The guys over at G4TV (http://www.g4tv.com/) have posted up a video featuring Darren Gladstone from Games for Windows: The Official Magazine, Adam Sessler Co-host of X-Play, and Kevin Pereira of G4TV. In the video they discuss the entire controversary around the ads and mid way through the video you will actually see a Pepsi ad in game. To check out the video for yourself, click here (http://www.g4tv.com/pile_player.aspx?video_key=13498).

i just wish the bigwigs at ea played their own games. then maybe they'd understand where we were coming from. to them, though, it's just another product...

Yeah that pepsi add did look chopped didn't it.

The fact remains the in game ads were handled very poorly by EA. The way they went about it was very under-handed. Nothing on the box, nothing on EA downloader about it before you paid for it and downloaded it. Nothing when you installed it. In Australia, the "white paper" wasn't even included inside the box. They would also know that once the box is opened it is non-returnable. Very deceptive and dirty tactics.

To believe the statements they have put out since about it isn't the same as what the white paper says they can do if they want to. "Advertising data" can be anything they deem worthy to collect for the purpose of serving us ads in-game. Sure your IP can be collected and seen by server admins, any website you visit etc etc. But its not needed to be collected by IGA no matter how innocent they make it out to be. BF2 when you signed up for an account you chose your country. Why isn't that good enough instead of your IP? All you need to do is enter your country and they then know what region specific ads to send you. They don't need to collect and store your IP everytime you play online.

Not only that there has been no perceived benefit to gamers. 2142 was the absolute worst game for EA to "test" this on. Not only does it use a tweaked BF2 engine, therefore reducing costs compared to a fully blown new game with a new game engine, and is arguably a professional mod, therefore they can't state any arguments about increased developments costs compared to BF2.

In Australia 2142 costs a massive $109.95 AU when BF2 cost $89.95, now how can that be justified, with the extra revenue from in-games ads and obviously a reduced production cost from using a tweaked BF2 engine?

Also I don't believe its necessary at all to have adware installed onto the clients pc. All the information can be collected server side and sent off at the end of the round just as the stats are.

All in all very dodgy tactics and very poorly handled for their 1st effort at adware and in-game ads.

I wouldn't mind the ads if they roughed up the textures to make them fit in so they are not all in your face.

The only thing that bothers me is that there are SOOOOOOOOOOO many places to put it, and if they dont do a good job tweaking those images, it will completelly ruin the enviroment of the game...

I understand having a few pepsi ads, but to much of one thing is stupid. On crates and billboards there should be a wide variety of different ads placed where you would find them. Like having a Pepsi ad on a shipping container in the middle of the ending of the world is beyond stupid, but having it say Enron (New energy starts now) or something like that it will make it feel more real.
Truth ads, 2006-2140 ads are unacceptable, movie ads, Other game ads are things we don't want to see, Dicecream is ok though:D

Real business I wouldn't mind, Maybe even people running for president or congress can put up vote for me signs lol

If they are going to advertise stuff that doesn't exist then why would they do it at all. Think about that before you post saying that the ads should be from non-existing products. What would Dicecream be advertising?

For me i would be ok with it if the ads blended into the game. The colour in the ads are so vibrant and they would be distracting when trying to pick someone off from far. Also in one of the vids they showed there were ads on all thye sides of a building.

The dicecream part was a joke, I want to see big businesses that we all know are going to exist in 2142. Seeing a Movie ad coming out next week or a truth ad telling you not to smoke is annoying. There advertising w/ kids in mind so be prepared for stuff like that...you know where protection:hmm:
