Can someone please help me understand what this does? I've read 2 discriptions about this item.

-The DysTek Pulse Meter is a short-ranged reconnaissance tool which will identify any enemy units in range. The information will be passed on to each squad member via the NetBat.

-The DysTek Pulse Meter can fix the position of enemy squad leader beacons. Use it when you suspect a beacon has been placed nearby.

Does it do both? I've pulled it out right behind a enemy and noticed nothing happening on the screen. I must be doing something wrong.

Thanks for any info you can give me.

I belive that you need to actively use it. Left click with it next time. It should work then, take some time to recharge, then can be used again.

The pulse will temporary log ALL enemy's (vehicle or infantry) upto 30meters in front of you in a 90 degree cone that you will see extending from you on your minimap. If you happen to have an assault player in your squad standing near you when you do it the infantry will stay logged into netbat same with the engineer will keep the vehicles logged.

It also reveals enemy explosives and squad beacons, supply kits, sentry guns

So when it finds someone, you see a red dot on your mini map like a UAV would give? Or on your handheld device? Also is it a quick 1 time scan, or does it scan for a few seconds giving you enough time to turn around in a circle? Sorry for the stupid questions, dont have it yet. I picked it up and didnt know how to really use it. I unlocked it in beta testing and thought it was not working.
Thanks again.

You use it and you see a wave pass over your screen showing all the enemys placements within 30meters which shows up on your netbat meaning your actually vision not the radar depending on which guys you have in your squad and what netbat upgrades they have will depend how much info is shown for each thing detected and how long it will stay showed

No you will see your scanning range in the minimap as a cone in front of you. Any info it finds for the pulse is NETBAT only which means you'll see the red diamonds on them for a short period of time. Apparently an enemy engineer can log you into thier netbat if they have thier sonar device setup within your range when you do a pulse. I found that out when I picked up a tank with the sonar attached and it made a sudden beeline toward me.

It recharges extremely fast so you need to keep scanning! I DONT think it relays anything to squad mates with helmets. I think it is just for your use!

I saw a video of a guy using the unlocked shotgun use pulse meter like a maniac. He seemed to have gotten it down to using it effectively.

I find that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

One game at Cerbere Landing I scanned prior to going around one of the house corners and promptly got knifed:laugh:

But when it does work, its great.

Thanks for the info about the vehicles and stuff, I always thought it just found people.

Stay dirty.

Remember 30 feet exactly is the distance from the console in a titan to the end of the hall heading to the rear. It's NOT that much distance. So even in best cases your pulse will tell you all the enemies between you and the titan console but won't show the guy right at the fork because he's just out of range.

A silo flag is a 15x15 square so if you hiding behind it and using pulse you've cut your effective range in half.

I equip it whenever I'm using Support, along with my Clark.

But as said, it doesn't always pick up guys, which is kind of random. I've scanned behind walls of an enemies last base on a 10 vs 10 server, knowing that at least five guys were in the immediate area, and nothing has showed up. I've raced around the corner to quickly discover otherwise.

It's other major problem is that it isn't real-time information. The red diamond will remain on your HUD for a healthy 10 or 15 seconds in the same spot, despite where the enemy may have moved. Though you're aware of this, the problem becomes that this almost immediatly out-dated information, is forwareded to your Squad, who may not realize you're using it. So some members of your squad may end up chasing shadows (I've been in that role before, left staring at a red diamond on my HUD with nothing there).

Personally, I use the mini-map while using the Pulse Meter. I'm careful though, because the Pulse Meter leaves you unarmed, and vulnerable. If you're lying in wait, scanning an area, it's usually a good idea to have a Sentry gun to watch the way an enemy is most expected to come, and use the Pulse meter to get a bead on targets before pouncing on them. It also helps while taking flags, or locating an enemy Commander if you slip into his main. Nice, stationary target.

At least, that's how I use it.

I have the unlock, I couldnt get it to work yet, Lol, I have been at silos on titan and use it to find hiding snipers, never can pick them up. Im eather not close enough or something, so far the thing was useless. Im glad I found this thread needed info on it.

I'll tell ya where this device shines - defending the roof of your Titan. I only just got it recently, but I had to have it after seeing videos of people using it in tandem with the shotgun. You can spawn on your Titan's hangar, look up at the roof, and use the pulse meter to determine if you've been boarded BEFORE you jump in a pod and land up there. It's also great for clearing out those vents and rafters. You can stand at the vent, zap the pulse to see if anyone is inside, and then run right up behind them for some quick shotgun kills.

Be aware that this device does have a limited range, though! It's extremely useful for tipping the scales in CQB when there's a lot of cover to use, but don't become dependent upon it.

The Pulse Meter is very effective when used in a squad. When it scans (like said above), it provides you with a 90 degree angle scan of what's in front of you. Any enemies/mines/sentry guns will be shown as diamonds (YOU MUST HAVE YOUR 3D MAP TURNED ON FOR THIS). The diamonds will also indicate their elevation. Everyone in your squad will see these diamonds as well.

When the scan executes, it takes a snapshot of enemy positions. Don't expect the enemy to still be there. You have to learn how to anticipate what they are doing/where they are going. Otherwise, you will be caught off-guard and most likely get killed. If there is a high concentration, throw a grenade. If only one, determine (say, if they were moving right-to-left) if it will be an easy kill (by moving behind them) or if you will meet heavy resistance.

Now, I have seen instances where the enemy ALSO shows up on the minimap, but most often it does not. This has something to do with the NetBat system (also mentioned above). According to the comment made above, it appears that it requires that an assault player with the helmet be plugged into your squad for the infantry locations to be displayed. For vehicles, it would require an Engineer with the helmet.

I think this is one of the best unlocks in this game. =-]

There is only one explanation you need to know.

Pulse meter and the clark = DEATH TO ENEMY!

Since 1.1 my pulse metre has become un working (not a word but w/e :P )

It used to work amazingly, i could use it and see half the people on the map and lob a few nades, but now i use it on a position with CONFIRMED UAV and it doesnt bother to register...ever!
