This game still have a lot of players?

Just wondering, because its starting to age. I was thinking of playing it when I get home, so I wanted to know if there will be lots of servers.

Also, being as I haven't played in a while: Is the Voss still the best AR? Have the maps changed or are there new maps? Any recent gameshaking patches?

Latest patch is 1.40. Still lots of players. You will find a few full 64 servers etc...
Voss was not and will not be the best AR in most peoples minds. Krylov is.

I am waiting for my new system, after my upgrade I will defenetly come back and play.

BF2 is still alive so I don't see any reason why BF2142 would not be played.

If you want some "new" maps than maybe Northern Stike is an option for you.

i went back to playing bf2 a week ago and saw lots of populated servers around, so i can only assume there are those who still dig it. But it also came with the annoying solo apc, tank and jet whores and being forced to go anti tank all the time does kill variety while playing on public servers.

So I'm glad that I still play 2142 and as long as i have other buddies to play with me, I'll continue doing so. After all, its who you play with that makes multiplayer games fun.

speaking on the topic of BF2, which is better- BF2 or BF2142. BF2142 looks a lot simpler, IMO

usuallly there is about 8-9k people playing 2142. right now at 10:30 am EST there are 4622 people playing.

2142 is still alive and kicking some ***. Of course bf2 has more players, but everything i hated in bf2 EA got right with 2142. IMO 2142 is superior to bf2 in every way from vehicle/weapon balance to the user interface.

I don't know how you can say that 2142 is simpler than bf2. Theres so much more going on that you have to pay attention to your surroundings more. Everything is deadly, unlike bf2 where you really only have to deal with overpowered jets bombing everything to pieces.

no, i meant in kits- like the engineer- i hate shotguns, but i like anti-armor weaponry. in BF2 they are separate, but in BF2142 they arent.

Yep. With my first soldier I used the Voss quite a lot. Never used Krylov or Scar. When I created XxSTAM1NAxX I started to use the Krylov a lot... Never looked back.

i liked how they joined the functionality of the anti tank and engineer kit from bf2 into one kit in 2142. One of the reasons i hated engineer in bf2 is because of its lack of personal weaponry and reliance on vehicles. Its one of those specialized roles that make you excel at one thing but nothing else. in 2142, you're a jack of all trades and you do them very well.

From 7 kits to just 4? I don't know how you can get any simpler than that.

2142 is is far easer to get rank and 2142 has really grown on me, yes I like it better, especially the titan mode.

The main difference with CoD4, Q3ET and other hot titles is, I think, that BF2142 still is the most "free" map style, no missions or anything, you do whatever you like in each round, plus almost all maps are very open and large to go around (not many choke points). It's hard to get bored quickly with that.

However, it's getting really tiring finding myself kicked off a server with no reason at all, no message and no reserved places in clan servers. Apparently, some people get frustrated very quickly when they get killed 3-4 times in a row with SAAW. :dead:

Far from as many players as CS, CoD4 or BF2... but still enough to being able to find a good server every time :D

I still love this game but I mix it up a little bit with other games as well.

That's actually one of the best features of BF2, imo. The fact that you had to pick a class that only fulfilled a specific role. I really do like the four classes in 2142, but at times you do feel like a one-man army.

I think if the squad function was rammed down every players' throat, then a wider spread of classes would work better. Each team member relying on the other for support and help when the situation dictates it.

However, that's unlikely to ever happen properly - so in hindsight, DICE took the best option with reducing the number of kits.
