View Full Version : Launch Pods: An Accidental Weapon

Those of you who wondered if launch pods can take out enemy infantry, no longer have to worry. Indeed they do. Actually, there much more powerful then that.
A new round of conquest opened and I quickly spawned as an engineer on the EU side. Everyone started rushing for the vehicles. Knowing I had no chance of getting my own, I jumped in an APC as it sped by. I am well aware that seat 3 and up in the APC are the launchs pods, but for some reason, I right clicked away, just a few metres outside our main base. The round had just started so everyone was rushing for the flags. As I went up and gazed down at the sworming army I wondering if I was going to hit anyone.
Well, it didnt take long for that question to be answered. My pod on its descent to the ground bounced off a flying transport ship with several teammates in it, giving me team vehicle damage. 2 seconds later I safely landed on the ground, and looked up for the transport I had hit. There it was, flaming, nose diving towards the ground. Just before it crashed into the water, it exploded, giving me a number of teamkills.....all punished. I was kicked, and banned.
So, next time you accidently launch yourself from a pod, make sure you dont hit any flying objects. Unless its your enemies, in which case, go for the kill!!

I killed my whole squad on the Titan when i did this. I told them to stick with each other until i come so we could all go in there,i landed DIRECTLY in the middle of the circle they had made and the impact blasted 3 of the 6 squadmates OFF the titan roof, they died. The other 3 saw me beforehand and moved away.
It was really funny.

Its gonna be fun pod stunting onto and into the transports on friendly fire... What I want to know though is what happens if two pods collide mid-air.

I was on the other end of a similar situation last night. Was flying the transport and had just managed to land on the back of the enemy titan making probably my best landing yet, when a teammate manages to land right on top of me in a pod.
Laughed quite hard and forgave him since I knew it was an accident. Luckily I was the only one in the transport so he only got one teamkill out of it.

Yes I have hit infantry with my pod although I wish it was a "pod" kill it was just "killed"
Unfortunately right after I did this an enemy sniper (who was right beside me) looked at me straight in the face puzzled and blew my head off after a second!
LOL
I had been sniping from a rooftop when someone snuck up on me and knifed me. Lucky for me, my titan was nearby, so i spawn on it, got on a pod, and launched back towards my rooftop. The guy had taken my kit and had already laid prone, so it was easy to position the pod onto him... Wasn't as satisfying as taking his dogtags, but fun anyway :-)

I did the APC thing as well, near silo four my PAC was about to take its final hit from a hover tank. I got into 3rd posiniton and launched my pod only to hit a friendly transport copter with 5 or so team mates in it.
I think all of them punished me and i was kicked and banned from the server. So annoying, but funny at the same time.

I was in a titan server just a minute ago pod lauching onto an enemy titan. From the air I could easily see that an enemy transport ship was taking out my teammates as they landed on deck, so aimed my pod and landed right ontop of them. 1 destroyed transport - 2 kills. It really is an effect strategy.

Podding death from above is a very effective way of clearing out those airbusses on the back of you Titan.
A little tricky to get back there but a lot of fun when you take out the enemies portable spawn point.:D
I had been on the titan, waiting for a transport to spawn... It was taking too long so I got on a pod and ejected out towards the nearest flag. Just so happened there was a transport full of men on its way to capture the flag. Timed it right, and I nailed the transport just as it was arriving: it was in midair, didn't even get a chance to land.
I have a video of it, i'll put it up later :-)

I actually did this and landed on an emeny mech, Although I Thought it was going to kill him(and me) but i just landed on him and stayed....He even started walking away and i stayed for a bit but then jumped off and killed him with the Rail gun turret.

This is a new tactic for titan defense. You can pod out of your titan and deliver death from above to any spot on the rear deck. Versus somebody who knows what he is doing you won't keep a transport back there for more than 30 seconds at a time.

same thing, only from the titan with 3 kills :-)
I have a video of it, but i don't know how to make it smaller to fit it in youtube. It's 200+ MB, any suggestions?

I did it once, only I podded straight up and hit the gun of the Titan.

I've landed on mechs and tanks and apcs and it usually takes them out with 1 hit, they start flaming and then blow up. There was one time where I landed on a mech and bounced off and flew about 100m in the air :hmm: .

I've noticed that pods take out infantry and unarmored targets in one "shot" fairly consistant, but armored targets such as mechs, apcs, and tanks depend somewhat on damage. I have not thoroughly tested this. It also appears that landing on unmanned apcs yield no damage for some reason.
