View Full Version : Dynamic Shadows - Still "Jaggy" in the Titan Training Video

There was an argument in the "New Screenshots" thread about if those screen shots represent "real" in game renders, or if they use increased effects not avaliable when actually playing the game in real life

http://www.totalbf2142.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2834

I would like to bring some attention to the new "Titan Training Videos"

Personally, the videos look like they are shot at "max" settings, with some AA applied. This is based on a variety of effects I noticed which are only avaliable on max settings

(eg: dynamic lighting and shadows are on, the extra "console effects" above the consoles, the missle ploom when launched, texture quality)

First of all I would like to bring attention to the fact this video looks nothing like the screenshots. Good for sure, but lets be reasonable.

I am also frustrated that the dynamic shadows still seem to be "jaggy"

There are many parts of the video which depict this, so I don't need to post screen shots.

When I played the Beta at "max" I noticed jaggy shadows, hoping they would be fixed in retail.

This is a promotion video, so I if they COULD make them smooth, they would.

This unfortunatly proves my point that the screen shots released by EA do not depict actual in game graphics, and IMO falsely represent what the game is capable when it is played "in the real world".

Don't get me wrong, I think the graphics are great (minus the jaggies), but it annoys me when I see people saying "Wow, I wish I could play at those graphics" when they see the recent screen shots.

Hea, so do I but it just ain't possible

hmm, I wonder why this is. What in the new ati cards takes care of the pixilated shadows?
oh well. yeah it's not like your guns don't work or the game doesn't play. but it's ea, it shouldn't come to a surprise that they would pretty things up so you spend money on it, or ask dice to do that or however it works.

howeverthe demo or final game hasn't come out yet, so don't know for sure. the training video could just be from the beta

The "jagged shadows" issue is not limited to BF2 or 2142, I've seen the same exact issue with dynamic shadows in 2 other games. Also, it's been with my ATI x800 and my old 9700, so it's not an Nvidia specific issue either.

Since BF2 came out, I've seen the jaggies come and go intermittently in game, and they've also made an appearance in both 2142 betas for me. I obviously don't know the cause, but it's worth mentioning that no driver update over the past year has fixed it either.
