View Full Version : SAAW = Awesome (When it works :P)
Although the SAAW has its bugs, once fixed this weapon will very Deadly. I tried incorperating it into a Squad with some clan mates. And i can tell you now it comes in handy alot. The amount of gunships i knocked out that would have wiped out my whole squad was greatly satisfying. This weapon is not for farming points, it's a team based weapon.
Just wanted to express how great it is.

Yea, ive noticed it can be really great defending the titan. With motion mines, people are forced to use apcs (and if you have some decent gunners on the titan, thats not an option either) However as a gunship pilot, i gotta say, they are annoying as hell, because none of them hit you, but you will have a lock on from none of the AA stations....

The thing is okay...but really the Pilum is just too rediculous not to use IMO.

Pilum IS great, and 95% of the time it gets the job done as well if not better than the other AT weapons. But that 5% where you just can't seem to shake that pesky Gunship, or theres a transport hoverpooping pod soldier from on high.....those are the times when its nice to have the SAAW at your disposal.
Once (hopefully) they fix the Transport non-lock bug, it will be even more useful.

With that hovering transport you still have like 50% chance of not locking with SAAW. Gunships are not really threat to titan defence and those ones shooting titan lower guns are usually out of sight so you can't shoot them with SAAW anyway.
Maybe stock rocket lauchers would be ideal to titan defence - better accuracy to transports and gunships due guidance than with pilum and you are still able to destroy APC's near titan.

It's good when it works but a shame that most of the time it simply doesn't :P
I wish it could use all four of the weapon's barrels in stead of just two or it would reload faster for those pesky airbusses

You just gave me an interesting idea concerning those who always take the gunship at game start to shoot out turrets :)
I bet they are not expecting someone to stand under the Titan with a SAAW!

I find they really don't expect someone to actually be in the AA turret under the titan at the start of the game either, really pisses them off.
Even better - if someone uses the AA gun to kill the turrets, pod down right at the start and lay a claymore on the back of the gun, and blow the cheeky git up as soon as he starts firing

When you snipe with a tank the best weapon you could ever hold in your hands is that gnarly SAAW. your sitting there chillin outside a base shooting at the mechs or tanks inside it. All the sudden you get a chopper making swoops at you since your a non moving target. pop up the shields then jump out and aim at the choppa. You can always get a kill with the saaw if they fly up above the map and not out of lock range. So most of the time its an easy kill, and if you dont get the kill they should get the message not to **** with your tank. If they are stupid enough to make another pass, you get another shot at taking them out.
The only time I ever get taken out is when the designated chopper pilot in my clan makes his third pass on my tank. He's gotten pretty good at avoiding the SAAW lock. Even then, for every time he kills me, I have killed him at least once, if not twice (more points if he has a gunner too)

The only problem is when you change to the gunner position or get out of the tank after activating the active defence, even though the green dome is still visible, it doesn't actually stop any rockets.

Thats why you stay in the tank during the missile attack and get out when the gunship starts to fly away. with the SAAW theres no point in shooting at a chopper when its coming directly at you, the only time the saaw works is when the missiles have a chance to chase the chopper, thus shooting it when it flies away from you is 100% better.

I love the SAAW.
Just wished there weren't so many bugs with it :(

It seems game developers always have problems with getting surface to air missiles to work properly.

Yeah, it's actually quite a decent and even fun weapon to use, although it definitely has limitations (not good against ground targets, although I DID manage to take out a tank with it). The only real problem is that sometimes it won't lock on to transports, just like other AA weapons in the game. It's flat out CRUEL to gunships though :):):)

The transport lockon bug is only on titian mode. The maps that are best with the SAAW are those conquest maps with two gunships, Taiba, Suez to name two.

No it's not. It is bugged in both game modes.
Btw, you can easily shoot slow hovering gunships with pilum and it is probably faster too.

They also need to make using a SAAW count as Air Defense.
I once spent an entire round of Suez Titan with the SAAW, sitting on one of those big pillars in the middle of the map. Had our commander keep me supplied, and just shot at gunships and transports. I ended the round with 17 SAAW kills. I noticed that most of the time when it doesn't lock on to a transport ship, it will still follow them. Definitely best when they're flying away from you, unless it's a transport coming in super slow.
I still think it kinda sucks though. I had this gunship buzzing around, and it took 16 shots before I finally killed him. After 30 some minutes and 17 kills, it netted me no AA badges or pins or ribbons. Was quite disappointed.
