View Full Version : Disable annoying startup videos

The introductory movies to BF2142 add to the startup time for the game, as well as the memory usage. To disable them permanently, you can't use the +restart command line command, as this no longer works. I also don't recommend deleting the movie files - this may cause problems with verification of client information on certain servers and/or with Punkbuster. So the simplest method to skip the startup movies is to go to your \Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\mods\bf2142\Movies directory and rename all the .bik files to something else (e.g. rename EA.bik to EA._bik). This will prevent these movie files from loading at startup and take you straight to the main login screen.

Note that renaming the Titan tutorial movie titan_tutorial.bik will cause problems if you try to view the Titan Tutorial by clicking the 'Titan Tips' option under Multiplay, so I don't recommend renaming this file - you can leave it as is, as it does not add to the startup time in the full version of the game.

Why rename the bik files, just rename the actual Movies folder, ie Moviesnot and it works.

Because the titan movie is in that folder. Some people might want to watch it.

btw.
To make this whole startup procedure complete add the following information to the target field of your bf2142 shortcut on your desktop:

+eaAccountName YourAccountName +eaAccountPassword YourPassword +soldierName YourSoldierName

Of course you will have to substitute YourAccountName, YourPassword, and YourSoldierName with the correct information ;)

will punkbuster prevent you from joining ranked servers saying that you have a mod?

Do you have to rename the extention, as shown in the first post, or will the first part of the file name do?

Just rename as I did in the example.

Just delete the whole map... If you watched the movies once, you don't wont to see them again. I even did it with the demo...

Just rename the movies, it will work fine. That is just in case you are afraid of messing up the file and want to make a backup.

Actually, you can rename the entire Movies folder. I renamed the Movies folder to BakMovies, and haven't had a problem since. I'm at the login screen in about 5 seconds.

I'm at the login screen in about 5 seconds. With all the EA BF titles I've renamed the foolish movie files, however, there is a warning I read back when BF2 came out, from evenbalance.com, that deleting/renaming the FOLDER will cuz PB to not verify client data. If you guys aren't having problems with it, then maybe that's been resolved.

Nope, no problems. Never had any problems. Even with BF2 i deleted the map and never had problems :)

All I did was make a new folder outside the BF2142 folder and called it BIKfiles and moved them in there, all works fine and you still have the original files (unchanged) in the new folder.

Did the same with BF2. :)

Here is the easy way:

Movies >>> Ctrl+A >>> Del

Works like a charm.

I agree with you mate - but I would do SHIFT+DEL instead of just DEL ;)

Thanks for this. I always thought there was an issue with pb if you did this. Thankfully I am wrong :)

p.s. How did the bloke/lady above me earn his/her brackets?
