View Full Version : Titan Lag in Beta2

Hey guys I noticed something on just about every beta2 server I played on. If you moved the titan the server lag would go off the chart. This server side lag would last until the titan stopped moving. (It wasn't client side lag because all the players would start yelling in general chat to stop moving the titan) If there was bad enough Titan movement lag a server crash was usually soon to follow. If you were onboard the moving titan it really messed things up, your sentry gun and even your player model would jump around. I'm not too surprised at the lag as I know the Titan is one huge dynamic model that other entities such as players run around on.
However I noticed on a few servers that it was possible to move the titan and not cause this "titan" lag. I can't help but wonder if it was because the host server had extra CPU and memory resources to spare.
Does anyone know if the demo and release has solved this problem. I assume a ton of debugging was turned on for titan related bugs and issues in beta.
I guess the main question is does anyone know why some servers could handle the titans moving and others just crashed? Do you think we will see this in the full release? (hope not)

The beta lagged so much because it hadnt been optimised. It'll be fine in release, try the demo this thursday for ya self.

ouch that doesnt sound too good...I hope they have fixed it...It would be due to the clients free memory I guess...

Yeah I don't see how they could release it with that problem. I did not get to play Beta1, did beta1 have any titan lag issues? As far as the demo, heck yeah I'm remotely accessing my home PC and starting the demo download from work if need be.

"Wait and See"
I havent had a longer three days than when I was waiting for Oblivion...and that was ****!
I never had server lag, i had times when it just crashed... by times i mean, every 40 mins lol. I'd get more cpu lag when i was standing under a Titan, specifically the PAC titan... like it put me from 20 fps to 0.5fps :hmm:

I sure hope they fixed it, because moveing the titan is an important part of the game, for strategic puposes.

I never realised it was so important, I thought it was just a fun thing to be able to do if you have earnt the highest rank on the server...
how is it strategic?...is it better to put it near the other titan if your shields are up but theirs is down etc. (so that you can quickly board after spawning)

the titan guns can own infantry, so you put it by a missile silo you are trying to capture.

Titans near each other can board one another via the Titans escape pods, makes for easy unstopable Titan invasion. Also their guns can rain down constant death onto the ground, ensuring nobody can stay alive for long before your Titan. Also it acts as a 90,000 ton spawn point for vehicles etc.

Titan escape pods...thats a new concept for me...excellent...I hope their unlimited...
and a spawn point for vehicles...nice...
and ak1knight...to PWN infantry with it...I shall remember that!
you can tell Im new to this

Its noly because it wasnt optimised. They can only optimise it once everything has been fixed otherwise they would have to do it twice.
I asked this very question to Colin Clarke whilst playing with him in the beta and thats what he said.

Actually when the Titans go broad side with one another you often see the Titan pods launching from the sides at each other, it looks vaguely like some kind of futuristic sky battle of old warships from the seas, what with them smoke trails flying from one Titan to the other and them being broad side with one another. Kinda funny tbh.

I really do want the demo to be out  ...Ive ben looking at this game for about 2 weeks but Im totally hooked...64 players...future style...its the game I dream of!
((not REALLY dream of hehe...but its a cool concept being futuristic yet slightly realistic))

Once i flew between two titans pirating each other. I was hit by a few pods and i had to bail out lol.

Reload thanks for the info. I figured it was because they have a ton of debug logging turned on for the titan. I noticed ground battles were nice and smooth as that part of the game code was nice and clean.

Yeah it is. In Client 1 i loved launching out of APC's and landing on gunships, sometimes destroying them.
And Gatling762 if you have any other questions just ask again.

too bad you cant do that anymore...although its better that theres no pod hopping...that didnt sound too good for the game or teamwork...

Well you still can do, you either bail out of a gunship and use that pod or move the titans inot the main combat area.

All the lag was a server side issue, which according to the beta forums during the demo they had already came up with a fix that only servers had to download. But they said they were not updating beta 2 anymore..all the fixes were being applied to the demo and retail version.

Only thing I hope they fix is the support overheating issue. I know they will but maybe not enough or too much.

I was lead to believe that the lag was fixed...hardly had any in Beta 2. However I DID have constant connection losses.

Yeah Beta 2 was a very smooth experience with the exception of an the occasional Titan lag out. There two speeds of connection for me most of the time. Connected/Smooth and no connection at all.

It was never consistant for me, but when ever the server seriously lagged out, one or both titans was usually moving. I too have seen multiple places reference that the lag was fixed in the internal build before beta ended. I'd say the question has been answered.
On a side note, if you play on my server and board the enemy titan with a pod from your own, you are required to talk like a pirate while doing so...
"Avast thar ye scurvy dogs! I be boardin' yer vessel and sendin' ye ta meet yer maker!"
