Simply edit your profile's general.con file and edit the following lines:
GeneralSettings.setKillMessagesFilter 1
GeneralSettings.setRadioMessagesFilter 1
GeneralSettings.setChatMessagesFilter 1
Where:
GeneralSettings.setKillMessagesFilter #
1 shows all kill messages
2 shows only kill messages from your squad
3 hides them all.
GeneralSettings.setRadioMessagesFilter #
1 shows all radio messages
3 shows no radio messages
GeneralSettings.setChatMessagesFilter #
2 turns off enemy chat
3 turns off all chat
This might need a little retuning so if you have any info, please let me know.

Good to know. Do you know if there is a way to turn off the "Spotted" radio and text messages?

Might rename the map where these sounds are located?
Don't know if it works though.

Sweet, thanks Talus. This is the General.con in your Documents/Battlefield2142/Profiles/0001 right?

Does cutting out messages improve performance at all?

I prevents annoyance and helps you keep an eye on your own squad better (using the squad only options), which is helpful in a tight game.

My radio is still spamming me with messages and I changed the number to 3. I keep getting enemy spotted, need ammo etc etc. What am I doing wrong? I went into the profiles and the 001 folder and the con file listed and it changed ok. When I reopened it, it showed the number 3 like it should, I am baffled by what I am doing wrong.

The radio will still get spammed :(
Unfortunately, there is no way to turn those audio clips off without getting kicked by punkbuster.
We have all been looking for a way to do this since BF2 ;)

So is this setting removing text fields that mimic what is being said on the radio? I never paid attention to that. If so, I guess it helps getting rid of some of the text clutter. BTW........Enemy spotted, Enemy Walker spotted, Enemy Walker spotted, Medic, Enemy Tank spotted, Need supplies, Need supplies, need supplies, Enemy tank spotted, need supplies. Ad infinitum.
