View Full Version : Pre-loaded using EA downloader? Wanna torture yourself? Read This!

I was just staring at the countdown on the EA downloader, still furious that it is being released on the 18th now, and I wondered exactly how it was determining how much time was left until release.
So I changed my Windows clock ahead one hour, and suddenly an hour melted away! My heart all aflutter, I went ahead one more day, which magically brought me to the exact moment tomorrow when BF2142 will be released, at least the final 1% EA is keeping hostage.
As the counter hit "0", the Downloader said BF2142 was ready to finish installing! Hell yeah!

Except, it was not to be. When I tried to install the rest, it gave me a message, which read "I'm sorry, your clock must be off, dipwad. You still gotta wait." (paraphrased, of course).

hey, it would have been nice, maybe if I change the clock in bios? Or I could hack into the EA server and move its clock ahead 1 hour and 45 minutes? Yeah, if only I knew how to do anything like that...

It's going to work like this...

Depending on what time zone you are in the US it will unlock a couple of hours earlier / later.

Once the earliest activation time zone is ready you can just change your clock and voilá the game will work...

Good catch Consollus. I did a quick search so I wouldn't post a redundant topic, but obviously missed this.
I thought it was actually getting unlocked at the same universal time, so different time zones would unlock it relative to this. If not, I'd be more than willing to "relocate" my computer to New York for a couple of extra hours of gameplay.

Well, the game is being released at one universal time, isn't it? I mean, that's why people in different time zones have different times on their counter, right? So which time zone on the globe will have their counter reach zero first?

no we have the same time counter...... mine will release in 23 hours so iti will 10 AM here in the pacific

Ok, now I'm confused. So if it's being released all at once, what's to keep us from changing our times to European times and getting it really early? Are they tracking IP's?

They have not started any activations yet, once they start activating the first ones in the US then it may work then if you play with your clock.

It is bound not to work yet.

Firstly the US get the game from ea downloader a full day and about 10 hours before us Europeans.

Secondly do you have any idea about how timezones work ?
