View Full Version : Titan mode is amazing when played correctly.

After many many Titan games, I finally played a really good one.

What I mean by "played correctly" is when the Titan shields go down, some fall back to the Titan, some stay and get silos, and some attack the other Titan.

This gameplay mode was a good idea in theory, and when the theory is actually fleshed out, you get a much greater experience than just another version of conquest.

The choke points on the Titan are awesome. When you have a squad attacking, and a squad defending, these stand-offs can be quite intense. Of course, we don't have grenades yet or defibs, so that will bring in another dynamic.

The fighting on the Titan is close quarters while fighting on the ground in Sidi is more vehicle oriented. This mode was supposed to give you the best of both worlds, vehicle and infantry. And it does, although there is a big problem.

People seem to ignore the Titan when the shields go down.

We have been so programmed to capture points until the end of the map that we forget about the Titan completely. Sure, people remember to attack the other Titan, but almost everyone forgets to defend.

For instance, tonight, I was on a team that got on the other teams Titan first. We got all but 1 console, and a whole squad defended it. It slowed us down dramatically. Meanwhile, the other team was coming back fast, boarded our Titan unrestricted until I decided to defend for once.

I was able to hold our last console by myself for a good 4-5 minutes with a heavy machine gun. We barely won, but if it hadn't been for me, their defenses would have kept us at bay, and their attackers would have destroyed us.

I think when the game goes retail and people get used to the mode, it will become much better. People will start to consider the awesome use of the Titan's underbelly guns and the Titan pods which will force the commander to make strategic positioning decisions.

Also, when the game goes retail, more people will defend, because that is the key. A good defense can turn the tide quickly. But it seems like 80% of all my games, I and others have destroyed the consoles and core without opposition.

So, DEFEND those Titans. When you get into a game in which all of these new gameplay additions go into effect, you get a very different experience than just plain jane conquest.

Once you get into your first good fight on a Titan, you will finally realize this game isn't a shoddy mod.

However, one thing I wished they would have added to Titan mode is bigger Titans with Titan-to-Titan guns. I would loved to have seen great battles between the Titans in the air while fighting on the ground. Not only would have been epic to watch that going on above you, it would have added a new strategy to defeat the enemy Titan.

Whew, that was long, but I think it's time for this game to be getting a little more credit for being a new, stand-alone good game with plenty of new features. Frankly, if you liked BF2, I have no idea why you wouldn't like this game.

It's late, disregard typos and sentences that might not make any sense.

Totally agree. A good squad was defending Console 2 when we were attacking their Titan. Our Titan still had 50% of shields at that time. Masses and masses of our team would charge into the corridor leading to the console with all guns blazing; and we'd all get killed every time.

They managed to take our shields down and board our Titan by the time we got rid of the squad defending Console 2. Luckily, Console 4 was not defended and we rushed to the Reactor Core, only to have the same squad come in and mow us down; again ...

Luckily they didn't hold for long because we suddenly got an influx of people boarding their Titan. We destroyed their core first but it was a very close match; our Titan was down to only 25% Hull. If they had a better assault team on our Titan, we could have lost the round completely.

All in all, a good defence of the Titan can change the entire battle. (I have seen the other team actually lose before.)

Great post and I agree 100% s well.

I have played rounds where none falls back to defend the Titan, and I have played rounds where ppl have done their part, followed commanders order, and have had real close matches where Titan's panels have been destroyed on both titans and it have been a real close race until the finish line.

Probably, the corridor fighting will be "different" when ppl start throwing in grenades, but then again, we have the defibs. Can be interesting and probably very very intence. Looking forward to the retail version

Why? Just curious

Love titain mode. Having an objective is better, than chasing CP all over the map.

For those that say " Well you chase the missile salos" Yes we do, but at least we know getting the salos is more damage to the Titain.

I agree with you 100%... case in point:

My clan has been playing since early beta and we took a liking to Titan mode instantly.. (conquest? whats that?)

Early on it was identified that titan defense is CRUCIAL. When unlocks are incorporated it will be much harder to defend (nades, defib, expacks, spawn beacons all help attack and defend) but as it stands right now... defense is a bit unbalenced.

Just tonight we were playing, our shields went down fast... the other team was capping much more effectivly than we were. Our shields were dropped at while thiers was at 50% (take note of what happened in regards to thier team dynamics)

With ours down so fast, MOST of them decided to assault our titan... my squad did something we dont usually do.. we split up. Myself and one other went to defend (with support guns of course) while the remaining 4 went to snag silos (which were for the most part underdefended/unmanned totally)

Onboard the titan, myself and my other squad member held opposite corridors while the commander would alternatly be dropping health to each of us as needed and ran UAV's on site so we knew where/when they would be coming...

It was brutal... I almost felt bad for the attacking team... getting mowed down every time you took a step past the cargo bay has got to be frustrating...

Meanwhile my squad capped 4 of 5 points... the shield dropped and then it got really bad...

Squad flew to titan, left a transport on the deck and Leader got in a safe position so they could spawn if members died...

3 members then stormed the titan... virtually unopposed... the few that tried to stop them were greeted by a support gun while engineers rocketed the consoles...within minutes the reactor room was breached.

Once that happend, (and with 4 consoles intact) the two defenders (me and the other member) Suicided, went engineer and spawned on squad leader...

the core was toast in what seemed like a minute or less... squad leader jumped in trans to pilot, and the rest of us hopped in and flew away... very satisfied...

Defense is KEY to winning... but it is fluid as well... only with experience will the real tactics get formed but even in this crippled state it is amazing...

cant wait for full version

lol, I spent quite a few minute typing that.. and see lots like my own... "totally agree/100% agree"

the game has so much potential for team play... tons more than bf2 imo... (although at the time, that was amazing too)

I agree...the TITAN mode is amazing if you have a teamt that know how to work together on titan mode....i played some good titan games on the beta an they were totally amazing...but i usually play with stupid people that the only thing they do is wait for taking a mech or run around the map playing the same way like conquest mode....people...if titan shields are down...means that some people should go to the titan for trying destroy it from inside....

i actualy have won some rounds even tho our sheild was at 0 when theirs ws still at around 50% by just defending while we on the ground take all the silos and then rush in to destroy the consoles

Just you guys wait until the full game with unlocks. Personal defense shields in the hallways beside sentry guns can make storming those control panel rooms near damn impossible. Eveybody defibbing everyone.. C4 going off and taking out half the people on that side of the titan... Wooo.. Storming/Defending the is what will make your points jump up sky high.

I almost wrote a big long "omfg this one time...." but I realized its more fun reading the "best round ever" titan stories you guys are having. :)

Just cant wait to get into full release game with you guys.

Isn't everything fun when played correctly!

Its all the smacktards on the net the f everything up, but then again 2142 blows even without the smacktards.

Titan mode is perfect with the correct team. However, from the release of the demo the number of Titan Mode servers has gone down a lot imo. I see more conquest all the time :(

People seem to ignore the Titan when the shields go down.

That is abig problem:cry:

I was playing early this morning in a full 48 man server most were working great as ateam getting the silos but when the enemy titan shields was down most of the enemy flocked to there titan to defend:eek:

So i got a APC parked up and got on to the the enmy titan assuming some of my team would be there but low and behold no 1 was there as soon as i got in the corridors all hell broke loose:hmm:

Just lonly old me taking on nearly 24 of there players so i layed down and tryed holding them off till team mates arrived:|: about 10 mins past and still no team mates and then i died:D

Any way in the end it took me and only me 30 odd minutes from bording the titan the 1st time to desroying the i titan:evil:

I had the best score i have seen also which was 98 points 56 kills;)

100% disagree

in beta:

5 defending titan, all in squad

squad leader in neutral point to provide support (IE med kit)

2 teams of 2 in each corridor...one a spec ops with assualt gun unlock and expacks... the other a support gunner

each corridor was set with 2 expacks...about midway to the console spec ops guy waited behind glass near console and can vis down the hallway

support gunner drops a ammo box and hold pos near the console behind a semi wall in kneeling position...

if the gunner was somehow killed, spec would wait until enemy was midway through hallway.. then blow it... after detonation, take position that suppost was in until he got there...

wash rinse repeat...

you tell me where that kind of inginuity can be incorportated in any other game...

I personally love defending the Titan as its my kind of tactics - Sit and wait :P At the moment due to no grenades or whatever else the defenders can hold amazingly well against a non stop attack but its all great fun. I'm almost dissapointed when I am attacking a Titan and no one tries to stop me.

I think titan mode will be more intence with unlocks, defibs will change everything.

I love Titan mode, I can't understand why some people don't like it. I'm kindof tired of conquest and Titan is a refreshing new game mode. I love the thrill of shooting onto the enemy titan from the pods in the APC, then rushing through the corridors (and usually getting gunned down :D) but since there will be defibs in the full version that won't be such a problem lol. HOwever, when the team does get to the reactor room it's so awesome as we shoot the reactor, then jump off the Titan as it explodes. So cool :D

Im sorry DICE but you guys created to good of a mode. It surpasses conquest in everyway on this map. It's just so much more fun. More teamwork and everyone has the same objective.

Great Job:banana:

In the demo, you can easily defend the titan with about 4 guys...2 on the AA guns that also switch to the underside guns to watch for apc's, and two others strategically placed at choke points overlooking the console the other team must destroy next. The retail version will change all this with the addition of grenades. I'm looking forward to some long, drawn-out battles on the Titan once retail hits.

I'm glad you guys see it my way! I was just so sick and tired of all the negative nancys that bash this game just because it isn't 100% like BF2, or because it's 50% like BF2.

Now, I don't fault other players for not seeing the game for what it really is based on the demo, I played the beta and know what it's really like, I just hope they see posts like these and will give BF2142 another shot in retail.

What would really be cool is a "tip box" that comes up when certain things happen.

I'm not talking about the hints box that comes up for tutorial things... that one is too subtle and not really part of the HUD.

It would be cool if there was an awesome-looking screen that beeps and bleeps and flickers at the top right whenever certain objectives are taken and gives you tips on what to do in order to "direct traffic" ... ie ...

"Your Titan Shield is down and you only have 2 soldiers defending it!" (It will check if your shield is down and how many players you have in or team as opposed to how many players are on the Titan)

... wait until you coordinate a corridor assault with smoke grenades an optical camo! Fun stuff.

The size of the titan inside could be bigger IMO. I was expecting something like Iron Gator from SF.

I've also played very little titan mode in the demo. Every time I do, I find Support far too dominating with their much improved overheat/accuracy cycle.

The much maligned smoke grenade from BF2 is now an important part of any titan breaching strategy against entrenched defenders. Plus it will only take a few games for the dedicated Assault guys to learn the range to the console and the end of the hall for their rifle rockets. Then they can have them pre-set before stepping out just long enough to launch down the hall.

I could go on, but titan mode will be a completely different animal in retail.

Actually I love that about support. In order to have decent aim, you need to stand still for while -- unlike in BF2 where you drop to the ground and get your aim aligned in half a second.

The biggest thing is that support rarely kills on the first burst. The random deviation causes the bullets to fly everywhere so if you don't take cover quickly you'll get cut down -- as it should be.

I think personally that engineers should be able to repair consoles, or even the reactor, that way if a team is getting the beat down they have a way of getting back.

Titan games would last alot longer then.

****ing love Titan mode, was playing earlier when we spent half an hour defending one bloody panel lol, 5 man squad, gave our team enough team to get the silos back and knock the other titans shield down. I have to say, Dice have redeemed themselves.

I love playing the Titan mode when im on a good server with a good winning team. Theres nothing like storming the enemy Titan with bodys falling to the ground around you, running into the halls to do the objectives, people yelling medic as you destroy the last objective to get to the core, and bullets flying past you everywhere. Then you run with your squad and others to destory the Core with a huge firefight and bullets wiz past you. You then run out of the Titan with ppl screaming, only to jump off the enemy Titan and parachuting down with a big, huge explosion. :D

Just picturing that makes me want to go play some more now, I think I will. I can't wait to buy this game! I don't see why everyone is complaining about this and that. Im 100% fine with the way this game is when you are on a good server. :p Great job Dice and EA, there are bugs that must be fixed but that what patches are for.

Titan mode is better than I could ever have imagined. Some of the firefights are so intense!

My preferred role is defending my own Titan. If you have 2-3 of you in the reactor room defending the core, there is many a kill to be had. You can make it almost impossible for the other team to get into that room. I imagine the unlocks in retail will change this, adding extra dimensions to Titan battles.

Excellent stuff, I'm completely hooked! This game is shaping up to be 10x as good as BF2 was.

Titan Mode rox, i have played more Titan mode in the demo BF2142, than i have conquest in BF2, well maybe not that much but i really like it.
