View Full Version : Friendly fire off?

Joined a server tonight where FF was supposed to be off, but kept hurting teammates (and myself) with RDX. Is there an explanation for this? Explosives FF separate from infantry FF? If so I wonder if there is a way to figure out which servers have it ALL off... because I know on some even my own RDX can't hurt me.

There are 5 different FF options.
FF for soldiers, FF for vehicles, FF splash damage for soldiers, FF splash damage for vehicles and FF for mines/claymores.
With the exception of FF for mines/claymores, the other 4 are adjustable between 0-100%.

Is there a way to check what the options are set at? I only see "FF ON" or "FF OFF" listed in the server data from the in game browser, or from Q-tracker which I just downloaded.

Not that I know about.

the FF on/off is in regards if splash damage is on or off. Generally if it's FF on it means you can't trigger friendly claymore but can be killed in the blast if an enemy triggers it and on FF off friendly still can't trigger friendly claymores but also don't get hurt from the blast.
I personally stay away from FF off servers since they are a claymore/rdx farm.

That is very usful info, i've been searching for those answers for a while, but do you think you could give us some more detail?

I guess I should elaborate further then.
The FF for mines/claymores only sets whether or not friendly soldiers will set them off or not. The splash damage setting for friendly soldiers still governs the damage that mines or claymores would inflict.
For example, you could set a server to have all friendlies set off all mines and claymores but at the same time have the the damage and splash damage set to 0 to prevent TK's. I've never done this but theoretically it should work.
Anyway, my point is that the FF setting for mines/claymores is setting whether friendlies or not can trigger them, not the damage they cause.

my worst fear, crawling past a claymore, just so my teammate can run past me(score 2 for the recon guy).
/on topic. I wish bfhq would have more detail about servers before you join, it would make finding the right one for you easier.

I don't understand how FF off + Titan mode made sense in anyone's head at Dice.
Irresistable

I just played on a FF for APM's server. I did not know you could set this.
It is cool in theory.
It sucks when you are on Team Noob and they are too stupid to stop running over them even though you keep putting them in the same exact obvious spot and spamming "DON"T RUN OVER THE APMS!!!!".

The BF2 ROE stated that EA preferred if servers turned FF on, but they didn't anticipate the stupidity of the public, so a patch kept it off by default on ranked servers. The ROE applies the same to 2142 servers and EA have made it clear that they prefer it to be on, but do not enforce it as a rule.
Then, server owners took it a step further and turned off every FF aspect to make them a true noob farm (but popular ones).
Personally, I believe APMs should be set off by friendlies, but unfortunately, the motion mine detection seems buggy and setting the trigger on seems to give inconsistent behaviour. Add to that the fact that the skull indicators don't consistently show up over friendly mines and you are forced to turn the trigger off to preserve sanity.
However, turning off damage completely just promotoes ridiculous spamming and makes the game unenjoyable for me when people start using RDX as grenades in a group of friendlies. Titan becomes an unplayable bore with FF completely off in my opinion.

I agree. If the broken sentry guns and the Frag spamming aren't enough, I think it's completely rediculous that the only way to succesfully assualt a Titan is too have a number of people with the Defib hiding somewhere to revive the APM casualties, while avoiding the peridoc RDX bomber who takes out the entire Titan assault before he bunny hops away - all without any fear of friendly kills.

You need to make some favourite servers then check their status on game-monitor.com to see what the cvars are set to for FF. I prefer FF on and APM FF off, which is what my server is set to. I want enemies and enemies only to set off and be killed by APMs. This is a game and not real life.
If you intend on having FF turn on for APMs thenI would be prepared to have to deal with a lot of swearing, punishing and auto banning from too many TKs. A very high maintenance server.

I'm all for FF off full stop. No team damage from any of your weapons. Ok, it's not as realistic (as if such a word could be used for the BF series), but anything to save me from TK punishing pricks that think that chasing you 'nade is fun, that walking in front of you MG whilst shooting away is fun, that not clearing the core when someone's just loaded it with RDX is fun (sod it, just blow the core anyway, if you wait for everyone to move to a safe distance, you'll be dead before you can set it off) etc.. etc..
Y'know what. The occasional idiotic teamkiller was less frustrating than the punish system. I mean, the punish system still doesn't stop people TK'ing you does it? You either need an admin there at all times to kick the TK'er or an auto kick which will boot you after 4 idiots step on your mines etc...
LOL, it does have it's disadvantages though (FF off). I was defending a titan corridor with the Ganz (a good tool for the job, maybe that's what it's for). I had the perfect angle to slaughter anyone coming down the corridor, until Mr Noob just gets in my way with his pea shooter; he couldn't understand why I kept shooting when there were no targets - suppressing fire mate, it makes them scared to come round the corner...
Anyway, FF off just makes the game less frustrating, especially on a well moderated server (Asbo clan, you're admins are as great as they are severe).

This is one of the most annoying settings yet(i have seen it many times, normally on servers will all FF off but friends setting clays off).
But as far as i can tell i've never been on a full FF(on) server including ones where you can TK with claymor splash, that friends could set off friendly clays and die, it wouldnt be practical would it? :)
What i wish is that they made a setting so that when all FF settings are set to: ZERO OR OFF but if you drop rdx, it can hurt you and ONLY you.
Well, i come from and alienswarm background background (http://www.blackcatgames.com/swarm/info) and i think FF should be on, but with RDX(if FF is off) you should be able to hurt only yourself, oh i already said that :D
