Joystick Hat Switch / POV Hat mouselook JoyToKey Tutorial

My JoyToKey config (which some of you know from BF2) also works for BF2142. The only difference is that the picture below mentions flares and nightvision goggles from BF2 ;)

JoyToKey:
A hard to find 3rd party application which can give all sorts of insane new functionality (most notably - mouse movement/button) to your joystick...ANY joystick. The original author's website no longer exists, at least not in English anyway. So here is the only most recent English support mirror I can find:

PS - it is not cheating, so don't fall for the old 'oh noes! it's a 3rd party app and EA will ban me!!1!!1'

With JoyToKey, you only have to move the hatswitch for mouse looking..you don't have to hold down any other key or joystick button. You basically achieve the effect that should have originally been included.

That is what makes my method so sweet :D

If you do not want to set the application up yourself, then download my collection of configuration files, shortcuts, and a batch file to get it all running:

1. Copy contents of JoyToKey.zip (http://www.totalbf2142.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=151&stc=1&d=1160953640) to C:\Program Files\JoyToKey
2. Run JoyToKey.bat

When you launch the included .bat file, it will launch 2 instances of JoyToKey to your tray with the full setup. I have included the 2 config files I use with my MS Sidewinder Precision 2 to achieve the one-motion mouselook. You can check them out to see how I did it, or you can ask here and I can help. All I had to do was load 2 instances of JoyToKey and set each instance to use one of the 2 configs so that both configs are running simultaneously. It may sound a little confusing, but this is already done for you if you installed my config files.

You'll also notice that I have it set up so that you can use the Commo rose and voice communication while flying :D Nice added bonus ;)

Hold down button 5 to:
-use the hatswitch to change camera views and change jet weapon loadouts
-use button 6 to eject
-use button 7 to voip chat with squad.

Hold down button 8 to:
-use the hatswitch for the commo rose
-use button 1 (trigger) to select the command.

Here are config files specific to the Logitech 3D Pro joystick (thanks to RingMasTeR):

If you have multiple joystick devices and need to change your joystick ID numbers around so that your main joystick is detected as 'Joystick 1', then download this app:

And for anybody wondering...for my personal setup, I use a modified version of what I have posted above. I have been tweaking over the past year and I have found my best setup. It's quite complicated:

Very nice program, it will help a lot now that i can bind keys to vent talk and such on my joystick. I wonder if the auto-shooting thing will make the copter gunner shoot faster...?

Also, could you attach those files to the bf2142 board? It seems you need a different set of user names for each forum, weird.

I got your files, but I am lost. First time I have seen this, so bear with me.
How do we learn the BF2142 commands to activate something on the Commo Rose - for instance.

I guess what I am curious about your keyboard layout. Can you go into which keys you have for Sqad commo and Commander commo, as well as squad speak and commander speak? What about mouselook keys.

Your setup may have more than I can handle on my MS Precision 2. Basically, I want to be able to button 6 to activate the rose and let the POV navigate the commands. (what I really want is to be able to say, "get in" or "Bail out" easily.
Maybe using button 5 for voice would be cool too. 5+POV up to squad chat and 5+POV down for Commander chat. How did you map the mouse action in commo rose to a POV? Do you do something in-game to setup (run joy2key and then run game to teach J2K)?

No, you don't have to set anything up except to bind your joystick axes in BF2142 just as you normally would and bind the remaining joystick buttons as you see fit..just try not to bind buttons 5 and 8 unless you're going to also edit them in JoyToKey.

JoyToKey simply takes a few of the buttons and gives them keyboard functions to give you mouselooking with the POV hat, and Commo Rose use with the POV hat.

If you have the MS Precision 2, then my setup is EXACTLY designed for it.

It's not the simplest program in the world but after you play around with it a bit, you'll see how powerful it is.

I was really hoping to try this out and I was so excited when I saw there where already config files for my logitech 3d pro, but I can't see to download them. Actually I can't download either file so I can pick it apart. Is this me or are the files just not avalable anymore.

It took me to a blank page the other day, now it takes me to one saying the link was invalid and to contact the administrator... bummer

What I really need to know is how to setup my control con file to make it see my joystick. And how to get my changes to stay! I edited it opened the game and it had lost my changes... really frustrating!

I simply can't get JoyToKey to detect my controller (Logitech Cordless Freedom 2.4). I remember trying this when this was first posted and had similar non-results. Not sure if the program has been updated since but...

Nice feature, I like the set up u have but have not been able to rapid fire while actually in the game. What i mean is i can get this to work in note pad or any other areas, :confused: the POV works as you have it set up but once in the game the fire trigger will not rapid fire. any ideas?
