i bought a 7600gs 256mb for my old rig..it has passive cooling.(45c when i launch the pc 60-65 when idle after 30 minutes-70-76c after playing bf2 for a lnog time)
my mobo can run it with agp4x bus speed only.
my specs are 2 gigs of RAM 266mhz
intel p4 2.4 ghz titan
mobo=ga-8ir2003
and gigabyte geforce 7600gs agp 4-8x 256mb

i am getting unstable fps in bf2 with
geometry high
effects high
terrain medium
texture medium
and all others low expect sight 100%

fps in game= 28-35-48-56-72-80
changes like every 2 seconds

doesnt give me a troubling laggy gameplay but still it has an effect.
would like to know why?

i meant unstable FPS BTW not PING

have you ended all programs before playing bf2? virus scanner, firewall, any downloads will lag you. also upgrading your video card from agp to pci will help out also. and at least 2 gig of memory.

An unstable ping leads to unstable FPS...

Fix the ping and you might fix the FPS.

you're getting unstable fps because you you should be setting most of your stuff on low. Maybe some medium, but really low dude. P4... 7600... come on.
yeah low and 1024x768.. at max.

sure you can look at the beach and get 70fps.

Look at some buildings, people, maybe a little action, its all a lot harder to render so yeah your system will bog down a lot, instantly.
