Ads Coming Soon?

If you haven't already noticed while playing in game, many of the billboards in Battlefield 2142 have been changing to display various messages for both the PAC and EU sides. Could this means that in game ads are coming soon? We'll have to find out but until then check out the screenshots:

Now those kinds of dynamic ads I like, lol. I kinda hope that even when the real ads start showing up that those stay in the regular rotation.

Though I don't think the PAC ad should be in English, lol.

these are still demo / test ads, wait for subway ads. ive seen them in swat4 and they look like yellow eh. what about compusa, newegg, bestbuy, ect ads. who do you think will be advertising, jolt and redbull. pepsi, comcast. believe be they wont be around in 2142 after nuclear holocaust, it wont be real. plus we are not blocking adware alone, we are blocking spyware component!

I think ads are coming soon...there's been sightings of a Pepsi ad...I don't notice 'em too much, though. Saw the EU ad, and thought "Hey, that's different." Looked at it for a few seconds, then got bored and wandered off to cap the flag I was near.

I have noticed this too. I need to block the ports and see what happens.

Also I noticed about 5 ads at the tollhouse flag at Camp Gibraltar and know that stuff like that is going to distract me from playing.

You're still being spied on, you just don't see the ads. Your viewing stats are still being sent to IGA, you just happen to be looking at something besides the ad that was paid for to be put there.

Those where nothing they where high up and out of the way. 2142 ads are not even more then 5 feet away from another and are huge. they better not keep all those ads in belgrade.

I don't really mind these adverts but agree with TRD Supra, some of the maps have far too many billboards, it will look stupid.

I wish they'd of mixed it up a bit more. For example had dynamic advert posters on walls, vending machines, shop window posters, I don't know, just more variety.

Its easy to block the ads completly and stop any communication with the advert servers.

what buggs me is that the ad _visually_ doesnt match. Just compare the two "join XYZ!" test-ads and the Intel ads. The test ads look good, they look worn, they dont look too distracting. Now the intel ad, it looks like 1:1 scraped from their website...sharp edges...defined colors...they simply look like they dont belong there. Whats next? Flash ads? Hit-the-bunny-and-win-a-ipod!!!! :rolleyes:

By what Battlefield 2142 Ad Cache Editor 0.1.3, great little tool if you want to mod the ads, says that the Intel Ad started today and I thought I saw somewhere that it doesn't expire until January '07. But, it disappeared meaning that the date may have changed.

I have no problem with those ads. They look cool, fit into the environment well and they bring some "wow" effect to the game. I mean if I drive around and I see an ad, I think "oh thats new, nice!", smile and drive past. Brings some randomness into the game environment.

I don't think present-day advertising works in a futuristic game. If the game was set "today", it would blend better with the environment than it does with BF2142.

That would be more "distracting from the gameplay"... :P But then, one person I've showed my ad cache editing software to immediately started inserting softcore porn into his cache file, so I think it is a popular idea. :P

Heh. What's funny is that kind of photoshopping is believable with aliased graphics. I've seen so many mocked up ads in these forums and not a single one in game that I don't trust any reported ones now hehe.

NO your wrong, if they find advertisers in any country it is possible to display advs region specific

so if you conecting from russia you might see russian advertisements

BTW i only like the advs because they can be manipulated and i changed them to porn ; ) AND animations are theoreticaly possible as well how ever i did not tested that out yet

i created a very simple instalation package that updates all ads to sexy (tasteful, in dark style) billboards but im unfortunaly not alowed to post if here : ( guys can always PM me ; )

There is an option allowing for video ad support in my program, it's just totally untested with BF2142. I found it in Trackmania Nations.

Are people seeing the ads now? I know a few people have seen a few - like the Intel one. I haven't seen any yet and am still getting the EU and PAC ones.

Strangely I am looking forward to seeing the dynamic ads.
