This discussion came up on our clan forums recently, regarding proper playing style and tips for the blossoming squad leader...

Has anyone effectively used the "move" command to generate Squad Leader / Member bonuses?

That is, does a kill made in the radius of a "move" point have the same effect as one made near an "attack" or "defend" point?

No, and you get bonus for being near the SL anyway so...

As far as I know you only get points for attack and defend orders.

I use move because somtimes (titan is a good example) the attack/defend command wont generate where you need it too. I swear it works but maybe I have to retest it and look closley.

for the titans just locate the icon for the titan either red or blue and isue your order on that as if it where a flag or silo.

Try clicking around on different parts of the Titan icon till attack comes up. I used to do the same till I clicked around on the icon a bit more until it comes up.

Same with Silos/Flags you have to actually click on the icon.

yeah I have done that but seems like the order radius is small and the order will be placed on a odd part of the titan and points not recieved.

I swear with a move command right in the titan entrance or right in the core room while defending/attacking those areas I was getting points. Like I said I have to test it tho.

have not played in 2 days had a big party at the hotel this weekend instead.

there is a thread somwhere around here about this. (titan) If you are on the map it is towards the back of the icon that you have to put your arrow.

Sry but just to confirm you're saying you can place attack and defend for the titan? I've tried but gave up thinking it wasn't happening.

Thats what I thought, as I never got any sucsess points with the move to option. Not sure why you cant just do the attack/defend yourself, maybe to stop people putting it everywhere they go and getting points for everything, but it should at least have attack on a decent radius of a flag.

I play SL about 75% of the time i'm on 2142, i'm the SL with a bunch of my friends who are no good at setting orders etc, and i find it easy and enjoyable to do so. I'll use move orders when i want the entire squad to assault a base from a direction though this happens rarely, or more often when all flags of th enemy are held and the commander spots the last remaining troops.

I get really annoyed at commanders that issue move orders, sure i'll go to the base he sent me to, but i'll set my own attack order. Its not hard to issue a squad an attack order instead of a move order.

Same here and when I repeatedly ask the commander to "give only attack or defend orders and not movement orders" nothing changes. He will still give only movement orders and will not reply back in any way.

Got my gold SL badge a few days ago :)

I usually ignore commander orders, my squad usually gets a few field unlocks every round so i guess i issue the orders fine.

And regarding the Titan orders, i seem to rack good squad points by using the icon issue command (point at it, and click the t and issue command), so i guess it's working fine.

Dont bother with the map, use the spotting method. For the titan, look towards the enemy titan, see the red titan icon with the arrow next to it? Put your crosshair over it so it has a yellow outline, hold down T and click the mouse button and it will become the attack target. Same thing with silos and CPs.

The only time this isn't valid is when you are in a vehicle and aren't able to look in that direction.

Now that is a handy tip. Will save alot of time jumping in and out of the command screen.

Still, it seems there isn't a good consensus on whether the move command generates the same point radius. It strikes me as something that should be in place, especially if you are trying to get your squad to circumnavigate a CP or silo for a flanking attack.

Anyone test this yet?

it's really dumb that you only get the squad points for flags/silos. points and a radius for move orders would keep squads together even more, and make the squad leader role even more tactical for those willing to take this extra step.

i've lead squads for over 75% of my 50 hours total playtime, i can tell you that on the whole, the only times the squad really moves together the way you want them to is when they have all been wiped out by a walker or some assult and are all spawning on you at the same time. even if you use the move arrows, which i do.

i would be quite happy if it was .5 pts for kills, revives, etc in the move waypoint radius.

The 1/2 points earned on a move command radius is a fantastic suggestion.

I've run out of field unlocks more than once, so I reckon the Squad bonus points for just attack and defend is fine as it is!

In my experience, if you get 3 people working well together, the upgrades turn up quite nicely and other players will come to join you. If they turn out to be half decent, you will get the upgrades even faster, if they turn out to be pony, boot 'em!
