Hey all

I was disappointed by the demo, pi**ed off at EA and Dice for the stupid patch malarky and generally feeling pretty bored of the whole BF saga and idsinterested in BF2142.

I played the 2142 beta and was pretty underwhelmed but couldn't resist pre-ordering and I've been playing the demo for a few days now. And..

It just gets better and better. Really good weapons, great vehicles, fantastic sounds, superb atmosphere. The server browser is fast, buddies are (finally!) supported and map loading times are really fast and performance is pretty good in general. I'm not really into Titan, sticking with conquest but the more I play the more I like it. I found it a little hard to get in to at first but once you get the "feel" of things it's brilliant. I keep finding myself stopping and just watching - tracer fire, walkers, player movement, it just looks great.

I had a general feeling that this was just a futuristic BF2 and that was pretty well it but it just feels like a completely different game, a vaguely similar look but that's about it.

I'm struggling to find something to criticise to be honest, it just feels so damn slick.

I was complaining before about the slow feeling player movement but I've completely forgotten about it so it seems it's something you just get used to.

I think my only slight disappointment is with the maps. I like wide open bright water maps like Wake, Gulf Of Oman and Dalian Plant and there don't seem to be maps like that in 2142 which seems to be a bit of a shame as far as I'm concerned. Another minor niggle is the player movement sometimes feels a bit unnatural, sort of jerky and odd especially when going doown stairs. A minor point though.

However, despite that, it great fun and we've not even to to play with the unlocks yet. I'm very pleasantly suprised and I'm really looking forward to the release.

Of course this could come back and bite me. The in-game ads could ruin it, the rest of the maps could be pretty dull, there might be stupid exploits or bugs that have slipped through the net, who knows? Anyway, enough blathering, I'm wasting valuable 2142 time here :-)

Nice read. I totally agree with you about the lack of coastal maps. I think that if you look on the site you can see that a few of the maps are near the water but to me im guessing that on most of those maps the focus will be on what is on land, not on the coast (like Karkand)

My favourite map of all time in any game is Wake Island. I am hoping that there is a standout map in this game but without any real coastal maps, im starting to doubt that.

I am buying Bf2142 now that i have played the demo though. It really is a fun game to play once you start to get the hang of it. Im less frustrated with it aswell, it's an even playing ground on the demo map, hopfully it is the same on other maps because to me that is one of the aspects that has made Bf2142 really pleasant to play today.

Hope to see you on the Battlefield Kurt :)

Agreed! The game really owns once you get into it. I can't imagine getting bored of it any time soon.

I am really enjoying the gdemo alot:D

Everything is great and i love it alot i like it that much that i found myself rushing round tesco doing my shopping just so i could get back and play:eek:

I find myself just standing there as well just watching mechs fighting mechs and infantry and standing in the middle of a orbital strike is awsome lol:laugh:

I have a few annoyances while playing but most of it is down to my comp which will be upgraded before retail release;)

Conclusion demo is great and when we can get those unlocks this game will be tottaly awsome:evil:

Its rather good than bad, but its not good enough. at least not as good as BF2 was/is. I wasnt blown away with BF2142, but I was defintely shocked by BF2.

Titan mode feels like playing Onslaught in UT2004 with the English voices from Enemy Territory.

I still have an issue in when looking around with the mouse the screen is very jittery yet keyboard movement is perfectly smooth.
I have the same in BF2 and I just can't seem to solve it yet I have lots of other games requiring mouse look and all are smooth (or I'd look to a hardware fault).

I find the short sprint just too short and the walk speed too slow to be frustrating at times - it was a breath of freah air playing PoE 2.
I do like the way health and ammo is handled now with a box dropoff (a mobile version of BF1942 style) and the drop pods are great.

Yeah it does seem a lot better from the first time i played it, just seems like i've got used to the style from BF2, dont expect nade launchers at every corner and G36E whores always putting bullets in my ***, i think this game is going to be awesome, EA, I love you :D

From what I've played on the demo (before it disconnects me) it does indeed feel a lot more solid than the beta (which is naturally to be expected).

I would love to play more but the disconnecting thing is really putting a downer on the game :(

So far so good for me.. its hard getting used to identifying enemies for me though.. lol.. ive stood right next to guys forever just looking at them and then something clicks and we both start firing.

it definately has a UT2k4 feel to it though.

I thought that too, plus has anyone noticed the login screen background music sounds very much like RTCW?

I just cant wait to get the unlocks. I was concern about the recoil of the assaults gun, but i tryied it with single shot and it's amazing, much better than the FN2000 !!!!

I agree, I just hope they fix some of the minor things in the retail fast.

I beta tested the game and I can safely say that the gameplay and fun-factor of the demo is just 1/4 of what the full product will offer.

Recon stealth+sneaking+sniping+demolitions possibilities or Support defensive camping potential with turrets+shield in high places or the anti-armor/Air engineer or the accurate medic/assault combined with leader's unlocks to keep the pressure on and on....I can't wait to exploit all potential combinations! (in the positive way;) )

Expect a LOT more of teamwork and ppl sticking to the squad and leader listening to commander while commander doing a better job because ALL them will get more points (the bonuses) if they give and/or follow orders.

why do you love EA, DICE made the game. If it wasn't for EA the game could of been even better.

The demo only sucked as there were no unlocks other than that it was ok , i just wish they put a few boat or more tanks or somthing into the game

QFT

EA rushed the game like BF2.

Expect a patch in less than a month.

I think this is best BF edition to date :)

Next to all obvious polishing they did to the engine and lobby its finaly set in Sci-Fi universe!!!

For me this plays huge importance...

No offence to anyone, but i really do NOT feel like playing American in BF2 and for that matter i really dont feel like playing MEC and China either... In all honesty i dont know who SUX more in real life and i cant "feel" with either faction...

However, with 2142 my imersion factor is MILES bigger since its fictional stuff set in the future - it works miles better for me in every possible aspect!!!

2142 FTW!!!
