My fav kit in BF2 was sniper.
The ghillie suit was great, if you knew how to use it effectivly. Hide in plain sight, never use obvious sniper spots, never siloette yourself on hills etc. Heck if you stayed still tanks and noobs could go straight past you. LOL.
Now things are different... Now you stand out like dogs balls (excuse the aussie expression, you yanks will just have to figure that one out ;) )
I find that you have to hide in wreckage or behind small rocks etc. Active camo is meant to compensate for the lack of 'passive' camoflauge.
I think active camo + rdx packs are a fun combo, specially behind enemy lines. Anyway these are just ramblings of a BF2 vet and BF2142 Noob!

Oh, BTW, don't ya hate yer dog tags being taken!!! Really good incentive to 'not to be knifed' Someone displaying YOUR dogtags :cry:
