PS3 Fanboy (http://www.ps3fanboy.com/) is reporting that in the upcoming Playstation 3 exclusive game LittleBigPlanet users can charge for the download of their custom created content. Check it out:

What's a better incentive to create a level in LittleBigPlanet than good, hard cold cash? According to recent comments by David Reeves, president of SCEE, that's what's planned for the upcoming community-driven platformer. "What we're trying to do with LittleBigPlanet is almost iTunes meets eBay in the sense that once an individual or a developer has qualified by producing certain levels or certain add-ons, they will then be able in the future to exchange these and make money out of them," Reeves notes. "Eventually, it's feasible that you might well see the first LittleBigPlanet millionaire!"

It appears that how much creators can charge for content is also user-determined. "Even if you charge less than one euro, it doesn't take many downloads if you've got a really strong LittleBigPlanet level for people to be able to make money. It's a great way for people to show others what they can do." This may give aspiring level designers a chance to not only show off their creativity, but turn their skills into profit.

I prefer the "open-source" way of the sporepedia.

This might be the dumbest idea ever. Micro-transactions from the devs are bad enough in most respects, but to have every user created content turn into that too?

It says it will allow then not that they have to.

If someone spends days and weeks on end making a fabulous level i dont see why they can't charge a small amount for others to enjoy it. While yea they should keep with the feeling of this is for everyone instead of this is for everyone willing to pay.

I myself would never pay for anything like this nor a subscription to play online. Which is why I picked the PS3 over the 360 and never played games like World of Warcraft or Age of Conan.

Yeah, but you know full well that greed is probably going to get the best of most map makers. At least those map makers that have some semblance of talent. It's great that it's optional, but I do not see this as being anything "good" for the LBP or PS3 community.

I'm not against all forms of micro-transactions (I mean, I DID just pay for a month of WoW the other day and I do buy a Rock Band track here and there), but when user created content has nearly always been free (at least on the PC), this sort of news just smacks of "bad idea."

I guess it sort of comes off as a bad idea for most any micro-transactions released on consoles while their PC counter-parts get things for free (I know that isn't the case with this game here, but it's just on my mind). I mean, the PC gets Call of Duty maps for free while the console owners have to pay for them (typically). I don't think things like that are fair either. Just tossing that out there too.

Even if it is an option I would imagine most people would want to make a fast buck out anything they can, not sure how this one will pan out I wish it would just have remained free for all levels.
