so for anyone who has made frag vids i need some info. like:
what programs do you need other than FRAPS or CamStudio?? Do you need some kind of editing software? i know there is Sony Vegas but that costs money.
With say.. a 3 minute video..how large of a file is that?? caus i tried recording like 15 seconds of me moving my mouse around the screen with CamStudio and it was a 3.35MB Avi file. And then
Ok lets say that i take fraps or camstudio and record some video, ok... i can watch it on my media player but.. is there any way i can cut out parts of the video so i can have what i want?? im confused. this is actually kind of complicated.....my head hurts
anyone whos made a vid tell me anything that might help me idk what but im trying to figure this out
thanks
lol i have Windows Moive maker on my PC after 1.5 years i had no idea so funny..
but anyways any tips would be cool idk....

ok so 1. fraps is best u record the clips then it saves it to C:\program files\ fraps
then windows movie maker to edit it
THEN instead of saving it do ctrl + P and publish it to your computer
then conpress it to about 40-50 mb then upload it to a site :P

publish it to your comp?
then with compressing it you mean send it to a compressed zip folder right?
with testing FRAPS playing CoD4 real quick for a 27 second clip the file size was 336MB. that seems REALLY big. like too big

Not for fraps
run it through windows movie maker and then push publish
that will compress it

MrLyramion gave me a good link. It's called DrDivX. It will easily compress the video to a smaller filesize.
May I also add that it is for free and does a great job? It reduced my 290MB video to a 50MB small one without great loss of quality. A must have for online video sharing, I'd say. ;)

i justed used divx and you can choose the quality and file size you wanted to reduce too.

Yep, you can just set the target filesize and it will automatically compress it accordingly. Nothing difficult, really. And if you are not satisfied with the resulting quality of the movie, just do it again and increase the target filesize a little.

Fraps, if your computer is good enough you can record at 50 FPS. That way you play the game a little smoother and you can make slow-mo sections without it getting too laggy :)
Sony Vegas is great, but WMM works fine if you don't want to make lots of special effects and stuff.

wow some stuff that i recorded i was turning fraps on and off kind of awkward what do you guys do..record a whole match with it on the whole time?? that seems like a really large file.
that and i was playing on a 20 person gib server with 30 ping and whenever i turned it on it like cut my frames in half from 60-28ish that is really bad 60-70fps is about as high as it gets for me too imagine the horrible fps destruction that would be had on a normal server wow fraps.
I tried using CamStudio but for some reason i dont think the record/pause/stop hotkeying works while you in another applicaiton wierd

Well thats FRAPS for you.
I can get 300+ FPS now on 2142 and when i hit FRAPS it goes to 30 FPS lol

Fraps will cut down the FPS while recording to framerate you record in! The movie wont go over 30 FPS usually anyway after you uploaded it somewhere. If you want a smooth game even while you recording set it at 60 FPS in the Fraps menu - but will make file very big

Also, make sure to disable AA while recording. You won't see the AA later in the movie anyway.

i actually made a little 4 minute video with FRAPS and WinMovie Maker the only problem is i cant publish it for some reason either my source files are missing which doesnt make sense caus i have a big list of all the clips where i imported from and the movie does not exceed the max file size or anything like that and im saving it to "my vidoes" a folder that is on the hard disk it doesnt make sense. eh, i got the footage i can just make the video again i guess..eh
uhhh why is MFA banned? im confused

And generally i record fraps when i know im going in for the kill and i check my fraps folder everytime i close down battlefield, its so annoying seraching through footage after fotoage of nothingness.

game.lockfps 500
The number is the max amount of FPS. Default is game.lockfps 100
You can also view fps using renderer.drawfps 1

whats the point of having 300fps? your eyes arent going to notice the difference if only slightly(?) 40fps-100fps is another issue.

Allows you to slow-mo movies without making it too jumpy.
