OK. Maybe I'm just stupid, but I assume that the orbital strike consists of moving the Titan to a strategic location, manning a turret and blowing stuff on the ground up.

So last night I was on a server with no commander elected. I gladly took the roll. At which time I began the gambit of dumping supplies, EMP, UAV, and all that. I also attempted moving the Titan to a silo to rain fire down on the enemy. This takes a long time to accomplish. Am I missing something? However, it is very rewarding to drop artillary on an unsuspecting tank, and watch the gunner pan the horizon looking for their attacker, finding the Titan above them and trying to shoot it down. Anyway, has anybody else tried this tactic? If you have, how succesful were you? Am I wasting my time?

Orbital strike is Conquest mode only, as the Titan cannons replace Orbital strike in Titan mode. Orbital strike is a extended fast barrage fired from orbit used by the commander, quite nice actually. More of an area denail weapon then a kill everything weapon though. Good area of effect.

On a side note, was this idea stolen from Planetside or were orbital strikes used in other games to begin with. (Noting that an OS is not a carpet bombing run but a single strike in one location).

It seems pretty logical and regardless of whether Planetside had it in it, its just a sci-fi weapon of sorts used in multiple games, though not many FPS i guess. Then again even if it was directly inspired from PS i couldn't care less :p

I like the orbital strike in this game, i was annoying a gunship like mad with it last night, he could cap a single base :p

If you move your Titan early, you can dominate three silos with it. Your team can rain rapid destruction from above, the top turrets dominate the skies, and the launch pods can easily deploy teammates to attack and defend silos in range.

Downsides:
A) It takes a while to move,
B) Most players know by now where the artillery from God is coming from
C) It makes your Titan more vulnerable to bording when your shields fail.

If my Titan's shields are under 25% and the enemy Titan's shields aren't down yet, I start moving it to the edge of the map to protect against APCs and to give the turrets a better chance at blasting incoming air assets. If the enemy Titan shields are down, I go for ramming speed, so my team can use the pods to launch right over, while the turrets blast anything leaving their hangar.

(Edit: By 'ramming speed' I mean very slow crawl directly at the enemy Titan)

The only reason i ask is because the name is also identical. I mean they could have brainstormed a new name for it.. Like Sat Strike, Heavens Finger of Phuckerizing or something.

"Orbital strike" or "Orbital bombardment" are standard terms in sci-fi, whether it be books, films or game.

No need to reinvent the wheel :)

Orbital Strike sounds menacing. I think its a good choice, and it sounds intimidating enough.

Looks to me thats not all they took from planetside..the dropships look like those in PS, the cloak idea, the fighter plane things look like those in PS, walkers look alot like those in PS and so does the hovertank.
ot that i mind though...i loved PS, just quit cuz in PS the walkers where WAY overpowered.

Orbital Bombardment? I used to call those in via a Probe Droid in the first SWBF...

Orbital strike is on conquest and it functions like artillary.
