When i go into a game most people are assault, followed by support/recon with 1-2 engineers

Suddenly 1 APC pwns everyone with the grenade launcher on top with its splash damage.

What is it about engineers that less people choose em

the engineers weapon is plain sucky. in 2142 your more likely to encounter infantry than armour, so playing a kit with a crappy smg isnt gonna help your kdr

Most people spawn Engineers only when they get killed by a vehicle.
but there are some dedicated engineers.

I play as a dedicated engineer, and sorry but I'd have to disagree with you Killer.

If you're playing 64 especially, but even in smaller maps you'll barely ever find a lone man trying to take a base without armour... you won't find me as an engineer in the mid-zones (where the most action is) purely due to the fact that I'd get wtfpwnd by recons and supports, but as a flag/silo taker, the engineer is one of the best classes to be.

And the weapons are great, I two hit most heavy armour - with the support of a commander or support foot soldier I can one hit the ****ers (Y).

I think its just the engineers lack of good anti infantry ability over range, its a teamwork heavy kit to be honest. You need buddies or to be very good/lucky. I admire anyone who can go engineer and come out on top.

vs Infantry you make a good point, as a matter of fact I normally opt for the trusty knife in close combat situations; I get more killing done. If any other class with an automatic sees you first unless you get a headshot you're done for, thus pull out the knife, flank their side and cut their face.

I'll go engy when I decide to sit in a tank all the whole round. Plus those motion mines just plain kick arse. I'll also go engy when first attacking the enemy titan, firstly because i'll use the defuser to clear enemy APMs and secondly to use the pillum against enemy sentry guns. The SMG is pretty good one on one, just crouch and let it rip. You wont beat an assault kit though unless they are crap, as for enemy support, one shot from the Pillum can clear a corridor.

When defending a silo, I like the EMP mine and motion mine combo. A tank will drive in over the EMP mine then the motion mines will move in for the kill. You'll find most tank users won't want to get out of their tank so it's an easy kill. They'll probably turn on active defense, but luckily active defense wont protect you from mines. :)

No problems with engineer here.

i pretty much only paly engy well for bf2 in 2142 the smg's are good but only if your good with them , the anti-tank rifle pwns but anti-air sucks so i tihnk it is due the amout of poor unlocks given to this class

ill admit most of the unlocks suck. i was surprised however how much i use the mine defuser, especially in titan takes care of all the rdx and apm no problem. no points for it though:mad:

All you engineer bashers are nuts: I play engineer mostly, and I have a blast. First up, the Pilum is a fantastic unlock, and is a definitely improvement on the starting AT weapon. Secondly, why do people say the SMG is crap? I win the majority of med range gun duels with that weapon. It's got a very small deviation, so it means, if you've a good aim (and I do) you get enough hits on the head region to kill the opponent long before he gets you. Third, there is a SQUAD element to this game, remember? If you're going to have an effective 3-4 man squad, you need an engineer, to repair damaged vehicles, lay/clear mines, and take out enemy vehicles - teamwork, people.

More people play recon and assault because I think they're better solo classes, and support because it's a statpadders wet dream. The engineer is the most squad reliant class, and in a game which is full of non-team players, it's not surprising that the engineer is rarer than it should be.

I play both Support and Engineer. I love playing Support, but using my Pilum is just fantastic. Nothing like firing a round into the rear of a tank and watching it blow on the first shot (or that odd Walker you got lucky running under and blowing up). :D

Engineer SMG is actually really nice. It fires very fast and the small deviation means you can "easily" get headshots, even while running and gunning.

One tip, don't use heavy armor when you need to close the distance fast. I usually only use heavy armor in titan defense or attacks or those maps with lots of buidlings. I use light armor 90% of the time im playing, and I actually do better without the heavy armor.

And maybe people would stop stealing my tank when I repair it, and maybe they would stand still for more than 10 seconds so I can finish repairing THEIR tank, and maybe support players will resupply and maybe assault players can heal me when I ask nicely. Everyone is in such a hurry all the time. Chill people! :D

Now if I just could get more kills as an engineer...
