Contrary to what was previously revealed as the reason for WipEout HD's delay, Sony (http://www.scei.co.jp/index_e.html) has come forth to provide us with another reason! It seems as though concerns of epilepsy aren't to blame for the delay, but rather the fact that Sony is adding in more content and trophies to the game!
Following reports concerning the delay to Wipeout HD and suggestions that the game had failed an epilepsy test, a SCEE representative today provided TVG with an official response.
"The reason for the delay of WipEout HD on PS3 has been due to the many improvements we have been making and the numerous features we've added to the game. These include: 8 reverse tracks, 4 extra ships, 2 alternative HUDS, 2 Player offline split screen and XMB Trophy support. We look forward to sharing WipEout HD with you very soon.
Regarding the speculation about health issues, we can assure you that we take consumer safety very seriously and monitor it very carefully."
Not exactly a firm denial to the epilepsy reports, but at least we have confirmation that Wipeout HD will feature Trophy support and splitscreen as a result of the delay.
We'll be sure and update the news should Sony ever provide a definitive answer on whether or not WipEout HD actually failed the epilepsy tests. It's almost a bit baffling as to why they won't just make a firm statement one way or the other!
