Battlefield 2142 is designed to run on Windows XP compatible graphics and sound cards. Drivers for these devices are provided by the respective card manufacturer and may result in compatibility
issues beyond our control.

Most issues can be resolved by updating hardware drivers and is always recommended.

Notice: This game contains technology intended to prevent copying that may conflict with some DVD-ROM, DVD-RW and virtual drives.

====================================
V. KNOWN ISSUES AND TROUBLESHOOTING
====================================

EA performs a server maintenance every week on Tuesdays at 09:00 till 11:00 GMT as a result you will be unable to log into Battlefield 2142 during this period.

CHANGING DISPLAY MODE
Occasionally on some video cards you may be allowed to set the display mode to one not supported by your computer. This will result in a black screen being shown. To remedy this use the Windows
Explorer to find and delete the directory:

\My Documents\Battlefield 2142\Profiles\

This will reset your game to the default settings. You can now start the game, retrieve or create a new profile, and re-adjust the settings using the Menu as normal.

Players with SoundMAX HD Audio integrated chipsets may experience crackling and popping audio during game play, if you are experiencing this please ensure you have the latest hardware drivers
installed (see IV. NOTES ON COMPATIBILITY)

Players who have the Windows security update KB917422 installed may suffer from an application error when running Battlefield 2142. This error can be solved by uninstalling the KB917422 update.

Task switching is not fully supported while running Battlefield 2142. If you use functions such as Alt-Tab and other variations then you may experience problems.

Well, the EA Master Server keeps disconnecting me each and every time I try to connect to any of the servers.

So either they are having problems or they are keeping people off of the official v1.01 servers until the game is officially 'released' for everybody (and EA Downloader).

if you ask me this is all stupid they should only release the hard copy of the game and get that sorted, that saves all the faffing about with two slightly differnet versions
i said hard copy as its gotta be what there best at as almost every previous game has only had one
if theres no reason to change then don't

From what I have read, you are correct. If you purchased the game from the EA Downloader, you need to keep the EA Downloader activated, so that they can verify it. It is the equivalent of having to have the DVD in the drive.

Eagoyle

It says keep it installed not keep it running; difference in the words. You will not have to keep EA Downloader active to start up 2142; why would they put a BF2142.exe link on your desktop.
Personally I am glad I do not have to use my DVD drive anymore and have removed it from my computer and just use it as an external USB drive unless I need to install Windows or soemthing.

Well, for whatever reason i cannot log on to BestBuy right now, but if you called whomever you spoke with must be incorrect. It's most likely the 18th.

And for those asking where we got out copies of BF2142 from, it's 1, special access 2, their country has an earlier date of release or 3, people who pre-ordered from online outlets such as EB Games and Gamestop are receiving their orders now.

Amazing, even with an approximate 50,000 player (according to ea) beta test they still manage to make a balls of it and rush the game out the door before the fixes could be made. Clearly a quality product this. :rolleyes:

Talus

You shouldn't have to..most people should be able to run BF2142 without opening anything.

Opening those ports should only be necessary for those folks who are on a tightly administered network or behind a heavy duty firewall.

What does this have to do with patch v1.01?
