what do you guys think?
this is the creative fatality mouse:

i think the G9 might be my next mouse...or is anything new on the horizon at logitech?

LOL - so true. The day that I switch to a wireless mouse or keyboard, is the day I have literally trawlled the planet in finding a wired one.
Never have liked wireless crap. The whole concept of recharging an input device is just plain stupid. Switch your TV over with an infra-red device? Fine. Try stopping to inbound APCs with the titan's front turret only to find that you have 2% battery left?
A definite case of form over function...
