Best tip to start out this game with is get in a squad and go off of what the squad leader says you get points for doing them and field unlocks so you can decide what kit you want to unlock next. this helps alot considering you only get 1 point per kill now but if you kill in the area that your leader told you to go to you get 2.

Kill them before they kill you
Always point the gun forward
Never point the nose of an aircraft straight down and accelerate
NEVER sit on grenades

If you've played all the other BF games, especially BF2 the learning curve isn't that bad. My best suggestion is to pick one kit you think you'd want to play the most and unlock that tree instead of spreading it all out. For me its Assault since that's now the medic kit. You know what's expected of you with that kit and if you stick to good infrantry heavy maps you'll have fun and get a better eye for this game.

Support racks up points in Titan defense, since you can just camp a corridor and mow people down. The sentry gun, shield, and ammo hub work wonders there. Avoid the Ganz though, I hear it sucks.
Recon is great for Titan attack (RDX packs), Titan defense (AP mines, sniper/lambert), sniping (left side upgrade tree), and being stealthy/knifing (active camo).
Engineer is great for anti-vehicle, Titan attack (explosive weaponry for consoles/core), and repairing.
Assault is great for general purposes, such as taking points and Titan attack/defense, especially with the healing and reviving. The rockets/shotgun attachments are useful for those purposes as well. I reccomend the Voss, it's a great gun. If you don't want the Voss, then avoid the smoke grenades.
awesome thanks...keep them coming...I seem to run around aimlessly a lot of times, and then just get gunned down...
Even if I see someone first, I will miss a few shots, and they seem to kill me first haha...I know, Im the player everyone wants in the server hahaha...

1. Get to know your kit. What it can do for your team not your score. If you do this your score will increase. Grab whatever you feel confortable with. Don't like something, try another. After a point you'll know kits well enough you can grab any kit off the ground and use it well. But, you'll never be an expert. No one ever is.
2. Take your time. Don't go popping shots off expecting the guy on the other end to die. Drop into a crouch right click into a zoom and aim for the head/upper torso. Stop firing if your first couple don't take him down. The following shots won't be any better unless the guy stopped in the open. Even then you'll want to either aim again or find cover. You might find you run out of ammo less often.
3. Use cover. Theres lots of places to hide. Always keep in mind where cover is because you can use it to reduce your profile and places enemy's might use later. You'll find yourself remembering them in later rounds.
4. Control that itchy trigger finger. You see a guy running towards you. You have the advantage. What do you do? You spot him. You spot him in case your first shots miss and you can keep track of him. You spot him so in case you die, your teamates know where he is. Don't worry about someone kill stealing. You saw him first and by the time your done the spot your reticule will have focused and you'll hit better. So spot them 1st and shot second.
These are a good start. From there you might learn how to lead your target, use vechiles effectively, and even earn the praise of your team.

you want some *really* good hints? try this thread;

also, if ur trying to get used to everything try and find a server with, ahhh, 'average' players on it and at non-peak times. i always get owned then, so i get up early and usually play a well (n comparison)
