So, how good is the SD-8 Sentry drone?

Now I just unlocked the recon drone (though I have been using it with field-upgrades for some time) and I love it. My wall-hacking drone and I are a near unstoppable team when we have the element of surprise. However I have heard that the Sentry drone is absolutely horrible. I personally have never seen a drone firing at anyone, friendly or enemy.
Since the EA stats server has decided to demote me to private for the day and denied me my unlocks in multi-player, I played around in single player and found that the bots were carying sentry drones around. Needless to say I nicked a few. ;)
Unfortunately the thing won't even fire! I got it to shoot at a group of enemies once. Even if there is an enemy in the netbat, standing right in front of you, the stupid little drone won't fire.

Does anyone have any success stories involving this drone? I don't plan to unlock this, but is it even worth a field upgrade?

I killed a guy with one the other day and his drone never fired at me. Then I decided to destroy it for fun and guess what? As soon as I shot at it the damn thing lit me up and killed me quite fast. lol, shoulda left the little bugger alone. I assume that the reason yours finally shot at some enemies was because they hit it while firing at you. Just a guess.

Lol one time a guy was hiding with his sentry drone, thinking it would save his life somehow. I dived at him with a knife and his drone sat there looking stupid :)

I would try it though, seems like it could be useful in some situations where you can't finish off a person you've hit a few times.

Normally the drone sprays relentlessly at any sign of the enemy, even when it is through a wall. That's the support drone though, are you referring to the Accipeter? In that case I dunno, I've never seen it in game. I hear it shoots at nothing though.

Yes I am refering to the SD-8 Accipter. And no, I wish it would shoot walls, heck I'll take just about anything right now!

It if actually shot people, it could be a very useful unlock. My recomendation for a patch is to make it spray at visable enemies in your netbat, and give it a limited view cone. Right now it does more harm than good, a far cry from the Otus.

Sometimes my Sd-8 shoots a wall of lead through walls at enemy's behind walls. And other times it just flies their spinning around in circles. I hope they have a patch that fixes the drone.

Oh, I was referring to the support drone that you drop on the ground. Nevermind, then. That support drone is like the opposite of the Accip, I guess.

The SD-8 is the floating sentry drone and the A12 is the support sentry gun.

The A12 will light you up quickly if you are equal in hieght to it.

The SD-8 just floats there doing nothing but spinning and making noise until you attack it. I found out the hard way (or is it easy way) as did KOF Pops, I shot at the drone and he killed me instantly. That is that last time I shoot at them.

I heard you have to actually use the q menu and spot them for it to shoot them, i had one kill me from 50+ metres away in seconds on camp gibralta the other day, i was speechless. Haven't gotton around to trying mine out yet, i've gotta get a field upgrade to check it out.

the drone works off netbat, when I had it I noticed it would fire at anybody that was on my netbat that I looked at.

So if I saw a red triangle thru a wall and looked at it, it would start firing, if I looked away it would stop.

It should in theory do the same for anybody in your squad (it says anybody in your squad can controll it) so if your looking away and its firing at some guy thru a wall, a squad mate of yours must be locked onto that enemy via netbat and looking there direction.

Its not like the support unlock where it locks onto targets on its own and fires, it needs a netbat lock and as far as I can tell must have sombody activly looking in that targets direction.

I dont normally use it because it gives away my position.
