yay i'm half way there! about 4k more kills

this is a crazy award for the non-gunship whores. respect to all who have this medal. i probably won't make it to 8k but i reached my goal of getting to half way.

lol :p

Mr.Kaizer (my soldier) is about halfway there, with only around 67 hours... Then again, I am a gunship whore xD

nice, how long did it took you too get there?

Judging by his Pic, 137 hours...

If you were talking about me, I meant to say 67 AIRCRAFT hours played. I probably have a good 400+ hours total on this soldier.

bah i didnt took attention to the hours lol only the kills :P

I'm at about the same now with the walker............but of course it's a little easier to get your hands on a walker when Tampa spawns them at 3 silos! :D

I dunno if I will ever get that one. I stink at flying. I strafe armor but cant take them out i one strafe like a good airship pilot. I crash a lot and almost lose every dogfight unless i get them by suprise hehe. It tends to hurt the K/D ratio after awhile. I am not bad at armor but the good gunship pilots get real annoying when they constantly take you armor out hehe to each to his own i guess.

That's also my goal too. Only problem is I'm only at ~1700 kills.

I'm pretty good for only those kills though. Anybody with 8000+ kills in a gunships needs to be respected as he's probably really good with em. (Unless it's another cheap Talon *cough* J10 *cough* whore)

yeah i'm pretty bad with gunships too especially when i'm flying a doragon, you're pretty much toast against any half decent talon pilot. i can sometimes take out armor in one run but these days everyone has their shields up before i destroy them. i still can't out manuver against another gunship on my tail, it's very hard to do it with the mouse and keyboard. i've gotten a lot of kills with transports parking near flags/silos though. :D

Fingulfin

"it's very hard to do it with the mouse and keyboard."
No its not... I use a mouse and keyboard and I can beat around 95% of the enemy pilots I encounter xD Once you learn how to fly backwards, getting shot down happens alot less often.

Do you mean flying backwards as in hovering and pulling the nose up or something else?

Fingulfin
05-20-2008, 06:05 PM
No... As in turning yourself either upside down or front side up, then flying backwards. You achieve massive speeds and great altitude gains very quickly this way. HOWEVER its very, VERY easy to lose control and go hurtling toward the ground. IMO, the epitome of gunship skill is a) to solo and b) to know how to fly backwards properly.

Hmm, I'll never get that probably, I suck in a gunship.

So the fastest thing would be Transport of Dooming with the crew, but that takes some time as well.

Nothing, we're =L13=... Flying comes to us naturally :p

j/k. Theres nothing truly "hard" about it once you have practiced it, but I'm sure you remember when we were gunship n00bs... It was hard to ksimply keep the thing upright xD

Keep practicing, it will come to ya ;) I personally learned by watching my clan mates (particularly "Holla4adolla", former #2 with da gunship), then trying to replicate their stuff in local mode.

Minmaster
05-21-2008, 04:59 AM
interesting point about practicing local. perhaps i'll give it a try. i've been able to fly backwards on few occasions but not intentionally. i somehow end up that way and i go wow thats cool and in no time i end up crashing!

Bradley
05-21-2008, 05:46 AM
I just fly high and come in straight on the talon, then swoop up under him or something of the sort. But is the backwards thing an evasive manoeuver or a just a different way to fly ?

Fingulfin
05-21-2008, 06:16 AM
Evasive manuver and/or faster travel. If you need to get somewhere (or AWAY from somewhere) quick, thats what you want.

woot, i had an awesome round today as a gunner with a great pilot. it's crazy how many easy kills you can get when your pilot is constantly giving you good looks. too bad these type of players are hard to find and i'm usually the one flying myself.

You can rack up quite a score with a good pilot. I once got up to like 70 points in half a round of suez because I was gunning for a really good pilot.

Minmaster
07-12-2008, 07:51 AM
i guess it's not whether the pilot is "good", but whether he's willing to give you the looks. meaning he will hover for you to pick off infantry or line you up for TV missile shots, things like that. it probably means sacrificing his score a bit and also taking bigger risks. the gunner however has to be decent himself so that the pilot can trust him. countless times i hover at a silo so that gunner can pick off the infantry only to have him fiddle with the TV missile and get shot down by a pilum.

and then there are pilots who fly so fast and twist and turn so often that you can never get a shot off at anything. they're more into showing off their manuverability skills rather than working as a team, trying to fly under or between every structure and even getting us killed in doing so.

CTFalcon

If the gunner is solid with the TV i'd much rather him take out infantry while we're moving with the TV, that way I don't have to wait for him to get the gun kill. Some gunners are pretty quick with the gun, but even with them I have to focus on what they're doing rather than what I should be doing, so I much prefer my gunners to use the TV for all targets.

Field

hey does changing aircraft sensitivity in the options actually change the TV missle sensitivity too? or no?

i'm going to have to disagree with you there. unless you are TV missiling infantry from far away, it's much easier to pick off infantry with the chain gun. if there are 5 infantry soldiers around a silo trying to cap it or defend it, how would it be more effective with the missile? you can easily pick them off with the chain gun which gets into the nooks and crannies and has crazy splash damage. the missile on the other hand has to be guided, reloaded, all the while limiting your field of view. the chain gun was made to shred up infantry like there's no tomorrow, and i don't see how the TV missile is better at that.

hey does changing aircraft sensitivity in the options actually change the TV missle sensitivity too? or no?

i've heard that's actually controlled by land vehicle sensitivity. not 100% positive though.

TV Missile is bound to INFANTRY controls.

CTFalcon
07-13-2008, 03:03 PM
I'm not talking about the ease of use of gun vs. TV missile, I'm talking from a pilot's standpoint it makes my job easier if you use the TV missile rather than having me stay close to a silo to use the gun.

As to TV sensitivity, it's controlled by your land vehicle sensitivity.

Chris--My--azz

Thats weird, because TV Controls (mouse-movement) is controlled by your infantry controls...

yeah, maybe from the pilot's standpoint, but it's still not very effective to battle infantry with TV. the gunship is going to stay out of harm's way more but you guys won't be piling up as many kills.

Well I figure I'm doing a better job if I can stay in the air longer rather than get knocked down waiting for my gunner to mop up some infantry kills, difference of opinions I guess.

hehe well that's because you're a pilot. but i'm speaking from the standpoint of the gunner needing to get a lot of kills...cheaply... (so that i can finally get my medal). :D

that means i'd rather be 50-5 than be 35-0 in a round.

you're either a pilot for yourself or pilot for the gunner, hard to be both i guess.

Fly Solo and not worry about a gunner at all?

If you want a real challenge, teach yourself to use the gunner CHAINGUN while flying. Its hard (sorta...) to learn, but you can save yourself a bunch of TVs with it :p

I've been doing that recently, agreed, is difficult given you have to lead the bullets and compensate for your falling, but if you get a good angle of approach given a bit of luck and accuracy you can be a bit devastating :D

CTFalcon
07-14-2008, 03:45 AM
Well if kill farming is your goal I recommend learning how to solo lol. But if you want to be a successful gunship team then you should work with your pilot to keep yourselves alive.

i know of couple other people in the club from this forum (ghib, metalman), but i'm sure there are many more. i did notice a lot of people are held back by the AA gold badge, which is probably the most difficult award to get.
