EA Downloader Now EA Link [Archive]

Well it appears EA (http://www.ea.com/) has decided to change the name of their downloader program to EA Link now. Here's what is said of the new program:

EA Link is a secure yet simple application that lets you download your favorite EA PC games directly to your computer, saving you time and getting you in the game sooner. Once you have EA Link, you’ll get access to all the latest PC games and patches, along with other great exclusive content – all of which can be yours with just a few mouse-clicks. Download EA Link today and get connected to an expanded world of PC gaming.

Other than the name change, it appears to be the same as the EA Downloader (with a few new tweaks I assume). To grab the file though and to learn more about the new name, click here (http://www.ea.com/ealink/index.jsp).

After update EAdownloader with this new ****, I received "Invalid CDKEY" when I tried to connect to some server.

I tried then reinstall but not works and I need to download again BF2142 with this EALINK "crap something" because they totally remove my first BF2142 download with EADownloader. :mad:

Yeah one mistake after other.

This is conjecture right now because I haven't experienced it myself, but according to some users the following might occur:

1) CD Key error when trying to join a server
2) Reinstall in order to try and resolve the CD Key error
3) Finding out that EA Link install removed the EAD folder, meaning that:
4) Your game files are no longer on your computer, requireing you to:
5) Redownload the game, which takes about 1:30h on a basic cable connection, so I suggest you:
6) Backup your "cache" folder inside the EAD directory to avoid #5. However,
7) This might not work, as the files might not be compatible with EA Link.

It is EXTREMELY important to uninstall Gamespy Comrade if you are going to uninstall Battlefield 2142. If you do not, then when you reinstall the game, when it gets to the Gamespy Comrade, it will ask you if you want to uninstall. You can run into problems even if you don't uninstall during the game installation, and if you uninstall then you will not have the Comrade and you NEED it. It is safest to uninstall the Comrade before reinstallation to avoid further headache (and another uninstall/reinstall).

The people at EA need a slap, some things do go wrong due to the complexity of the code, but this is replacing one program with another. I can not believe EA are making us re-download this large file, even more if some people have a download limit, fortunately I don't but still this is just stupid and absolute crap planning.

Have a fix for the invalid CDKEY.............

Go to the support folder in your BF2142 folder in game, and look for a file called Battlefield 2142_code

Click and it should reenter you code.

No, some people are not having issues but a vast majority of the people posting about it are. I'm pretty confident that when I'm forced to upgrade I'll have this issue because that's just how things go for me =P

I hope it's fixed fast though becasue I have to have access to this game.

I had no issues with the new version. Went in and played a few rounds just recently.
In fact, it looks a lot better then before, and uses up less memory and cpu time on my system.

Jofaba, how's that Opteron doing for you in bf2142? I was thinking about getting one for myself, but I am quiet happy with my sandy 37. But can't get it prime stable at 3GHz. Also, it does not seem to handle bf2142 as well as I hoped it would.

Yah the footprint of of the EA Link is a lot smaller running in the backgroun; not that it mattered.

It has the option to 'Remove Temporary Files' but I cannot find where they're at; doesnt matter though since the game starts up and runs fine on Vista RC2.
I'll do a search for them or just remove the temporary files.
But nice tips by Jofaba on page 1 to fix problems.

Well done & thanks! This saved me a few hours of downloading plus reinstals.

NO thanks goes to the very inteligent (this is debatable :rolleyes:) ppl of EA and the lashed-up games/apps they keep rushing out... ffs :mad:

So, if you redownload the game, does this version have the patch allready in it?, becouse, theres no 2142 patch to download in the EA Link,

And will this change of Downloader to Link fix anything related to the conction problem, or is it just cosmetic?

running the Battlefield 2142_code.exe from the support folder doesn't work.

It does get you past the invalid key part, but then you randomly get kicked from servers by punkpuster with an error stating duplicate key in use

It installed fine for me, then when I went to play bf2142 my stats all started working and I got my missing ranks and badges. :D

Anyone else had a positive experience ??

Steam has SOOOO Many updates. While its good they update it ALOT. Thats a bad sign.... and still its not all that "Great" of a program.

I've also let the admins know that I'm linking to my blog, and there's nothing there other than these fixes and an intro to my site (which has no content).Been playing for a couple hours now, and the punkbuster fix for duplicate cd key seems to be working. That is, I haven't been kicked by pb yet. Thanks Jofaba.

Try the fixes at my blog before you freak out, they solve most issues.

I had the same invalid key issue...couldnt uninstall or reinstall the game...the setup or uninstall would just flash on the screen and quit. I had to go and delete the Electronic Arts folder, uninstall EA downlaoder...go into regedit and manually remove all "Battlefield 2142" registry entries...then install EA Link, redownload the game and then reinstall. If you dont remove the registry entries you will be screwed. Took me 4 hours to fix, redownload, and reinstall... whoo-hoo...what a joke.

Anybody have any good information as to why they made the change? It it more secure? Is it supposed to be less buggy?

Or was it simply as benign as 'we needed a change'.

It would just be nice to know if there was a reason behind creating all of these miserable problems for people...my brother had to completely re-download his copy after the switch. We only get a couple of nights a week if we're lucky to play together and we couldn't play last night.

I can only assume that because of the two cd key errors that the EA Link upgrade created that they are now working on the database and that's why people are having issues signing in. Hopefully someone who's experiencing this issue and finds a fix let's us all know. Unfortunately there's no advice I can give that ensures a fix because I'm not experiencing the issue.

Well, I tried all of Jofaba's suggestions, and nothing worked (Downloader version BTW). Then I had to Re-Download the game (after playing some BF2 with Talus, thanks to EA Link deleting everything).

Now I can't install the game 'cause EA Link can't connect and log me in! I was able to connect and start the install at lunch time, but it must have died while I was at work. Only 4 files are extracted.

Oh well. Wasn't playing tonight anyways. Gotta watch Lost and Jericho on Wednesday nights.

I hate EA link I cant even get connected and when I do it wont take my username and password (which is right, they sent me the correct name and password!!!) Still doesnt work. If something isnt broke then they shouldnt fix it!!!

Yeah I'm having the same problem, I uninstalled, installed the new (today's updated version) version of ea link, and now it won't even get to the login part, it says it can't connect to the server, but there's nothing wrong with my connection.

When I redownload 2142 the other day after a format I backed up my download cache before it was expanded/decrypted. I just copied it back in the cache dir for EA Link. Closed EA link and logged in. It recognized the cache and I started to reinstall the game and then generic decryption error came up. EA Link recommended deleting temporary files. I pressed ok and the download que started from the beginning. The time stamp on the 3k eam file has changed to todays date but the 2gig 2142 file is still there with the originl time stamp from a few days. It looks like EA link is overwriting the cache file byte by byte. :yay:

Now I have EALink it does bot even show any BF2142 stuff, I bought 2142 retail and registered it but not even the 1.01 patch shows in EALink even though I downloaded it with EAD.

Checked my games not there but when I go to Edit account BF2142 shows as I own and have registered the game?

Great!! Now i've got it redownloaded and reinstalled (my time and bandwith used up) it kicks me to desk top when it looses connection...
how S***!! they can't even get two of there OWN aps/games to work in sync

I completed this fix for my EA downloaded version and it worked fine. Just add the x9392 in front of the code in the registry setting. Select the BF2142 section instead of the BF2 as discussed below. I got this from another post but can't locate it today so I just pasted in this one from a BF2 fix. Same issue.

Backup your registry before making the change in case it hoses your system.

# Click Start.
# Go to Run.
# Type regedit and hit OK button.
# Click on plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
# Click on plus sign next to SOFTWARE.
# Double click on Electronic Arts folder.
# Double click on EA Games folder.
# Double click on Battlefield 2 folder. (or Battlefield 2142)
# Double click on ergc folder.
# Data displayed will probably have x9392 only. (for EA downloader version, you should see your code without the x9392)
# Right click on it and select Modify.
# Type in x9392 and then your Battlefield 2 CD key.
note: don’t include hyphens. (for EA downloader in 2142 your code should be there just insert the x9392 in front of the code)

Exit the regedit and restart your BF 2142 program. Worked for me.

I hear ya there. I purchased 2142 thru EALink on Friday. Dowloaded it. Installed it and it gave me a bunch of MD5 Errors. I tried running the game anyways and it seemed to work except there was nothing in the server list. So I tried uninstalling everything 2142 , even in the registry, downloading it again and re-installing it again. Couldn't get it to install clean. Now, I can't try installing it again because it says I can only install 5 times per week to avoid piracy.

I already sent an email to EA asking for the discs or my money back. I have a feeling I will never get a response. I am going to try and call them today.

I think they just caused the opposite of the desired effect of having removed a costly distribution channel through DVDs. Eveyone after these shameful debacles concerning the launch dates in different countries, errors with CD-keys and all the general FUs will get a DVD.
