IGN (www.ign.com) recently posted up a new interview with Karl-Magnus Troedsson, Senior Producer at DICE working on Battlefield: Bad Company, as well as updated the article with new weapon information. Take a look:

IGN: Let's say I go out and buy the standard edition for $59.99 and my buddy goes out and buys the Gold Edition for ten dollars more. What am I going to have to do to be able to play the same game with the same content as my buddy?

Karl-Magnus Troedsson: This is what the big confusion is about. I think we clarified what the other five weapons were. You have to do the marketing programs that we're going to announce further ahead. The last five Gold Edition weapons, this is where the confusion is and this is what we want to clarify. We are not charging for any guns that are out there. We read the forums, we read all of the articles and listening to the storm that is out there, we're not going to charge for any of those guns.

IGN: So there's no charge for the Gold Edition guns?

Karl-Magnus: No, there's no charge for any of the guns in the game. All of the guns in the game can be achieved without purchasing them. All guns are available to everyone. However, we want to give some exclusivity to those who buy the Gold Edition. They will get the five Gold Edition weapons from Day One when they put the disc in. People that don't buy the Gold Edition can get the five additional weapons by getting to the final rank in the game. There will be a golden, shiny five-weapon unlock when they hit level 25 in the game.

We've just learned the exact details behind the marketing campaigns that will be tied to the five weapons that are in neither the Gold nor Standard Edition of Bad Company. They are as follows:

Demo Unlock - Play either the Xbox 360 or PS3 demo and receive a weapon unlock.
Veteran Unlock - Register with the Battlefield Veterans program and receive a weapon unlock.
Website Unlock - A weapon is unlocked when you first check your stats on the Battlefield: Bad Company website.
Pre-order Unlock - A new sniper rifle is unlocked when you pre-order the game.
Newsletter Unlock - Sign up for the Battlefield newsletter and you'll get a new weapon.

If they start doing this with their upcoming titles on PC, they can stick em where the sun doesn't shine :salute:.

Ok, so let me get this straight...

If you buy the Gold Edition, you get the 5 guns from the start. With Standard Edition, you'll have to rank up to 25 and then you'll get the guns.

But what those "marketing campaign guns" are?

Wow this is rediculous...

Actually I don't think it's all that bad...

Right... The only bad thing is that it might take a long time to reach that rank.

But what those "marketing campaign guns" are?

That's the cool part.

Because it might take a while to rank (which nobody outside of EA probably knows yet... I think) it's cool that you don't have to wait till the game comes out in order to get at least a few of the "marketing campaign guns" as you call them. So basically just sign up for the newsletter, join the Beta (if you have a 360), join the veterans program, pre-order the game, and check your stats online after you play it for the first time.

It's all free except for the fact that you have to buy the game and an Xbox 360/Xbox Live if you don't have one or the other...

At least you don't have to pay to play... Now that was ridiculous and I'm very glad to hear that it was a misunderstanding... :p

I'm excited because I already received a code for the unlock M60 from joining the battlefield newsletter! Pretty sweet eh? :D

The way I see it, you can save money from not having to buy the Gold Edition and still get the five unlockable weapons right off the bat. The only downside is that I might still want to consider getting the Gold Edition because of some of the cool features it contains, which is actually not bad at all and probably helpful... ;)

No problem bro! ;)

That's the way to go and if you can come up with an 10 bucks for the Gold Edition then I'd definently buy that. If you've heard about some of the stuff that comes with the package - well, it sounds pretty cool. It comes with bonus things of course like behind the scenes, and even tips for playing online which would be helpful since that the gameplay should be, for the most part, different from the other games preceding in the battlefield series.

I'm considering it but I'm not sure yet... I also am debating whether I should preorder it... :hmm:

I just pre-ordered my Gold Version.. :D It's just 5€(8$) more expensive than the normal, so why not.. :D

Im just thinking how in earth i can handle all these games.. Since there is Bourne Conspiracy and MGS4(atleast) coming in the same month with BF:BC... :D

lol, yeah - I know how you feel... :|:

Just think of it as hours of fun! Unfortunately, for the most of us, time is against us and I barely have time. I'm not even going to get a chance to play Bad Company until after summer because I will be out of the country... :(

Therefore, that is my conflict with pre-ordering it...

But at the same time, all the more reason to join the BETA!! :D I'm going to get Xbox Live for the first time this weekend. I'm kind of looking forward to that... ;)

Im more worried about the impact the games are gonna make to my cash flow.. :D

I got time in the summer, im pretty sure about that. Except for weekends and few festivals...

But in your case, i would wait until you are back in the country, because im pretty sure that the prize has gone down atleast a bit.

And Beta is a good way to test the game out... But the downside to it is that there is gonna be bugs and other issues what will be breaking the gameplay...

lol, cash flow - good one! ;)

I know I should probably wait till after I get back but ugh... :dead: I really, really, really want to play the game ASAP! :yay:

But yeah, I'll get the Beta and see how it tastes like so far... ;)

I ain't joking with the cash flow thing...Think about it.

GTA 4 = 69.95€(111$)(comes out this month so it really doesn't count, i just mentioned it because im gonna get it)
BF:BC(Gold) = 69.95€(111$)
MGS4 = 69.95€(111$)
Bourne = 62.95(100$)

Total = 272.80€(433$)

Bourne, BF:BC and MSG4 comes within month. And i usually buy one game per month...

So i really need to figure out attack plan for June... ;)

I could buy Bourne before MSG4, and when im done with it, trade it out and with the cash gotten from it(and some from my wallet) i could buy MSG4.. :D

Well search the floor of some local stores, under the couch cushions, and whatever you have to do to come up with that money... :D

Thanks..

I can imagine the sight when im crawling under furniture looking for $$

But i think i will buy that Bourne thing later on, since it's not that important for me. But BF:BC and MGS4(the online comes with it) is...

And what i have heard, Bourne has only SP(with some sweet fighting scenes). So i can buy it later on with lower prize...

Guess what? I just got my Xbox Live working and then I go to the IGN site to get a code for the Bad Company Beta and they're all GONE! NOOOOOOOOOOO! :shakehead: But I can't believe I though they'd still have any more either, heck! They must've been out for a while now.

Well if you can afford a 360, you're not that poor I suppose... I'm glad you liked my suggestion, but if your not willing to do that, just get a job at Taco Bell and throughout the course of one week, you'll have enough *Bling Bling* for sure! ;)

We don't have any Taco Bell's here in Finland.. :( But we do have McDonald's.. :D

But im prolly gonna skip the McDonalds thing, and scrape the cash from somewhere...

And i have PS3 btw.. :icon_thumbsup:

And what comes to MGS4... You have Xbox, so that explains why you don't know what it is. It's playstation exclusive.. ;)

Hmph! Metal Gear Solid eh? Well, I prefer Splinter Cell.

I'd like to eventually pick up a PS3, because of Killzone 2 and HAZE... Those two are really impressive looking games, but of course - you can't blow up **** like you can in Bad Company... ;)

Hell Yeah!

Well as far as graphics, MGS4 looks very similar to what Ubisoft has done with Splinter Cell in their latest release: Double Agent. But as far as possibilities, there looks like there is a ton more stuff to do in MGS4 than you can in all the Splinter Cells put together. I like how you can use your surroundings more and all that but... :|: It still doesn't appeal to me... I dunno. I guess I'm going to have to try it out eventually.

Although it looks cool, I still prefer and enjoy the entire Splinter Cell series more, because of the amazing story, gameplay, graphics, and realism. (OMG it's awsome!!!) But since I've never played any game in the Metal Gear Solid series, I can't say if it's better or worse.

Although MSG might be pretty cool, I still think Snake, in MSG, looks like a mix between a pirate and hippie - it kind of ruins it for me. :dead:

Sam Fisher is my hero! :D

I have played Splinter Cell's before... And i prefer Metal Gear Solid...

The Double Agent looks good, but ubisoft messed the PC version soo bad, that it would have been better not to release it at all... :shakehead:

And in that video what i posted, it's from the upcoming MGS. And the main charater Solid Snake has gotten old already...

There has been lot of little things in previous MGS's that makes the game even better. For example, you could hide in a closet, some of them had semi nude pic in them. And when you crouch and press a button, Solid kisses the pic. Cardboard boxes, you can hide from enemy in one, Solid smokes cigars to reveal lasers, and so on...

But im not saying that Splinter Cell has been bad in the past. The Double Agent for PC was just bad.

Speaking of SC, im looking foward to Conviction to come out. Maybe i'll get that one for PS3...

Yeah, I guess it sucked really bad... I wonder why they released a PC version anyway... :|: What is really sucky is that there is two versions for Splinter Cell: DA, and the the version for the 360, which I have, was produced by Ubisoft Shanghai, and they did not incorporate any form of multiplayer in the game at all... :( While Ubisoft Montreal who did the other version (not for 360 or PS3) did...

...But on the BACK of the box for the 360 and PS3 version, it says that up to 3 people can play on one console which is BS!!! WTF?!? Of course, that is not true... AT ALL!

They also added bots! BOTS?!? I'd rather play online without bots, or even with my brother against bots on the same console, but NO - just bots... :shakehead: Hmph... Other than that, or course it's a really sweet game! :D

This was the first time i saw online part of the game that dead...

I mean there wasn't even any signs of other players been there... No servers, no leaderboards, no clans, no nothing...

I was just considering to buy SC: DA for PC as it 's the only part I never got to play from the PC series. I don't remember why exactly but I think you guys just refreshed my memory.

Ever since Ubisoft started to focus on the console, every single game they ported to PC got messed up... a real shame cause they were my favourite dev.

I think Ubi made great job with RainBow Six Vegas/Vegas 2... But making SC basically only for consoles, and not include MP to it(console version) it's just showing bad decision making from their part...

Raven Shield was the best Rainbow Six ever and Vegas was (to me) just another run & gun arcade shooter. Other than that, the graphics weren't optimized for PC (no AA) and the AI was more annoying then ever.

I also heard a lot of complaints about the PC version of Assassins Creed... another port with a lot of unhappy customers.

I liked Vegas and Vegas 2... The graphics looks good, the story was good, the tactics you could use was awesome(rappeling down a wall and breach in from the window) and the back to wall shooting was awesome..

Only complaints i have read about Assassins Creed has been either Crashes(what in 80% of the cases i read was because of hardware they have in their PC), high system requirements(ie Can i run this?) and lastly freezin when entering Jerusalem(what is because they have the leaked version)...

But don't get me wrong, it could be that im looking at the wrong forum(Gamespot's). That's why i don't know about the problems with it..

So still for me, the only bad port has been the Splinter Cell Double Agent...
